My Learning Studio

Last week our SAT tutor (not with my learning studio) cancelled last minute. We had a group of kids about to take the SAT on Saturday and no tutor! I called my learning studio and the owner, Lorna immediately said she would find someone for the group! The tutor Erick was amazing. The students all decided to do an extra day because they got so much out of their time with him. I called to see if we could add another day and the owner said Erick didn’t work on Friday but she would find someone else. Then she called back and said Erick agreed to come in on his day off ! WHAT THE HECK! I am so appreciative and will never go anywhere else for tutoring!

Lorna & her team are great! If our future is the hands of these young people, we are in good hands. Tutors Kelly, Dianna, Bianka, Eric & Henry are great @ what they do. Common Core is part of their curriculum. My wife & I researched the center & we came to the conclusion, that, this is it for us. Kudos to people that care about our children!

i love this place and Lorna she has helped my girls so much. Her most recent class for parents last week was so nice. It really helped us understand the new standards and how to help our children. I cant wait to see what else we can learn from her!

My wife and I began taking our child their since the last school year. We got notice that he wasn’t doing well. Since tutoring at My learning Studio he has been very successful. We have continued ever since. Lorna the owner has been great to my wife and I. And we have loved our tutors Michele last year and especially our tutor this year Natalie. I highly recommend. I hope they expand we would like a facility closer to UCR and the heart of Riverside where we live.

My learning studio is great. Not only does the owner have a huge heart for helping children and their families but she is very community/​family oriented. My daughter has attended tutoring on many different occasions during her years and especially now that she attends the IB program in which the Tutors help with homework, studying habits, test taking and common core standards. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting. Despite the other comment about the owner I have had nothing but polite, pleasant encounters and my daughter loves Lorna Jenkins. My daughter states «she always gives the kids hugs and says hi with a smile even when I’m having a bad day». By far, the owner goes above and beyond to help the community to better our children educationally! My learning studio is highly recommended!

My Learning Studio has been such a tremendous blessing for our daughter Penelope. Not only has their system helped my daughter advance in her school’s curriculum, but they also helped her with her self confidence. In just 3 months with her wonderful tutor Kristen, her reading advanced 3 grade levels and her comprehension is now paramount with all of her studies, homework and tests. Seeing my daughter make such large strides in such a short time has shown me that we made the right choice with this school. I’m so proud of my daughter and of the tutors that are making my child into a superstar. THE LEARNING STUDIO HAS TRULY BEEN A BLESSING!
First and foremost, Lorna is AMAZING! My son has been coming to The Learning Studio for several months now and all I am is thankful! Lorna and her staff have ALWAYS been respectful, courteous, and accommodating when it comes to my son’s needs.
I came to the studio when I was at a stand still in the private school system, my son needed more one on one attention in his weak subjects. Right from the start the experience wasn’t as if we were just customers; Lorna and her staff treated us like family. They have been patient yet proactive in helping my son succeed!
Even in my times of financial hardship Lorna didn’t just turn her back on us she worked out a plan to keep my in the program. I have tried several outlets in the past to help my son in his needs with having an IEP but they all failed him. Then we found the Learning Studio and it was God answering my prayers on how to help my son in his education.
I just want to thank Lorna, Haylie, and all staff that have contributed to helping my son’s continued success and progress. Lastly, I just have to say if you don’t have your child in this studio you should!

I will comment here as one of the tutors who worked at My Learning Studio. I have a teaching credential and 32 years of experience. If I weren’t moving out of state, I would continue to work there.
When I first began tutoring there, I was impressed by the organization of the business. Everything was computerized. Students were given assessments as needed. Tutors were required to write detailed reports of what was done each session with a student. Parents had immediate access to these reports and could talk with the tutor when they asked to. I was also impressed by the quality of teaching taking place. Tutors knew their subject matter well and were communicating it well. Kids were learning. There were a variety of tools provided for tutors and students: computers with internet access, tablets, and learning games of all kinds. I enjoyed working there and was proud to be a part of the center.
Briefly (or not so briefly), I want to comment on C.M.‘s critical post, since I was the tutor in question. C.M. apparently didn’t believe what she was told about my work hours changing, but that is exactly what happened. I had to stop working Mondays. It was just that simple. I worked with C.M.‘s for son for 3 – 4 weeks. Yes, he was energetic! But he wasn’t that difficult to handle. In the sessions I had with him, we always completed the assigned homework exactly as specified on the paper. This was written up in the reports C.M. received so if there was a problem it could have been addressed. C. M’s son came to his session each week with one or two pages of work, usually a Math page that involved copying numbers, and a coloring page that included tracing numbers. This was usually completed within the first ten minutes. After that, I was on my own! C.M. told me more than once, ‘just keep him busy.’ As my session reports indicate, I kept him busy and taught him. Over the course of my sessions I employed the following teaching methods: the use of tactile number tiles for number identification, the use of cartoon flash cards for both number and letter recognition, the use of two and three piece puzzles for matching pictures to words, the use of playdough (fun, but when rolled back and forth to make thin cones, it helps develop co-​ordination), a number of different ‘connect the numbers’ and ‘connect the letters’ to help with both his number/​letter recognition and eye/​hand co-​ordination. C.M. commented about scribbles on the papers. C.M.‘s son had difficulty coloring within the lines, and would often mix crayon colors together, which admittedly looked unpleasant sometimes. But the coloring got done. Also, most of his papers (the backs) had scribbles of endless circles because I had him drawing them continually, small to big/​big to small to help him learn that important hand/​eye co-​ordination. I explained this repeatedly when I met with C.M. at the end of each session.
I could go on, but I’ll stop. One person’s perceived bad experience should not keep others from checking out My Learning Studio for themselves. I recommend it. I would teach there again. I would send my daughter there, but she’s 35 years old now and I can’t tell her what to do. It’s an excellent tutoring center that will almost certainly help your kids succeed at school.

DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!! This place is a joke! My son went here for the six weeks or whatever it was they changed his tutor after 3 weeks saying the guy no longer worked that day. I think it was cause he was an older man and couldn’t handle my son’s energy. Both tutors we had never did what was asked. For example: my son’s math page has directions at the bottom of the page of how do it when he would get done with his session I would check his work and the pages were just scribbled all over. So I would have to go home and sit down with him for another hour to re-​do all the work he just did at the learning studio. The owner of the studio is very RUDE! I would sit in there with my son and the children who came in with no parents she would be very rude and talk down to them. What really turned me off to this place was when the owner was rude to my children. My son is 5 and my other son is 2 we were waiting for his session to start and my kids were standing back by the cabinets and she looks over at my sons and tells them «DO NOT TOUCH MY CABINETS, THIS ISN’T YOUR HOME!!!» I told her I didn’t appreciate the way you spoke to my kids and her excuse was she was being stern I said no you were just being rude that isn’t being stern. I’m stern with my kids and I don’t even talk to them this way! Also, when I confronted her she didn’t even say sorry. She said «I’m sorry you feel that way and we will only agree to disagree.» She felt she did nothing wrong. She left to go to the other building I then asked the receptionist if she is always this rude and she said well she is stern I said no she is rude and she said sorry that’s just how she is and we all deal with and I said I feel sorry for all you because we will not deal with that. We didn’t go back after this incident. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone!

This place is amazing. Great tutors, always willing to work with us. Everyone is always so friendly. Highly recommended!

My son just attended one if their summer camps, Pre-​Engineering with LEGO. I gave it the whole 5 days, but for what I paid… I was very unhappy. The first day I couldn’t believe after paying $ 180 my son would just be siting on hard tile (dirty mind you) flooring. He came home with almost black legs from sitting on the floor. They couldn’t put tables and chairs in there for the kids?!? The person they had come in with Legos was about 30 minutes late, which they made up the time at the end. I had to talk my son into going each day he was so bored. I really don’t think he got anything from this experience. We will not be going back. Very disappointed!!!

This place makes sure you are paying but not that your child is succeeding. My child has been going there for over a year and has made minimal progress. She is still below basic in reading. The Learning Studio told us she would be reading at grade level within 3 months. She has had 3 DIFFERENT tutors during this time. They do not use intervention practices or modifications to fit the child’s needs. My child’s progress showed nothing but frustration! After a couple of months of the child being frustrated, don’t you think you should modify what you are doing with her? We pay $ 300 a month for her to go twice a week for 30 mins. By the time they have the child wash his or her hands and get situated with the tutor 10 minutes have past. So really you get about 20 minutes. I do not know why we allowed them to continue to take our money for this long!

The tutoring staff at My Learning Studio is the best! They work hard to help children succeed in school. Tutoring is personalized for everyone, and they are so willing to help wherever help is needed. Pricing is amazing considering that many tutoring places charge so much more, or even equal to My Learning Studio, but they are not offering one on one tutoring like My Learning Studio. The quality cannot be beat!

My 6 year old son has been in attendance here for a short amount of time but he absolutely loves going. He told me he wishes he could go every day. I’m glad to see him WANTING to read, especially after the struggles we had trying to help him. Everything we tried before seemed to fail. But now we have finally found a solution and I am grateful for My Learning Studio.
Also, their prices are lower then some of the other tutoring facilities we had checked into, so that is an added bonus.

I have been taking my daughter for tutoring and summer camps for 3 years now and I have always had the BEST experience! The staff is great, the owner is very personable and welcoming. She is always very positive and up-​beat. My daughter loves the summer camps! The tutoring she received was exceptional. My daughters grades went up fast and her general understanding of the subject gave her so much confidence!
