The Avenue Inn & Spa

My husband and I have been visiting this hotel since about 2010 and we’ve always liked it, even before all of the remodeling! We love all of the amenities it offers. That being said, however, the air conditioning in our room was not working correctly during our most recent visit and it felt like a sauna in there. We finally realized it before we went to bed and didn’t report it because we thought it could take hours to fix, or worse, they would have us change rooms. We slept with the balcony door open all night and so it was tolerable. The next morning when we did report it we got, «You should have told us last night,» and a promise from the middle aged woman who has worked there for years that someone would be right up to fix it. Well, no one came before we checked out at 10:40a.
When my husband and I got home we realized we had left something in our room (we obviously weren’t thinking clearly because we were so hot). Anyway, my husband called and reported it and the person who took his call said they would look and call us back. Well, 2 hours went by and we hadn’t heard from anyone so I called again. The same middle aged woman I had spoken to while we were there answered my call and immediately said that they were waiting for us to call them back. This, after my husband and I both heard the other woman say they would give us a call. Well, it turns out that our item was found and they are going to send it to us by UPS (on our dime, of course).
I still love the Avenue but I have to agree with Adrienne (below) that the staff (at least that middle aged woman) isn’t always pleasant to work with. But, other than her, we still like it the best of any place we’ve stayed in Rehoboth.

Whenever we come to Rehoboth there’s never a question about where we will stay. The Avenue is by far the best hotel at the beach. It’s one block from the beach and walking distance to everything on the boardwalk. They have a shuttle to the beach (you can also take beach chairs and towels) with a wonderful driver named Lew who plays oldies as he drives you. The hotel is clean and has great décor. They include breakfast every morning which is pretty decent. They have hot items like eggs and sausage with the other traditional continental breakfast items. They also have a free wine and cheese hour and fresh baked cookies at 8pm at the front desk. Can’t wait to come back!

This is a great hotel with brand new, well appointed rooms. We had booked a weekend at the beach and were disappointed when the weather did not cooperate. Not a problem: the avenue inn has an indoor pool, an outdoor hot tub, wine w/​cheese at 5 and hot chocolate chip cookies at 8. It’s perfectly located to walk just about anywhere, again, if the weather cooperates! And the service! Need an umbrella? They’ve got you covered! Forget your toothbrush, say no more! Every staff member was extremely polite. They even surprised us with champagne and cupcakes because we were celebrating our anniversary.
My only thoughts that might have improved upon a great visit are pretty minor so I didn’t knock off a star: one of the elevators has a pretty loud ding when it opens and you can hear it in your room at night, even a distance down the hall with the cool farm door closed. We had polite neighbors, but the shared wall between us was thin enough to hear entire conversations in certain moments. The indoor pool needed a little tlc, seemed a bit dirty and the stairs were showing wear. Finally, the renovations are beautiful! We were just a bit puzzled there was not a place near the sink to hang a hand towel after use, had to use the towel rack in the shower. Overall, would definitely return, it was a lovely visit and the staff was superb!

We had a wonderful time here! It’s a very cozy hotel that makes you feel like you’re right at home at someone’s beach house. All the décor is beach themed and very well coordinated. The staff is always so helpful weather it is offering you an umbrella for the rain or making sure your drink is topped off before the end of the free hour of cheese and wine.
While you’re here you must check out the lounge. Matthew does a wonderful job making fresh drinks. You can’t leave this place without having an orange crush it’s possibly one of the best mix drink I’ve had!
They offer complementary breakfast which offers a variety of options like fresh fruit, eggs, French toast muffins and more.
Based on our experience I can see why they are able to expand looks like the edition will be ready later in 2016.

You really shouldn’t tell people at 9:15 pm that you are serving food until 11, we got there at 9:30 and the bartender said they stopped serving food at 9. Plenty of other places to eat and drink!!!

Just completed another wonderful stay. Staff was very accommodating. Had a suite booked to allow for more room due to our daughter’s wheelchair. There is construction going on at the hotel and several days prior to check in we received a call that the original room may not be best, as there was construction occurring in the hallway near that suite, with the offer to provide us instead with two side by side rooms in an area not impacted by the construction with no additional charge. Proactive customer service at its best. Nice property being made even nicer with great staff!

We visit the Delaware shore a few times a year (we are looking to purchase a home) and we always stay at the Avenue Inn. The Inn is located one short block from the boardwalk and in the heart of the shops, restaurants, nightlife of Rehoboth Beach. The rooms are large, comfortable and clean! Comfy beds too. Breafast is complimentary and home-​made; 24 – 7 coffee and tea; fresh-​baked toll house cookies at 8pm. The entire staff is outstanding. it’s our home away from home! We will continue to stay at The Avenue anytime we are in need of beach vacation or stay-​cation!

