Courtyard Richmond Berkeley

Arrived late and was greeted by wonderful staff. Called ahead for a bay view room and they were happy to accommodate us. I travel quite a bit and I think the bed I slept on was the most comfy I’ve ever been on… Even better than home. Small shower area but for a night or two good enough.

The only reason why I gave them 4 stars is due to the inability to reach this hotel quickly from the location I do business with (Richmond marina)…

You would be foolish to stay here. The hotel is whatever, like any old school un-​remodeled Marriott; however, what should concern you are the associated security risks with the place. I stayed here for two weeks while I was in the area for work. The whole time I was there I was warned that the surrounding area is considered «bad» and that car break-​ins were a regular occurrence. Well unfortunately, the rumors were true, the area is terrible and my car was broken into.
On my last day of my stay, in broad day light my car was broken into right in front of the lobby! This was a shame and not necessarily a fault of the hotel but it is a reality that the hotel needs to deal with. There is no secure parking or parking attendant and the reputation that your car «may likely» get broken into is unacceptable. Marriott needs to fix this problem; cameras, gates, guards — anything would help!
Stay here and roll the dice or stay somewhere else and enjoy the peace of mind.

The price was good, the room was immaculate, staff is super friendly and helpful, the restaurant service was great and the food was really good. Highly recommended!

Do not be deceived by ratings on marriotts site… The adjacent mall is filled with thugs. The hotel smells, popcorn ceiling in the rooms, which has cob webs, the bathroom is a shoebox with 7′ ceiling, beds are old and hard. I would gladly pay more next time to stay as far away as possible from this dive.

The room was decent and clean, but pretty plain and simple for the somewhat high price (~$ 180). I did appreciate the iron and ironing board found inside the closet and the full length mirror on the closet door, however I was surprised the room stay did not include at least a simple continental breakfast. I stayed at a Hyatt Regency two weeks earlier that was much fancier inside both the lobby and room area while being cheaper price-​wise, and still included a nice free breakfast bar in the morning. The property location is convenient, being about 2 minutes off the freeway, but the closest vehicle parking was quite a walk from the front lobby, about 100 yards down a hill; somewhat of a bother if you are bringing some heavy luggage. Seems like they picked aesthetics over practicality and convenience when they built the parking lot. Lastly, I will say that the front desk staff were very friendly and efficient; check-​in and check-​out were less than 5 minutes each. Overall, recommended, but a bit spendy.

HORRIBLE. Had I not been lied to and had an expensive bracelet of mine stolen from my room, this review would be different.
After checking out of my room I realized I left something. I called within an hour of leaving, and nobody would speak with me. I was forced to leave VM’s for 6 days for the Operations Manager, who runs lost and found. When I finally got a live person (front desk clerk posing as a manager) to check for me, they say nobody found a bracelet. Yeah, total lies. I know for a fact I left it there, right on the night table. The fact that they wouldn’t even give me the courtesy of a call back is very telling of how they run their hotel.
I will never give them a good recommendation or business again.

My husband and I come to this area for business a couple of times a year and after staying in hotels in Oakland, Emeryville, and Richmond, THIS is the one we keep coming back to. My husband comes here for business and I tag along for leisure. The rooms are clean and up to date. Hotel staff is friendly and always greet us when we arrive. The WiFi isn’t bad. I can comfortably stream a show. There are LAN hookups in room so my husband can access VPN no problem.
Secondly the location is PRIME. You are right off I-​80 east and close enough to the 580 that you could take either to San Francisco. If you’re working in Richmond’s Industrial District the hotel is just a few blocks from Richmond Parkway and San Pablo Ave. Plus this is the least sketchiest corner of Richmond. You’re right next to the Hilltop Mall, a Cinemark theater, Chevron gas station, Bank of America, and several eat-​in restaurants and fast food places. It’s a 30 min drive to Berkeley and Emeryville, and 45 min to San Francisco either way depending on traffic.

Pretty terrible stay. Some large group was staying here and was obnoxiously loud in the hall way. I don’t complain but decided to after listening to these people over the tv for at least an hour. So what does the group do? Take their loud party to the pool, right under our window, at 11pm. Obnoxious and loud. I guess the hotel is scared to say anything to this group… I can’t imagine anywhere else worth a crap would put up with this trash. Area seems pretty sketchy, as well.

Three friends and I stayed here for two nights while we were on a road trip. It was a pleasant experience.
Beds were comfy. Lobby and rooms were clean. I didn’t really deal much with any hotel personnel, as the reservation was not under my name.
My one qualm – which is why I knocked it down from a four star – was that the pool and hot tub were not extraordinarily (or even ordinarily) clean. We still opted to use them, and I went home with an outer ear infection (swimmers’ ear) – which is not for-​sure due to the quality of the pool water, but they happen more often in unclean swimming conditions. It *was*, however, refreshing.
I’d stay there again – but won’t be putting my head under water there again…

Do not stay here, my car was broken into last night. They shattered a window, there isn’t any security or security cameras. The sheets were stained and the pool is disgusting.

My daughter left a brand new MAC laptop here by accident and so far all staff claims no site of it. She said she left it in the room
but, could be mistaken Everyone very upset here. Please contact hotel management if you found it. We are all very sad. It was brand new and contents are not replaceable.

We stayed here this past weekend. It was so lovely! First it was about 20 min away from SF which wasn’t too bad. It was located in a quite area. It was super clean and so quite which is very important. They also gave us complimentary waters! All in all it was a perfect place to stay.

