Springbrook Trail

In a nature-​deprived, working class suburb best known for its shopping mall you take what the urban planning committee giveth.
In this case, they offereth not even a proper trail. This one’s all wood and concrete, no dirt or slopes to be found. You’ve got to admire its wheelchair accessibility but wonder why they call it thusly.
One starts out on a wooden bridge above the swampy land below, looking pretty and serene. Nature surrounds.
The farther reaches of the path turn to what you’d technically call a road, a wide concrete path. On the right side you’ve got a muddy body of water, less flowing stream and more stagnant canal, grey-​brown and without fauna. Google Maps refers to it generously as «Springbrook Creek.» Surrounding either side of the concrete path you’ll find periodic trees. Out to the left you’ve got series of office parks, as drab and uninspiring as 80s business culture and as lively as the aforementioned canal.
The path ends abruptly, twice — once at a railroad crossing, after which one must cross an intersection without crosswalks; another when the concrete ends and a narrow dirt path proceeds. The whole feels plain and forgettable, much like this town.
Tukwila benefits from its presence, but not by much. It clocks in at just over 5000 steps roundtrip — 2.5 miles total.
A practical suggestion: levy moderately higher taxes on the nearby shopping mall to bring some character to the place and install directional signs at key junctures, and enlist local Boeing to pay for cleanup of the rivers it so often pollutes.

The Springbrook Creek Wetland & Habitat Mitigation Bank Project enhances 110 acres of wetlands and buffer, restore and create a larger connected 20 acres of wetland; totaling approximately 130 acres of wetlands.
This trail and unique interpretive path restores wildlife to a huge section of wetlands where jogging/​biking bridges cross over water and rabbits, heron, otters and tons of birds can be seen.
I jog this trail several times per week. The only downside are the areas which have been «tagged», but for the most part I never see another person.
This is a great place to run and probably an even better spot to cycle.
It’s only about 2 miles, so running it round-​trip is a decent little 4-​mile workout.
