Fairly Grounded Coffee and Tea

This was my second trip to this coffee shop and I will not be going back and here are the reasons.
1. It shouldn’t take five minutes to make an iced Americano when no one else is in line and the place has less than a total of five customers.
2. The espresso tastes like overly roasted BBQ sauce. Terrible, and can not be masked by copious amounts of sugar and/​or creamer.
3. The simple syrup was out and I asked for more, the girl behind the counter just shrugged and said, «Oops, we’re all out». Then didn’t offer to make more. I guess making simple syrup isn’t in her job description.
4. The first time I went in there, the employees were having a staff meeting (in the middle of the day, mind you) and I felt like I was invading someone’s living room.

Apparantly, this location is about to close, so that the owners can concentrate on their newer location on S. Virginia.
Nonetheless, they turn out a pretty good product. Hope to visit the new location soon.

They do pour overs! Was happy to find a list of beans to select from for a single-​cup pour over. Enjoyed looking at the art work on display throughout the shop. This will be my #1 coffee spot on future Reno trips.

Love this place, little seahorses! And the Hto cocoa is soo good and they always put this adorable little leaf cream thingy on top. And, I LOVE shopping for such unique things while waiting for my coffee

What a gem! This place is on par with fancy coffee shops in the bay area!
I never noticed how miserable a town Reno was until my most recent trip. I’m from Stockton and I went to school in the east bay so I know what ghetto looks like. :D What a breath of fresh air to find Fairly Grounded!
I had a giant cup of hot tea and the cashier was EXCITED to explain their selection. (Her eyes lit up and went from friendly to super-​enthusiastic.) My husband had a pour-​over which he enjoyed very much.
I’m withholding a star because Barefoot’s Voodoo owns that special place in my heart. But if they’d add a couple of seahorses to their fish tank… :)

Since living in LA I haven’t really found a place I’m crazy about as far as a favorite coffee shop. Just back to Reno for a weekend and my best friend took me here. Super cute and cozy, delicious coffee, friendly barista. If I was still a local I would definitely be a regular.

I was given a Groupon from a friend for this place so I decided to try it yesterday for the first time. The coffee, while it tasted great, was lukewarm and in only 5 minutes was disgustingly cold. If you want a hot coffee… I definitely would not suggest this place. Another reviewer mentioned that they found out that it’s because they don’t want anyone getting hurt from hot coffee. If that’s the case, why not just serve it in a cup with a lid. I certainly wouldn’t have cared. I just wanted hot coffee.
The atmosphere is open and roomy. If you like that kind of thing then you’ll enjoy it here. Unfortunately I don’t like feeling like a fish in a fish bowl where everyone can walk past the huge storefront, floor to ceiling picture windows and look in at me whilst I do my work or eat lunch.
The music playing was new age, not my cuppa but then you tend to find that kind of music in a lot of coffeeshops these days. I blocked it out and it was easy enough to do.
The gal who was working there was very friendly and informative and had some great suggestions as far as lunch went. Never having been there it all looked good and I had no idea what to get. I ended up getting a panini and it was quite delicious… although I don’t think I’d get it toasted next time.
The fish aquariums, from what I could see, were completely empty. There were no fish in them anywhere. Why bother with a fish tank if there are no fish to enjoy watching swimming around. If you want tiny baby fish then at least throw in a few adults to balace the whole thing out!
Unlike a previous reviewer, I did not find that there were enough outlets. I prefer sitting at a table to do work, not in a cushy chair. Outlets need to be under at least some of the tables for those of us who have to spread out to do work.
All in all, the coffee tasted great but was not hot and the food is tasty. I didn’t care for the large openness of the room, though, and felt cold and isolated because of the vastness. I will stick with Bibo’s or Dreamers or even Starbucks. I doubt that I will return back to either location for Fairly Grounded Coffee & Tea.

This place is pretty great. Almost any kind of coffee you want, fresh brewed while you wait. Tons of seating that is cozy and comfortable because you can choose to sit at a table on a cushioned chair or in a big cushy armchair and lay back. The music is a bit new agey, but it is the kind you don’t focus on, if anything it probably provides a more uplifting experience. The fish tanks are nice, as are the big picture windows in the front of the shop. The only downside was no quiche today — I was really looking foward to it after reading the reviews. I did get a banana nut muffin and they heated it for me! I will certainly be able to study here for long periods of time — generally I go to the UNR library which is not as quiet as you would think. I can focus better here. I will be back.

Great espresso! I found Fairly Grounded to press for the same style of coffee & espresso that Vivace’s in Seattle has. (although, a bit too «new age» of a scene for me… Plus, there was a guitar instructor giving lessons to pupils in the shop) Not the greatest setting to study, I’ll get mine to go in the future!

