This is a cute little café. It is small and mostly accompanies locals. It is ran by a woman who was very friendly. She greeted me when I walked in, took my order, brought my food, and frequently checked-in with me. The prices are a little pricey, $ 10 for an omelet(other places are $ 8-$ 9). My entire meal was $ 15 for an omelet and orange juice including potatoes and bread(a little expensive for one person for breakfast); however the food was fresh, yummy, and hot off the skillet. There’s street parking that doesn’t appear to be restricted by time or expenses. The resturant is near the freeway and accessible. If you’re looking for a bite to eat, and not intimidated by a laid-back and local atmosphere, go to Café McBryde :)

What a perfect hole in the wall. With a SWEET owner and cook, REAL maple syrup and chicken apple sausage. This place makes me happy. The coffee is also solid and I’m very picky about coffee. Love this place. Only wish they were open Sunday and the owner would take Monday off instead. Thanks for the delicious breakfast.

Still love this place as I have for years I was actually in here the day a so stated«not so picky eater“put on her nice little show and threating a bad Unilocal review over not getting free food after it being offered to replace her over half eatin dish after her rude announcements… Sun is a fantastic cook and is always willing to help her customers… always has been but pardon her entire restaurant of regulars if this sweet little Korean lady doesn’t have time for your nonsense she’s busy feeding the masses as she has been for over 15 years I LOVECAFEMCBRYDE! Real Richmond pride and purpose

I don’t consider myself a picky eater and I like to try new places. but don’t come to this place it’s not worth it! pancakes are disgusting their flat and tastes horrible, the bacon and hashbrowns were burned. on top of that my meal had a hair in my eggs… The meal was completely ruined. I spoke with the manager because the server did not understand English. I told the manager I just wanted to leave and she still wanted me to pay for a plate I didn’t even eat. Manager was rude and has no idea how to deal with customers… trust me i won’t ever be back!!!

Totally not worth the price. In regards to one of the Tips, he’s absolutely right it’s far too much pricewise for such a miniscule amount of food. I was highly displeased with the lack of transparency as well. Look, I ordered something simple: Hamburger plain(no topping or sauce) and I still got charged for everything, nothing was deducted, and for $ 9 it’s kinda ridiculous. Fries-yet another disappointment LITERALLY only 14 pieces of Fries In what world is that going to be a full meal? Don’t go in there hungry or hungover you’re only going to be wishing you’d went down the street to Nation’s.

Little hole in the wall locals hang out that really does not look like much but the food was surprisingly great. David had a breakfast sandwich to rival any I’ve seen at those large chains and my omelet was to order, stuffed with goodness, and too much for one sitting(love leftovers). If you want a new place for a quick bite — and you’re willing to brave Richmond, try it out.

Great food, great service. We enjoyed the down-home feel and delicious French toast(#17). If we lived nearby we’d eat here all the time.

Discovered this while seaching for something to eat one morning. Food was delicious and the atmosphere was amazing. I think I’ve officially found a breakfast spot and I’m not a breakfast eater.

Alan and I met here for lunch yesterday. It’s one of those breakfast served all day places. Though I’ve driven on McBryde quite a few times over the years I had never noticed this block of storefronts. There’s a used car dealer on the corner, a vacuum cleaner repair and maybe sales shop, a beauty shop and the café. Across the street is an Ace Hardware store. It’s a nice, homey neighborhood. I arrived first and was warmly welcomed by the owner and given menus while I awaited Alan’s arrival. There is a table outside, so we could have eaten there w/Jordin, but didn’t. The menu is extensive, w/breakfast on one side and lunch on the other. When Alan arrived we were the only patrons until a party of three women arrived. From the sound of their conversation w/the owner at least one of them is a regular. Classical music plays overhead, thanks to a radio tuned to KDFC-FM. We both ordered iced tea to drink. I ordered Joe’s Special scramble w/two eggs. Instead of potatoes I ordered fruit. Alan ordered Sun’s Special, which was a choice of three different omelets plus two pancakes. He chose the veggie omelet but forgot to request it as a scramble, as he normally does. Our dishes were brought to us by a woman who I think was the cook. My scramble was very tasty and just the right size, w/two eggs, ground beef, spinach, mushrooms and onions. It’s one of the best Joe’s Specials I’ve had. The fruit was a bowl of cubes of watermelon, honeydew and cantaloupe. Alan liked his omelet, but would have been happier w/it as a scramble. It also had more visible egg whites than he likes, the stuff he picks out when he cooks breakfast. He’s fussy that way. He was also not thrilled that the pancakes were served w/the less cooked side up. The upshot is that I’ll be more eager to return than he will be. Eventually I will be back, maybe he will too. I have to check out the bibimbop Amy K. raved about in her review, which deservedly got the ROTD last month.

