It was my lucky day today! I attended a fabulous birthday party for my friend’s son and the cake was DELICIOUS! It was the best cake I have had in a long time, maybe ever. I will definitely buy my next cake from Cassandra. As for the reviews of the cakes not looking fabulous, well I just think cakes are to be eaten, not hung in a gallery. And btw, this cake looked terrific! It was well made and the kids were so happy with it! And that is all that matters.

This was the worst cake I ever paid 100.00 for! The icing was so full of dye thats all you could taste. It was awful.

So I thought I’d give it one more try, hoping the services turned around in a positive way. I wanted a nice and simple cake made for my birthday. What I got was an abomination. What’s more insane is when I walked into the store, Cassandra greeted me with with a braless nightgown. Her husband kept trying to sell us frozen gumbo «ready to go» & «for those times you don’t feel like cooking» as he put it. He kept insisting we buy their gumbo. I don’t want any of your stinking gumbo. Eww!
Especially after this abomination of a cake we seen. So, she shows us the cake and says «you like it?». The cake was hideous, with hideous colors, candles we never asked for, messed up on the names, & used random dust stuff. She messed up on the names! WHY!!! HOW… Spray painted the sides with the most random lime green colors. Keep in mind this is supposed to be one of her signature cookies & cream cake. It was just awful. I never asked for candles. Why did she put candles? Now, I am on a time crunch and have no other means of getting cake and must take it. She already has my money too. She already charged me for the cake, but tried to charge me again. She did not even give a receipt. I will NEVER buy a cake from these nasty ignorant people again. $ 110 for this nightmare. Eww!

I love this bakery. I’ve had a few of the cakes they have on display and they were all delicious. They are moist and the flavor is excellent. They also have a section for day old cake, which they will sell for $ 1.25, perfect for a graduate student like me having lunch on a budget. Even more than their cakes though, my favorite part is the customer service. I am greeted with a smile and kind words whenever I’m there. I recommend this bakery to anyone looking to lift their spirits a bit with some cake.

I came to Cassandra with everything in mind of what I wanted for my daughter’s 2^nd birthday party. I provided pictures, plenty of explanation and expectations. I asked her if she could do exactly what was pictured and she agreed.
My daughters colors were pastel pink and purple. When we received our cake not only was it not what we discussed by any means it was vibrant fuchsia and blue. The cake was disgusting. The icing was grainy and it tasted like food coloring. I will never use this baker again.
We ended up throwing away almost the entire cake I had a piece and my daughter did not even eat it. She’s two and refused. It was very disappointing.

I needed a red velvet cake for a friend’s birthday the same day. I called and was doubtful that a cake could be prepared with such short notice. To my surprise, Cassandra’s was able to do it. That was the first sign of the great customer service that exists here.
When I arrived, Cassandra was still finishing up on my cake. Her husband was in front. I observed him being courteous and polite to every customer that called and walked in the door. I read on the menu that the business had been thriving since the 80s. I don’t have to wonder why.
Finally, I tasted the cake. WOWSERS! It was delicious ! The cake was moist and the frosting was not too sweet.
If you want to support an local business with outstanding customer service and a great product, visit Cassandra’s for yummy deliciousness and great service. I will definitely be back. Plus, they deliver.

It should have been a red flag when I read the sign world-​famous cakes pies and gumbo! But I proceeded on had I known the of events that would follow.

*When asked what happened to the missing characters I was told they were too hard and I would have to add them myself!
If this cake was an example of what is Acceptable to would HATE to see what goes on in her Kitchen!
I would only reccomed this place of you are buying a cake as a gag gift or if you REALLY Hate the person you are buying the cake for!

