Joel and Manuel did an awesome job with painting our walls with vaulted ceilings and installing laminate flooring. My husband and I have two young children who pretty much «vandalized» the house with their «graffiti» on the walls and splotches and stains all over the carpet, and so we wanted to make our place look decent to live in again. We interviewed several other handymen/​contractors before deciding on Joel to do the job, and we chose him because he seemed the most reliable and most reasonably-​priced. He was just overall pleasant to work with throughout the entire process. He is a man of his word, and we’re so happy we went with him.

Joel rocks. He’s very knowledgeable, a clear communicator, and a good problem solver. Shows up on time and gets right down to work — thank you Joel!

We have had Joel and Manuel out to work on our little back house on two occasions. Everything I would be saying has been said in other posts about them — they are AWESOME and professional to the tee! On time, no hassles, super cool AND hard workers that do stellar work. I am a bit biased because my family is from the same country as Joel… but what more can I say, just good people that know their craft. If you hire Joel and Manuel they will deliver excellent work at a totally reasonable price. I think Joel should stop calling himself a handyman, b/​c I think he and his partner Manuel are really carpenters and craftsman at their core!!!

Thank you Joel for yet another job well done! We needed to replace a sliding glass door and found a (new) door on Craigslist. Joel and Manuel installed it quickly and beautifully with virtually no mess at all. At the last moment, we asked Joel to take a look at another small project (that we’d nearly forgotten about) and not only did he take a look, he got it done! We’ll be calling Joel first for all future jobs!

After contacting multiple contractors to do some general fixups on the house we purchased, I had the luck of my fiancé finding Joel via Unilocal.WHAT A BREATH OF FRESH AIR! What does one want in a contractor/​handyman? This is what I experienced with Joel:
(1) Arrived on time for the initial visit/​inspection, on short notice (with his wife and two lovely children).
(2) Understood what we were looking for, understood that we had NO IDEA what we really needed, and very professionally walked through the house with us, suggesting improvements with an *amazing* eye for detail. Things like replacing door hinges, changing the grout in tiles, repainting cabinets.
(3) Settled on a final work list within a day, with an estimate that was less than half of what the general contractors quoted us for less than half the work.
(4) Came with me to home depot, on his own time, and helped me pick out parts for the repair, explaining the process to me in the meantime. He did not charge me for this, even though we spent several hours at Home Depot.
(5) Started work on time, the major job being repainting all the cabinets the house. All precautions were taken, including covering the floor and walls.
(6) FINISHED WORK ON TIME. On exactly the day he had quoted, he handed the keys back to me and we did the final walkthrough. It came out way, way better than I had expected.
(7) BILLED EXACTLY WHAT HE QUOTED. It shouldn’t be that hard to do this, but it’s rare!
I am so happy with Joel’s work, and could not write a more glowing review. He’s definitely won all my future business.

I was in need of a handyman, desperately! My former guy, whom I trusted well over a decade, moved out of the East Bay Area. Unilocal was my reliable resource — where I found Joel and his all five star reviews. Had some odds ‘n end patch-​ups and fixer-​uppers– hole in (hallway) wall, baseboard replacing, and closet track/​head rail fixing. After giving him a call around the dinner hour, he said to email him the detailed jobs I needed done and he’d be over in couple days with a free estimate. True to his words, he was at our door exactly at 9AM the day we’d agree to meet. Rates were very good (labor & material.) Didn’t think Joel was going to start that first day, but did! I was soo happy. He finished the mini projects the following day around noon time. Very meticulous and neat this gentleman was. Takes pride in his work, and very honest. He is definitely in my ‘favorites’ on my iphone contact. Thank you Joel for a job well done!!!

Joel did several odd jobs around my house about a month ago, including changing locks, replacing a toilet seat, fixing a window, and repairing a gate, and I’m still really happy with the work he did.
He is honest, hardworking, and flexible, as well as extremely tidy! As someone on a budget, I really appreciated that he came up with creative solutions that were also well-​executed and not just quick fixes. And he stuck within his quote.
Also, as a woman alone at the house, I never felt the least bit uncomfortable around Joel. He is such a nice, pleasant guy.

Finally, our search for a handyman is over! Our long loved handyman moved away and we’ve since been in search of multi talented handyman. Joel just finished two days at our house that involved plumbing, electrical, plaster and painting. Get that list knocked out!

Joel is awesome to work with. I was referred to him by a coworker.
I had Joel do the following:
1. Remove giant florescent ceiling light (circa 1970’s) — he dry walled and installed recessed canned lights
2. Paint walls
3. Paint all cabinets add updated hardware (This is a great alternative to getting refaced)
4. Remove old peel and stick tiles and install porcelain tile floors
5. Install over-​the-​stove micro hood
6. Repaint front door (patched and repaired)
7. Update all electrical outlets and lights
8. Install dishwasher and garbage disposal
9. Updated baseboards
To start, Joel and I communicated by email a couple times, then he came over to my house to take measurements of the kitchen. He provide me an estimate a couple days later– he grouped the «jobs» in smaller batches just in case I needed to do them over time.
I loved working with Joel, because he made suggestions to help me decide in what colors, finish, hardware, etc… He also stayed late every couple days after I got off of work so he could walk me through what he did. You can really tell that he takes pride in what he does. If you have a specific time line, you need to let him know. We had a pretty large job and I let Joel know that I was in no hurry.
Joel always communicated with me, he did what he said he would do and he was very pleasant to work with. His prices are very fair, they are not «cheap» I believe you get what you pay for and in this case, you get more than what you pay for.

Joel painted the inside of my new home before I moved in. His work was outstanding and I am thrilled with the result. All the little details were taken care of as well. Joel and his helpers were always on time and very considerate. I felt the price was more than fair for the work performed.

Joel is an amazing handyman and painter. We hired Joel to paint the inside of our house before moving in. He did a perfect job at a reasonable price. Joel is a man of many talents and skills: carpentry, dry wall, painting, among others. He completed our unfinished garage, turning it from an ugly, inefficient space into a clean, well-​lighted place for work. He arrived on time, left the workspace in order each day, and was unfailingly pleasant and informative. We recommend him highly.
