Shame on you Emergency Response Systems… for taking a widow on Social Security with multiple medical issues to small claims court for a total of $ 600. I usually do not comment on Unilocal good or bad but this time I just wanted the local community to know what type of business you all are running. First you did not communicate to my mother that your contracts automatically renew and there would be cancellation charges if the contract was broken.
I am ashamed to give you even a one star. Your customer service is non-​existant. Why would there be seven separate small claims cases going on today. Its because your company did not care to work with the customers to see what their needs were. I am glad to be using a different company for our secuirty needs. Best of Luck in the future.

Our company used Emergency Response Systems Inc in Riverside for over five years. They basically monitored our alarm system. We never had a break-​in and had very few false alarms, so they didn’t have to do much. Unfortunately, we ran out of money and went out of business. So naturally we called them and canceled the service. Easy right? Nope, they still want their pound of flesh.
Apparently, it is not so easy to cancel a monitoring agreement with Emergency Response Systems Inc even after religiously paying them for more than five years. They have a sneaky 2-​year renewal clause in their agreement. They have a 3 or 5 year initial term and then a sneaky 2-​year (fine-​print) renewal term which you have to cancel 90-​days before the end of the current term. They employ some very suspect business practices. To add to their shady business practices, if you cancel prior to the end of the current term then you owe the remaining months on the current term — no discount here. They basically stick it to you everywhere they have an opportunity.
If you cancel and don’t pay the remaining months, then the threatening letters start. You get the idea; we’ll sue you for the $ 400 you own us blah blah blah. If you don’t respond, then they start to threaten the employee who signed the agreement rather than the company that went out of business. It’s amazing they think that these tactics work in this day and age.
I would suggest never doing business with them. We were a good long paying customer and you see the way they treated us in the end.
BTW: When we canceled the service our account was current and we owed them no money. Also I gave them several chances to do the right thing but when they started to threaten former employees with a lawsuit that’s when I knew I had to tell our story.
