The company states that they can move you locally or across the country, but we moved 15 minutes away and the location of our house was in a zip code that was too far and «would cost too much to drive to».
So, we mapped the route from the location of the storage facility, and it ended up being less time and not as many miles to get there. Even given this information, due to the zip code being out of their range, they still refused. We were told we had to pick up our three full smart boxes at their storage facility over an hour away, and that was our only option.
After a frustrating few conversations with the owner, we settled on paying them nearly $ 300 and not having a choice as to when our stuff would be dropped off. To top it all off, instead of dropping them off and you unload at your own pace, the driver waited while we unloaded, so we had to unload all three boxes right away so they could take them back.
Lesson learned, make sure you are in their zip code range. Other then that I would say the boxes were smaller then I thought, the covers are fabric and not metal like some others I have seen, but they are less expensive (I think they were at the time I used them). Downside also is you have to sign up for 6+ months to get the good prices, so buyer beware. If you cancel early they charge you all of those fees.

Excellent experience. The cheapest deal I could find for storing my things away from 6 months. They wave the first pickup and delivery cost if you store more than 3 months. They were super flexible with my pick up date I needed to change it the night before my pick up date because I wasn’t done packing yet. Fit all my furniture in one box, but I could have easily gotten 2 for the price. Great company. We will see how everything looks when I grab things from the unit in the upcoming months. You can also go into your unit with no cost.

I went to the smart box facility in Renton to pick up a few things. It was easy enough to schedule a time to have your box placed outside. Super friendly staff. You can park right next to your box. However the hours of operation can be difficult. You must call and set up an appointment 24 hrs in advanced and they are only open on limited hours Mon through Saturday I believe. That being said, they were super flexible with me. I had to cancel several times and they did not charge me. Just don’t forget your box keys to unlock it. Some items shifted in the box but nothing was damaged or broken.

Clean, timely and efficient.
This experience has been good. Even arriving at the earliest time as it was needed for me. Also, picked up promptly. Only improvement would be that the lock holders be larger to allow a larger lock. Everything has been friendly and easy. Thank you!

Should you use Smartbox?
Let me tell you story then you decide. I moved from Denver to Tacoma for a new job. We got two Smartboxes to store things we didn’t need to ‘carry’ with us. We packed the two units, Smartbox picked them up, Stored them in Denver for a few weeks in their secure facility. They shipped them to the Smartbox facility in Renton to keep everything dray, safe and secure. We paid them a lot of money for these services PLUS $ 200 a month for storage of the boxes. Today the two boxes were delivered. The lock on one unit had been pried open. The inside was a mess. The delivery guy stated the locks get busted off all the time because they store the units so close together and the contents must have shifted. We unpacked the unit and found that my entire comic book collection — 10 carefully wrapped long boxes — 80lbs each — all the way in the back of the unit, behind stacks and stacks of other boxes had been stolen. $ 50,000 worth of comics that I had been collecting since I was 7 years old — 37 years of carefully picked — gently handled — near mint bagged and boarded comics. My entire life collection that would be given to my son to pay for his college. All gone. And they took all my sons Legos sets for good measure too. So there you have it.