Cassandra’s Dream Cakes, LLC is a main stay in the City of Richmond. It is a happy business place where you are greeted with a smile amd great customer service. When we have our next hapoy business event I will certainly recommend Cassandra’s for that soufhern flavor to cakes that we love ao much. I ordered a cake for my dads 50^th surprise party. I wanted a simple 50. With red, black and white frosting. What I received looked horrible. I was so embarrassed to serve the cake to my guests! It looked like my 3 year old nephew decorated the cake. It was a huge disappointment because I’ve seen so much of her work and it was nice! What we received was shocking I was expecting so much more. The cake was also late for the set delivery time! We had to postpone my dads surprise an hour and therefore our venue rushed dinner because of THE LATE CAKE. I admit the cake had a decent taste but it looked like crap. She also added those ugly candles on the cake that I did not ask for!!! She ruined the party because of her tardiness. And I will never forget that. I regret not going to Safeway to get a normal sheet. We paid $ 180 for my nephews project.. She also said it looked that way because we couldn’t afford it! I didn’t want a 3 tier cake for a birthday and of course we had a budget on a cake. But do not assume I can’t afford something!!! I am so unhappy with this experience and I will never order another cake from here.

Cassandra cakes are very delicious with a down home «Southern» feel to them. I just recently ordered my son’s birthday cake from her for the 2^nd time and it was Awesome! I placed the order on a Friday with a party date of that Sunday and believe it or not it was ready! Cassandra’s bakery is not even opened for Sunday business however her husband Candy made it priority to meet me at the bakery to deliver the cake which I thought was outstanding customer service! Furthermore, everyone at the party really enjoyed my son’s Bulvarian Buttercream cake! Thank you Cassandra & Candy… I will continue future business with You!

I tried their Carmel cake and their sweet potato pie. I brought them from Louisiana fish and chips in Oakland. The deserts were very delicious.

Very happy customer. Not only did they come through for me when I needed a cake for a last minute birthday dinner, but the cake was fantastic. Everyone was pleased even the usual skeptics. Thanks to CAssandras for your wonderful cakes! Everyone should support this small business in Richmond. Stop going to Safeway for cheap dry cakes lol.

The best cake I have ever tasted!!! I am a vegetarian and don’t eat eggs. This bakery is the only one near my parents house which makes eggless cake. It was so yummy!!! everyone enjoyed it!!!

When going to nursing school there was a small café nearby that served Cassandra’s coconut cake slices. I was sooo enamored by these slices of delight, I would go buy whole cakes to eat by my lonesome. Yes, greedy girl rules!
I threw a 75^th bday party for my grandmum and bought a cake from Cassandra’s based on those coconut cakes from my past. I ordered it to be shaped «75». While the «7» looked like a «1» and we teased my grammy that she was turning 15 all night, the cake was beyond delish!
This bakery has yet to disappoint me! The flavors are just great!
Customer service could improve which is my reason for 4 stars instead of 5 (and the neighborhood but that’s another story!). But I’m not eating their service so I will keep going back!

I don’t know if it’s the same place, but I just bought a slice of sweet potato cake from Walgreen’s with «Cassandra’s Wedding Cakes» on it… my oh my was it good! I mean, yum!

Oh my Gosh… this is the BEST red velvet cake I’ve EVER tasted! (And I eat a lot of cake.) No kidding, moist, buttery, rich, and so expertly delicious. I just finished a piece I bought at the Berkeley Bowl, but I’m gonna order me a Whole Cake from this Gal’s Bakery.

for the *first* time ever, this ever-​elusive baker/​gumbo-​maker was spotted… with her shop OPEN!!! (and I tutor at the local library, which means I do pass by this a fair share en route)
i cannot recount how many # of times I have driven past Cassandra’s shop (have had occasion to talk with her at a local fundraiser for the city, and have spotted her goods sold in individual plastic containers at Seabreeze in Berk., at a market in El Cerrito, and at a BBQ place), and wondered, «When does this woman keep shop anyway?» It’s more likely to see the closed sign than you would ever the open.
And yet, literally one hour ago, I saw her shop open, with screen door propped open to enjoy the breeze, with the antiquated store window adorned with a rare sighting: the oval sign lit, stating OPEN.
Though i did not stop and patronize, Cassandra’s red velvets are something else. Done quite above average (but sorry, quite inferior to Marita’s!!!). She also makes a coconut cake; one friend I know would love it.
Don’t judge a book by its cover; it’s the best advice I can give you with regards to the aesthetics of her store versus the goods that materialize from her spatula. Heard she sells gumbo around town as well. Having made some myself in my past, I pass on that… but if the whim hits, I know where I’m headed!