I drink coffee not fru fru and I love that I get a fresh brewed ‘pour over’ (and I learned what that means here … and it’s how I made coffee for years, one cup at a time. That is, until I graduated to a full pot every morning and another during the day if I’m working from home!)
Yay, I’m quite happy to have found this place. Above and beyond having a wide selection of coffee (beans) to choose from, it’s all about the atmosphere for me.
I love coming in here with my laptop to get some serious work done. There are plenty of tables and plenty of POWER outlets because my battery doesn’t last more than an hour, which should indicate that when I settle in to get some serious work done, I’m there for a long time, and it’s never an issue. The lighting is great and I love the aquarium’s, and I’ve never been cold in here (Having an issue with being cold in the winter, this is important).
I’ve had their quiche — not sure if it is made in house or purchased somewhere else but the bottom line is: I LIKED IT. it was hot and delicious and yummy and I don’t care who made it, although I can trust that if Fairly Grounded is selling it, that it’s not full of crap. :-)
The one downside is that the location is *NOT* along my normal path of travel and I have to go deliberately out of my way to come in here. Fortunately that doesn’t bother me so much, but if it were closer to my normal path I would come in more often!
Oh oh oh … and I forgot to mention: FREE WIFI … a huge requirement for me if I’m going to come get work done. And I’ve never had to fight (wait) for a table. I’m sure it’s because of the ‘off the beaten path’ location that there are never many people here. I’ve been in a couple of times when only 2 other people were there (conducting business meetings), once when a group of moms came in with their infant/​toddlers to hang out and knit (stitch and gritch …) And I’ve come in without my laptop too, with a girlfriend and we played cribbage and drank coffee and chit chatted for over an hour.
(and now I’ve found Fairly Grounded Too … which IS on my beaten path)

I really love the clean open environment this place offers. HOWEVER, i bought a cup of tea the other day and was SHOCKED when they charged me $ 4!!! For a tea bad and water! I thought this was outrageous! Especially in these times to be charging so much for a cup of tea. The other prices didn’t seem crazy. It was just the price of this tea that blew me away! I keep wanting to go back, but cannot afford to spend $ 4 a day on a cup of tea. Too bad :(Otherwise I’d be in there everyday. No matter how special the tea is, I just can’t justify this price…

Excellent coffee and really delicious special of the day ham and cheese scone. Perfect for the small breakfast I needed, as compared to the trip to Peg’s happening the next day.

GREAT. Here’s a small business I love to support. Wonderful friendly staff, clean comfortable shop, honestly good product. Stop by for a visit, you’ll have a lovely time.

Well, I’ve been to a bunch of coffee houses in Reno both of the independent and corporate branches, but I must say, Fairly Grounded has earned a place in my heart. I’ve been there a few times and every time I’ve gone, my experiences were always pleasant. The location is nice because I can walk there easily but it’s not smack in the middle of any majorly busy areas so if you do drive, there’s parking and not a lot of street traffic noise. It’s a quaint and relaxing environment inside from the pea green walls to the giant fish tank full of sea horses. There’s a big dog in there sometimes, too. They’re pet friendly so long as your pet is leashed. Everything is freshly brewed including their iced teas. And they have a pretty good variety of things to choose from when you get your coffees or teas. Good stuff. It’s a little on the pricey side compared to other places but I say you get what you pay for and you are getting top notch service here. I highly recommend this place.

This is a great place to go and feel good about yourself for making a responsible consumer choice. What I really love, though, is that their coffees are brewed in a french press, which is just the best way to make coffee. However, when I go to a coffee house, I am usually looking for a good latte, and I found their espresso to be a bit too mild for my taste. Also, I noticed that all of their baked goods come straight from Costco. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing – Costco is a respectable company that treats its employees right – but I get a lot of my goodies from there, so I kind of hope for something different when I eat out.
As for the atmosphere: it is clean and comfortable but not really cozy. I would rather order to-​go here than stay and nest for a while. They do have free wi-​fi, though, if you are looking for a place to work.
Fairly Grounded is connected to Artisans Fair Trade next door, making this a great place to get coffee AND shop. They even have some groovy coffee-​related items in the coffee house itself.
Definitely worth checking out!

I consider myself a coffee connoisseur. The drip coffee served here comes pretty close to or is even on par with an Americano served at Bibo’s. They have a great fishtank and a big dog running around. Its a nice and quiet place which I recommend if you want to study at a coffee shop. The world music they play is pretty chill and not distracting. The only drawback to this place is that its kind of overpriced and they don’t have free refills.