WORSTSERVICEEVER! ZERO Stars Im in shock right now at how incredibly rude this place was when I asked to have the grill cleaned before they make an omelet for me. I ask everywhere I go and due to food allergies cooks have no problem with it and don’t mind cleaning a grill. At this place, when I asked if I could have it cleaned before making my food the cook refused me service?!? No explanation, no stating«we don’t or can’t do that»(which still would have been strange) but the cook said I refuse to make you food — WHAT?! and EW! are all that come to my mind. How dirty or lazy can a place be to refuse to clean a grill and how hard is it to be respectful to customers?

Don’t waste your time at this place. I wish I could give it zero stats. We came in and waited 5 – 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. Then another 5 – 10 minutes for someone to ask what we wanted to drink. Then another 5 – 10 minutes and they came back and asked what we wanted to drink AGAIN. We said we were ready to order food too, but she wouldn’t take our order. Then another 10 – 15 minutes passed without anyone taking our order so we gave up and left.

Sun lights up this little café with her sunny, beaming smile and warm, happy welcoming nature. She did everything on our first visit ~ greeted us, took our order, cooked our food, chatted with us and played cashier. A few regulars were there, and it was downright cozy to be in on conversations between Sun & her steady customers. Our breakfasts were comforting and tasty. We were happy to return recently. On a Thursday morning, you would have thought it was a Saturday. Regulars were there again, joking that Sun would have to get more tables. Love the combo special — 2 pancakes, an egg, bacon & coffee for $ 6.95! The coffee is really good, and I’m a coffee snob. The pancakes are extra yummy, as they’re more like crépes and browned. Call us regulars!(The only reason I’ve chosen 4 stars versus 5 is the décor is a bit tired.)

If stars could be extracted and transformed into black holes, this hole in the wall might be in another galaxy. I believe the astronomical multi-star positive reviewers of this gastronomical nightmare have left their taste buds on the planet Puketron. An awful undercooked omelette that was a lawsuit waiting to happen, pancakes with a polymer elasticity, homefrys with consistency of broken china and the service, by the proprietress, was worse than a stoner slacker at an all night Starbucks in Lodi. My daughter an I are not foodie snobs whatsoever. We’ve eaten at the greatest hole in the walls from Nebraska all the way down the Mississippi to New Orleans. It’s just so diss spooning to find such a black hole in the wall in our own galaxy. Cheers, T-Bone Appetite

I’m really surprised there aren’t more reviews for this place! I have been coming to Café McBryde for over 10 years. This is a cozy, in-the-wall restaurant that plays classical music as you feast on your breakfast/lunch/dinner. The owner is a sweet and wonderful lady who always makes me feel welcome. Being that Café McBryde is close to home, the food is delicious and the prices are great, there is no mystery as to why I keep coming back. There are 8 tables inside the café, with the biggest one seating 4 but of all the times I’ve come to Café McBryde I don’t ever recall having to wait for a table. My favorite combo for breakfast is the McBryde omelet(tomatoes, avocado, cheese and bacon) with the home fries and wheat toast, accompanied by an espresso milkshake all for $ 13.87. Their hours for July 2014 are 6am to 3pm but their normal hours appear to be 6:30am to 8pm and they are closed on Sundays. I hope to never see this place close as it’s one of my favorite places in the area!