Excellent hotel, right in the heart of Rehoboth. The staff is extremely nice, food is outstanding, the hotel is exceptionally clean and the bar is awesome. Trust me when I say this, the price of this hotel is worth it for the amount of amenities. The free breakfast is great too. Did I mention they have the coolest indoor heated metal pool as well? Trust me you have to see it to believe it! So make a reservation today, you won’t be disappointed!

We visit the Avenue almost every year. we absolutely love it there it was great before the renovations and it even better now. We wouldnt stay anywhere else. its very clean smells nice and everyone there is so nice, not to mention the wine and cheese in the lobby in the evening!!!

Great place we came down without reservations and they did an amazing job acommodating us… super room with a balcony. Front desk staff super… every thing they do for you makes your stay super… the wine and cheese afternoon… the great coffee and tea 24/7…neat items at the included buffet breakfast… rooftop pool and whirlpool plus steam room and sauna. the buggy transport to the beach… we will be back!

We had never been to the Delaware shore and didn’t know what to expect, but trusted the glowing reviews of Avenue Inn.
First of all, Rehoboth Beach can be kind of crazy in August (in a good way). Avenue Inn is right in the thick of it– restaurants, bars, shops, more restaurants…
From check-​in on Tuesday to check-​out Saturday, we had nothing but positive experiences with the staff and hotel property. Want a beach chair? Just take one. Towel? Just take one. Coffee was always on in the lobby and warm chocolate chip cookies where there in the evenings.
There’s a really friendly guy shuttling guests a block-​and-​a-​half to the beach in a big golf cart. We chose to walk because it’s really not very far and it’s fun to watch the people on the way.
We never got off Pacific Time so we slept late, forcing the housekeeping staff to tidy up the room at odd hours. They were great.
Didn’t get much of a chance to try the complimentary breakfast (see above), but it’s offered and appreciated.
They warned us several times about construction underway to expand the property. Really, it was no big deal.
I can’t remember being so impressed with a hotel. Well done, folks.

I arrived in Dewey on Sunday and needed some pampering to start off my vacation. I was able to get in on Sunday for a pedicure & it was the best pedi ever! Staff was wonderful & very accommodating. Little pricey but worth every penny!

The lobby of this place was beautifully done, but unfortunately the guest rooms don’t match. I could have been in a completely different hotel when I saw my room. It was small and outdated. Once the rooms are renovated to match the lobby, this will be a great hotel.

Beautiful hotel in a great location. It really set the mood for a relaxing beach week.
Extras really made this a great place to stay– nice hot breakfast everyday, fresh coffee available 24/​7, shuttle with Mr. Lew to the beach, beach chairs, wine and cheese every evening, and hot cookies every night. You definitely felt pampered!
The rooms are generally quiet. I know there was a baby staying in the room next to us, but we never heard a peep (maybe just a quiet baby?). The Avenue Inn is in the middle of a building addition and we did hear some construction noise during the day because our room was near the building site, but it wasn’t bothersome.
The only sour spot on our trip (and the reason for a 4 star review vs. a 5 star review) was a few interactions with specific staff. I get it. You have worked the same job for many years, answered the same questions over and over, dealt with the same nagging tourists. Everyone around you is on vacation and you are not. But please, please, don’t take it out on us. We are happy and excited to be at your hotel and we WANT to have a good time.
I had great, positive interactions with the young staff members, with the housekeeping staff, with Mr. Lew. But some of the other employees (desk staff, breakfast staff) seemed so annoyed and angry to be at work. I also don’t appreciate a list of all the places my kids aren’t allowed to go immediately upon check-​in. They are 2 and 4. They will not be anywhere unsupervised, don’t worry.
Would love to return, will definitely consider for next year.

My family and I have been visiting this resort for years. We would never think of staying anywhere else in Rehoboth Beach! The amenities abound, complimentary breakfast, beach towels, beach chairs, buggy service to and from the beach (Lew is fabulous!), awesome indoor pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna, and my favorite-​the two room suite (family of five needs a pocket door at least :) Also there is complimentary happy hour from 5 – 6 (red & white wine, cheese & crackers… what a perk!) and warm chocolate chip cookies at 8p for the kids!
The customer service is equally as fabulous as the amenities, which nowadays is a diamond in the rough!
We also always have excellent massages in the Avenue Spa!