The hotel is located in off of a mall area, in a high crime rate city and that’s certainly evident as one drives in. The property appears well maintained and has a nice lobby and bar area. However, the bar/​«restaurant» is very poorly staffed and one must walk up to the bar to place an order or refill/​additions (not convenient for business).There are very few vegetarian options and the food is pre-​packaged and microwaved. Prices are high and service is poor.
The rooms, beds and amenities are adequate, with in room refrigerators and actual glass (drinking glasses) and coffee mugs (much appreciated) and there are power points at the bedside lamps. t The noise level is high (you’ll hear the freeway all night, even with a room on the opposite side). If the freeway noise doesn’t keep you up, fear not, the a/​c will wake you up from a coma! (They are really loud!).
The staff is pleasant, but overall, this hotel should invest in thicker window glass, quieter ac units and costumer centric training.

Second worst Courtyard I’ve stayed at… and I’ve stayed a lot of them. (500+ nights in the last 3 years). It’s been remodeled, but it there is only so much you can do to the basic structure. Like the room I had, the bathroom sink is in the door way and the closet looked like a after thought, it’s walls didn’t even go to the ceiling.
The area is not the best and for me, too far from Oakland, with traffic… 1.75 hours round trip :(

A few weeks ago (actually on my Birthday weekend), my condo in El Sobrante had a sudden termite problem and my building was evacuated for 3 days. I was informed by HOA that they were comping us a stay at the Courtyard by Marriott in Richmond. As Richmond, CA has such a bad wrap I was not thrilled about this endeavor. Especially considering in my lifetime I have stayed in lavish hotels around the world. However, to my surprise the facilities were brand new and modern, including a Starbucks and lovely restaurant on the first floor, the customer service was phenomenal (with the Manager even greeting us at the door and special KUDOS to Anthony Williams who met me once and greeted me as Ms. Sommerville everyday following). I stayed on the top Business Floor and it was spacious, great views of the Bay and quiet. I would definitely stay again and recommend this Hotel to family and friends.

I was concerned about the area but it was fine and the hotel was extremely nice and staff was outstanding.

We were able to check in early which was nice of them. The hotel was nice and well kept though a lot of our group ended having allergies (smoke?). There is no continental breakfast and there are no walking places around so either you have to drive for food or eat your non dominate arm. Most places are about a half a mile walking distance but good luck with those hills. The only choices for food is the bistro downstairs in the lobby. But it would be nice if someone was there working the bistro. They also serve Starbucks, but it’s a very basic menu. Overall, the rooms are nice, beds are comfy but the duve sheets don’t keep you that warm, even with the heater on.

Never ever thought I would have a reason to come here… but by 0750 yesterday, I was crossing its threshold… I’m going to run to end hunger in Richmond this year. I’m finally putting my mind to it, and signing up! Wanting very much to meet the staff of GRIP and hear some testimonials, I came here for a breakfast to get information, register, etc…
Not a bad Courtyard at all… particularly refreshing is the front entrance restaurant/​eating area, with plenty of outdoor umbrellas and tables. Given that it gets rather sunny/​warm during this season, so apropos! Perched atop a hill in quiet, slowly dying Hilltop area, across the street from Chevy’s (itself also dying a very slow death)
Inadvertently passed the gym; as one would surmise, a sliver of a room with about 3 machines… does the trick, right? induces sweat, raises the HR.
The food served was edible… certain items were quite good (bacon, one kind of pastry, fresh fruit)… others were shockingly ‘cafeteria-​like’ (eggs, french toast). Coffee decent and hotel is clean.
I was able to squeeze in an early morning workout across the street before continuing on my day of appointments yesterday. Chase, Mechanics, and BofA are across the street, for anyone who needs an ATM (as I did).

***I preferred this Courtyard by Marriott to the one near SFO (Oyster Bay), but they are very similar – about the same price, decent rooms, free internet, free parking; therefore, you might want to pick whichever one has the most convenient location for you***
This Courtyard by Marriott is located just north of Oakland/​Berkeley and is about an hour or so away from Napa Valley. It is a decent location if you are planning to spend time in both Berkeley and Napa Valley and want to have a nice room but do not want to spend the high price tags of Napa Valley hotels (though you will be in your car a lot to get around).
The hotel is located right off the freeway, which is very convenient. It is relatively small but decent. The rooms are a little outdated (in terms of décor), but they are clean and comfortable and have fresh linens as well as a nice room temperature. Internet access is also complimentary (so is parking). The walls are a little on the thin side, but I did not find it too obtrusive.
They have a pool as well as an exercise center (the SFO Courtyard by Marriott in Oyster Bay’s exercise center is open 24 hours while this one closes around 10:00 p.m. or so). I am not sure if there is a restaurant on site, but they do seem to have a bar/​lounge. They have a little convenient store for snacks and drinks.
Service was good and very friendly here. I found the service (as well as the hotel itself) better than the Courtyard by Marriott near SFO. I think the SFO Courtyard by Marriott has a better location though. This one is a little out of the way if you are planning to spend time in San Francisco (plus, you will have to deal with crossing the Bay Bridge, which can be quite congested during peak times).
Overall, this is a good hotel for the money if the location (East Bay) makes sense for you. The free internet and parking are big pluses; however, those pluses are also available at other Bay Area Courtyard by Marriotts and they are around the same price per night. So if one of the other Bay Area Courtyard by Marriott locations has a more convenient location for you, you might want to consider one of them instead.
As noted, parking is free and it is easy to find a space close to the entrance.
