Handyman On Call LLC

We had a number of repairs done in July of 2015 and these guys did a great job! The wood around the back sliding glass door was staring to rot and needed replacing, so I contracted with Handyman to do this work. I also had them replace two doors in the basement which they did in a mater of just one hour. I see nothing wrong with the work. They did a great job!

One of their drivers was driving extremely aggressive during rush hour traffic through Columbia almost causing multiple accidents. The driver ended up rear ending me and then attempted to flee. Thankfully, police were nearby and did end up pulling him over. The driver had no care for me or my passenger after hitting my car. He ended up getting arrested for driving without a license. If this company doesn’t know that one of their drivers has a doesn’t have a license (or doesn’t care), I wonder what else is on employee’s criminal records that they don’t know/​care about. If you use this company, remember to ask yourself: WHO ARE YOU LETTING INTO YOUR HOME?

I called the company because one of their drivers license number 47V 420 was driving recklessly while we were traveling on the same road. He almost caused two accidents. My husband drivers a work van also, so I am always courteous to guys that have to drive work vans however he was putting everyone in danger. The first woman I spoke with was wonderful. However she was only a secretary. Who called me back which I can assume was a manager did not speak clear English, nor a number to reach her back. When I called the main number again operator L2 was rude and unprofessional. I have not used them for any work and I NEVER would if this is how they represent their company.

I had a semi-​bad experience. The estimator showed up when he said he would. Great. As he should. My request was odd. My washer sets on a pedestal, but it got bent out of shape when I moved and the washer didn’t set correctly so they had to bolt it down… anyway. They did that. Great. However, they turned off my furnace and didn’t turn it back on. I’m a young home owner and I didn’t know what was going on when my heat didn’t kick on. I had to pay $ 100 for another company to simply flip a switch.

I called for an appointment to get an estimate and they were to my house the next day. I was told I would get an email with the written estimate. It’s been over a week now and no email or phone call yet.

We needed our front steps and walk to be re-​done, the soffit on our front gutter to be replaced, and the roof of our front porch repaired. Based on Unilocal reviews, I first called Jim Brown Custom Contracting and though he was very nice, he doesn’t service my area. I then called Mr. Handyman out of Owings Mills who also said they don’t service Baltimore City but they suggested I call Handyman on Call.
I scheduled a time for an estimator at Handyman on Call to come out and they called me the day before to say he would be running late. The original appt window was from 930 – 10:30am and he was going to be coming between 10 – 11 now so I had to reschedule. I thought it was weird that they would know a day in advance that the estimator was running behind on his schedule…
The re-​scheduled appt was to be between 8am and 9am and I was told it was the first appt of the day. At 9:20 the estimator called to say he would be 10 more minutes. I asked how he could be late for the first appt and he said there was traffic. I believe that there was traffic, but if it’s the first appt and you do this for a living, you’d think he would have had the sense to leave his house early enough to get to my house within the 1 hour window. To me, being late twice when I’m trying to hire you to provide a service means that you don’t want/​need the work, and I can’t trust that you’ll get the work done on time or ever show up on time, either.
While they were friendly enough and the estimator offered to reschedule, I told him that I didn’t want to work with them anymore and that I’d be seeking out another company. This company made me an hour late for work, which means that they just cost me $ 40 due to their total disrespect for my time.
It’s too bad that I can’t work with Handyman on Call since it appears that there are not a lot of options within the city. I guess this is how they can afford to be subpar?

So I needed some handyman work done, and one day i saw the «Handyman on
Call» truck driving around. I set up an appointment for Monday. Monday came, Monday went. Noone showed up with no notice. Then I get a call from them a few days later saying that the estimator was out sick. So I called back to set up another appointment, only thing is the woman on
the phone was rude to me. She feigned being someone else, interrupted me as I was speaking and in general acted like she didn’t give a &$@&###. So I decided this is not the company for me if there are already two red flags even before the appointment itself.

I am a single woman who just bought her first place and was looking for a company to do some small jobs around the house. The gentlemen that did the estimate made me completely uncomfortable, he came off as very aggressive and just gave me a general sense of unease. Against my better judgement I went with this company to complete the two jobs because the price was right.
The first technician arrived in the last 10 minutes of the 4-​hour window and was unable to clean my duct system because I have an atypical AC intake. He opened the machine and told me «Look how dirty it is, that’s what needs to be cleaned.» Closed the unit. The company demanded full payment for an incomplete job, basically I paid $ 200 for him to blow some air on my vents.
The second technician/​electrician was an hour late and told me that he would need to remove a large amount of my ceiling to complete the job which was the exact opposite of what the man who gave me the estimate said. Another job incomplete.
I called the company to complain and ask for a partial refund. After much back and forth, they agreed to refund me $ 50, which was fine with me. But when the check arrived it was only for $ 25… they said that because I used a mailer coupon they had already given me a discount. I don’t think I should be punished and be refused a refund for being a savvy consumer. They have been very difficult to work with and I do not recommend them.
