Stay away from this guy! He cops an attitude and overprices his services.
I made an appointment with Hector for a quote on a sprinkler system repair as well as general gardening work (lawn mowing, trimming hedges, etc.). He wanted over two thousand dollars to do the sprinkler repair. I knew that estimate was high so I asked if he could do a little better on the pricing. Instead of negotiating, the guy tried to fast talk me about how he uses «professional grade» products that regular Joes like you or me cannot buy at the local hardware depot. Then he says he’s a busy man and that he was «wasting» his time in coming to give me the quote because he thought I was serious. I never knew the time of a gardener was so valuable — or maybe this guy works another job as a brain surgeon that he would say he’s «wasting» his time in taking 10 minutes to give me a quote.
As for the gardening work, the guy throws out technical terms for what he does and thinks because of it he can charge double or more of what other gardeners charge. C’mon, mowing a lawn is mowing a lawn, and trimming hedges is trimming hedges — calling it «lawn maintenance engineering» or «strategic precision defoliation» does not mean you can charge me 2 – 3 times as much as the next guy for the same work (the phrases in quotes aren’t the exact terms he used, just an example).
Turns out, for all his brash talk, the guy’s analysis of how to best repair my sprinkler system was completely wrong. I ended up paying the neighbor’s gardener to do the work for well less than half the price. I did not even have to negotiate. When I discussed with him what Hector was planning to do to the sprinkler system, he said that it would’ve made the problem worse! I believe him as my sprinklers have been working perfectly fine since his repairs. And even though he only trims my hedges rather than performing «strategic precision defoliation,» the hedges look great.
Lesson 1: Don’t ever believe that just because a guy wants to charge you more than some other contractor that he will do a better job than the guy who charges less.
Lesson 2: Don’t ever trust a guy who goes out of his way to use technical terms as a subconscious ploy to justify overpricing his services.

We hired Hector after moving into our new home. He had good reviews here on Unilocal so we hired him.
We had him servicing our lawn for about a year. He had fertilized and seeded patches of our lawn throughout that time with no issues.
He changed out some sprinklers and left the old broken ones in our gutter.
He damaged the stucco on the side of our house by hitting the side of the house when moving our trash cans.
He NEVER came on the same day in the week. He would come on a Friday and then the following Monday/Tuesday…and then he wouldn’t show up for awhile.
I wanted to get rid of him but we just didn’t want to deal with hiring someone else at the time.
We needed our lawn fertilized and a few patches reseeded so we let him know. This guy KILLED OUR ENTIRE LAWN and part of our neighbors lawn. He told us he’d fix the lawn. Then he told us we needed to pay him for the fertilizing that killed the lawn AND we would have to pay him $ 400 for him to reseed our lawn.
Seriously beware of this guy he starts out fine but will mess up your stuff.

I would not recommend ! I thought he was cool nice guy! But he came in said we needed all this done. My boyfriend wanted to clear our courtyard. We had so many beautiful plants in it! I asked if they could save the plants and plant them somewhere else! Hector said they could do that! I come home from work and see on my plants gone ! They even took out the plants in pots!!! I had a nicely grown blueberry bush in a pot ! They took everything and didn’t save any of it like he said he would! And left our yard looking like a complete mess!!!
Not happy ! Spent over a grand for a yard looking like a tornado hit it. I regret we hired them. I called him to complain he said he would buy me a new blueberry bush but I never heard from him!

Unprofessional, did not even give a courtesy call to let us know he was not coming to give an estimate. I had to leave work early to meet him at my house, called him with no answer of course and did not show up at all. There are many more conscious contractors/​landscapers out there (on Unilocal), and honest ones too. Got a hold of a contractor and work is getting done. I will post and recommend him once he finishes our project. Thank you

we have used him twice… he is a bit pricey, but worth it. He delivered exactly what he said he would.

Great guy. He’s worked with us over the last couple of weeks as we attempt to sell our house. Great service, very obviously knows what he’s doing, and the yard looks great.

I met Hector when he was working on my neighbor’s yard. He asked if I needed a gardener, and at first, I said no thanks, since we usually do our own lawn care. As time passed I saw my neighbor’s yard looking like a million bucks and the other lawns he cared for on our block looking great. It was then, we decided to let Hector take over.
Now, our lawn looks great and we have more time for other things besides lawn care.
Hector is honest, friendly and reliable. His fees are also great! I recommend him to anyone who needs any type of lawn service.