My friends and I stayed here for 2 nights for a girls weekend (it was my bachelorette party, but we wanted a little more upscale/​less party scene place) and the Avenue Inn was PERFECT. The rooms and all common areas are gorgeous. We loved having the mini fridge for our waters and food. I though the breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts over. I loved the mini egg casseroles in muffin tins. They also provided baked goods, yogurt, cereal, etc. The staff including the cleaning people and shuttle drivers were all extremely nice. We stayed on the 3^rd floor in rooms facing the beach. The views were slightly obstructed, but we could see the water from our balcony.
The Avenue Inn is the perfect location. You are steps from the Avenue (main shopping street off of the Boadwalk) and there is a door that even deposits you between shops. You are a very short walk (or shuttle ride) to the beach. We didn’t have perfect weather while we were there, but we were able to take advantage of the hot tub and indoor pool. Although our rooms were directly across from the pool area, the soundproofing is excellent. You couldn’t hear anything in our rooms when guests were using it (which was frequently during our stay since the weather wasn’t cooperating). We stayed in the Queen Rooms with the Pull Out Couch, and they were very spacious for 5 girls in each room. I would definitely recommend the Avenue Inn for any stay in Rehoboth!

If you book in any room with Avenue II in the description, you are not staying at The Avenue Inn. You are in an ‘annex’ location that is in fact a motel, not hotel/​inn.
I had no obvious indication that we weren’t actually staying at The Avenue (the website I visited and the number I called) but instead at a second rate motel experience down the street called Avenue II.
Upon questioning the front desk after checking in, I was told to reference my confirmation e-​mail (because nothing says good communication strategy like referencing the fine print of a confirmation email) for these details that were in no way part of my booking experience. We were to have rooms (I booked three of them) with private balconies at a hotel experience, NOT a motel experience.
Not being satisfied with the confirmation e-​mail solution, I asked to speak with a manager on duty. Guess what? No manager on duty, it was 3:30pm on a Friday.
Never again at this deceptive ‘hotel’.
UPDATE: Apparently there is no need for me to speak with management, the owner already made their position clear on another travel website. Side note to my experience, I was never informed of the room being in an annex location.:

I have no patience for this type of review. We have been in the business long enough to know how to market our properties. We intentionally never oversell the look of a building or a hotel room. All this will cause is a disappointed guest and we are well aware of this fact. There are muItiple pictures of what the Avenue II looks like on our web site, it is the guest responsibility to review them before booking. I say over and over in my reviews how our goal is to make a first stay with us the first of many to come. We do not have a tremendous number of repeat guest because we «dupe» them. You are mistaken in your comparison of room costs and room types. I hope you will find another hotel that will better suit you the next time you are in Rehoboth and I will be happy it will not be with us as I do not appreciate being trashed because of lack of preparation on your part.

An absolutely beautiful hotel, let me emphasize the décor and design was impeccable. HOWEVER, the management and customer service was below par and absolutely offensive. The group of people that were all paying clients at the hotel were asked to prove our status as guests while at breakfast. NO other guests attending the complimentary breakfast were asked for identification, only my group of people were targeted.

A Wonderful Weekend!
My wife and I needed a winter weekend getaway to Rehoboth Beach and decided to try the Avenue Inn. The AI far exceeded our expectations from check-​in to check-​out and will be our «GoTo» lodging during the off-​season.
The room was spotlessly clean, roomy, and had a refrigerator and microwave oven. The soaps and shampoos were not your typical «hotel» brand offerings, but were from a well know/​quality provider.
The friendliness of the staff was spot on the whole trip and evident through the customer first approach. One example of the great customer service; I asked at the front desk for a towel for the hot tub and the lady responded by asking if I would also like a spa robe to wear because it may be more convenient!
The amenities include complementary hot breakfast buffet, wine & cheese each evening, and fresh baked cookies. The lounge/​bar area is comfortable and the bartender was very friendly and willing to make off menu items to match our cravings.
The WIFI was impressive. I’ve never stayed at a hotel that had this strong and consistent of a signal in the rooms as is offered here.
In addition to the items mentioned above, the one thing that set the AI above was the large amount of social/​relaxing space around the lobby. In addition to the large sitting room in the main lobby, a separate room with a fireplace, couches, and tables enabled us to relax, play games, and just enjoy ourselves outside the confines of our room.
I highly recommend the Avenue Inn and we are looking forward to our next visit!

Hannah, bartender extraordinaire and (how she managed I don’t know) serving the bar patrons and the table patrons at the same time. She had a smile on her face and makes fantastic cocktails.
took a skip to the WC and loved the lobby. Asked about prices and wow…$ 109 during the week and at 8 pm chocolate chip cookies came out. My little appetizer before dinner and I wasn’t even staying there.
Very hospitable front desk staff and will definitely look into staying here on the next trip to the Beach.