I am super into this place. I kinda hinted to my two small daughters that we would get pancakes for dinner, and they immediately jumped to the conclusion that we were going to IHOP, which — I could see how they got that, but oh god, how my soul wilted at the idea of going to IHOP. I mean it’s fun and all but just nerrrrrr. Anywho, so I remembered my husband had recommended this place, since it’s «breakfast all day!» and he can imagine no greater feat for a restaurant to accomplish. Well. So we walk in and my 3 year old realizes this is NOTIHOP and pitches a fit. Ohhhh noooo I am THATMOM. I tell her«oh honey this is better than IHOP! it’s owned by real people!» and she will have none of it so I deposit her at an outdoor table where I can keep an eye on her and hope for the best. First of all, the owner and his wife were SO sweet. They acted like the«better than IHOP» line was the best thing they’d heard all day, and they took turns going outside to peer at my daughter and encourage her to come inside. Once she finally did, they were so sweet and(at my request) put a smiley face on her pancake with whipped cream, and watched like she was their own grandchild as she devoured it. Props to the other customers, too, who were all really sweet about it and chuckled rather than glaring at me. I love you, other customers! Anyway so then I glance up at the wall and WHAT to my wondering eyes should appear but oh dear god a bowl of bebimbap. I was like«You make bebimbap?» The guy was like«of course!» I was like«In the hot stone bowl?» and he was like«If that’s how you want it!» and I was like BRINGMETHATRIGHTNOWFORTOPUTINMYFACE! and he was like ok! and in very short order I was eating some PERFECT bebimbap, the meat marinated to a tender sweetness, the egg raw until I stirred it into the steaming rice while my daughters looked on in awe-mazement. I was all«I am become BREAKFASTEATER» and I ate the shit out of that bebimbap. Stupid me, I had been hauling my butt all the way over to Solano for my korean rice bowl fix. No more. This was bigger, better, more easygoing, and I love the company. Meet me there any old time!

This place is a rare-breed. A mom n pop breakfast with GREAT food, I feel like Im in a time warp back to the good ‘ol days. The service is A+ an older couple runs the place and makes sure your coffee cup is never empty and that you’re served ASAP. I told the lady working there I was going to write a nice Unilocal review since I like this place and she said she doesnt keep up with all this technology stuff but someone showed something with«4 stars» on their phone. shes a sweetheart. They play soft, soothing symphony music all the time. Talk about easing into your day with a cup of coffee. They sport no less than twenty-three kinds of tea. There is ketchup, hotsauce, milk, and all sorts of other condiments on a little table you can grab super easily. Sure, they’ll bring you it but it’s nice to just grab a bottle of ketchup when you need a bottle of ketchup. And the FOOD! I go for their veggie omlette– it’s unlike one I’ve had anywhere else(in San Francisco too, where I live and there’s good eats all around). It has Avacados and cooked mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes… I’m getting hungry thinking about it right now. For $ 9 and some change it is HUGE and comes with a bunch of home fries and 3 or 4 pieces of wheat toast. When they brought the toast I wondered, «where’s the butter? Ok, this place isn’t perfect…» only to realize they had already melted butter into the wheatbread! Okay Im really hungry now. Coffee tastes really good, though I don’t know the brand they aren’t doing the free refills with garbage stuff. I drink cups of it and enjoy it. A cute metal milk pot adds to the charm. Once I was in here, obviously tired and getting my coffee fix when a lady came in with a couple kids. The owner was so nice he actually took a moment to apologize for the extra noise. Ahh, I wish this place was closer to where I live. It’s crazy to see the Richmond Nation’s Hamburgers packed with its tasteless greesy pancakes when a gem like this is empty most afternoons. Good eats here folks, a real gem.

Tired of the same-o same-o for breakfast, we checked out this neighborhood café. The owner is a very nice lady who took our order. We both had the two egg breakfast — I ordered the linguisa, DH had bacon. We both ordered our eggs over easy. She asked if he wanted his bacon crispy and he replied«not too crisp». She also asked if we wanted our potatoes crispy, and we said ok. We did not wait too long before our food came. My linguisa was well cooked, not too greasy. The bacon was a little too crisp for hubby’s taste — they seemed to shatter with every bite. Our order for eggs over easy resulted in solid yolks, and the potatoes were seriously crunchy — I could hear DH chewing across the table. I guess that’s what«crisp» means. I don’t know, maybe we just ordered the«wrong» thing for breakfast. It wasn’t until after we finished eating that we noticed a sign on the wall stating there was an additional 1 $ being applied to the prices on the menu. Sure enough, when our tab came, the prices reflected an additional 1 $ per order. For my taste, their food doesn’t do it for me. But if you like crispy, crunchy and well done sausage and eggs, you may well love this place.
