Best boutique in Rochester. I always find what I’m looking for when shopping here… and then some. Thread is perfect for fall jackets, knit sweaters, and funky t-​shirts. They also have a small selection of men’s wear, vintage, and jewelry. I think this place really epitomizes Rochester style — a little grungy and hipster-​esque, but classic. It’s a little pricer than other retailers, but you definitely won’t find unique, good quality pieces like this at the mall, nor will you find the low-​stress South Wedge shopping experience. Visit Thread next time you need a wardrobe refresh!

Have been shopping at this store since they opened nearly 8 years ago and have only positive things to say about the selection of unique items, adorable window displays, friendly staff, and fun events that this store hosts. This is a wonderful addition to the Rochester shopping scene and is a great stop if you’re spending an afternoon in the South Wedge shopping, eating, and having fun. They carry many locally-​made jewelery, candle, clothing, and accessory items and the staff can tell you about the artist or manufacturer of every item in the store. Although you’d expect a fashionable boutique to have very high prices, Thread is very moderately priced and affordable, although definitely more expensive than places with mass-​produced items like at Target or Walmart. Their selection of items is sort of a cross between Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie (Thread sells Voluspa candles, for example), and American Apparel. My one complaint is that they don’t really have extended sizes for women, so if you’re more of a petite build this place is for you. As a women’s XL, I only occasionally find clothing here that fits and usually buy gifts for others, or jewelery and candles for myself. This place is wonderful for gift-​buying!

I stopped into thread a couple of days ago in hopes of picking up something unique and cute (which their items normally are). I absolutely fell in love with a dress. I tried it on and sadly it just covered my behind! I’m 5’11 and was unable to find anything in there that was a decent length. This was highly disappointing and I did tell the very friendly store clerk working about my disappointment. He assured me that they would be getting new items in soon including maxi dresses. Just because I’m tall does not mean I want to wear maxi dresses all summer! Lol. I love my long legs, and would like to see some items in this store that allows me to strut my stuff at a decent length. I will give them another try.

I have discovered Thread. What a fantastic boutique. Such beautiful clothes. I was lucky to meet Courtney who is so helpful. Last week I bought the most beautiful belt. Going back this week for a gorgeous little dress for a very special party in May. Some of the clothes are a little young for me, I am retired. But there is so much to choose from. It is like «something for everyone and every occasion.» Love the décor and the music. And I love all the little rooms. Great atmosphere for quiet shopping. (I hate the malls!!) and such lovely things for presents. I really think I could buy all me gifts at Thread. I am so excited about all the Spring and Summer clothes that will pop up there. I highly recommend Thread for all the hip people in Rochester. Also, I find Thread’s prices to be reasonable for such beautiful clothes and gifts and accessories. High 5 for Thread!

I. Love. Thread. I spent most of my college years and shortly after outfitting myself solely in beautiful boutique finds from Thread. I can’t walk out of there without buying something because there are always new and eye catching shiny things to pick up! In the past few years, they have really started to kick up their jewelry selection and I’m totally into that. Great local and handmade pieces make awesome gifts (to myself?) for everyone on your list. I also love to pick up charming handmade cards for special occasions. The clothes are great — trendy and good quality and the housewares are fun and unique. I can’t tell you how many times I have tried something on there only to come out of the dressing room to be «styled» by the owners in the most amazing way that I would have never thought of. I am always happy with my purchases and I love going back. I think Thread really embodies all things awesome about the young Rochester community and I couldn’t love it more.

The store does stock some great brands that can be harder to find without going to a place like the mall. They also do have some cute home goods and unique gifts.
HOWEVER, I usually get treated poorly at worst or ambivalently at best. I’ve been in there many times and it’s always the same. The counter person follows me around or treats me like I’m going to steal something.
Everything is marked up very high. I understand it’s a small boutique but a 300% markup is crazy talk. The store also repeatedly looks empty.
The vibe and ambiance is nice but this is definitely for the affluent shopper.

Very cute store and friendly employees — but just not for me. I don’t think I’ve ever purchased anything here.
The selection is small and the prices high, which is understandable for a local boutique.
They do have very nice items and I know many friends who shop here. I recommend checking it out to see if they click with your style and wallet.

A wonderful addition to the South Wedge. I can’t deny my obsession for boutiques that support local artists and jewelry makers, which by the way have the cutest items featured at Thread. They have unique, simple and trendy pieces — leather, metal, geometric shapes, owls, feathers… Plus adorable dresses that I’m considering for my updated spring wardrobe. They also sell men’s clothing like t-​shirts and super cool belts. Thread is the perfect spot for one of those funky gifts you’ve been on the prowl for your best friend’s birthday gift. I am in love with the canvas bags they sell at the shop, cute mugs and the best smelling candles. Grab a tea at Coffee Connection and pop over for some window shopping at Thread. Although, if you’re anything like me, you might have a hard time walking out of the store without purchasing one item. I basically completed my birthday gift list on my recent visit, but May is too far away. Likely, I’ll be back to grab the necklace I was lusting after.

Neat place, awesome mustache bottle openers, in case your mustache doesn’t already open bottles.

Thread is a great place to spot the unusual and cool. Find super cozy winter gear, cute fluffy pillows, the latest décor stuff from local artists and projects.

Stopped for a drink at LUX and there was a crazy band and people spilling out of Thread so we crashed the after hours party. This place just keeps getting cooler :)

A wonderful little store with very friendly employees and a great selection of constantly updated clothing. My only complaint is that the selection is on the small side, but I look forward to watching them grow in the next few years!

Thread, as others have noted, is a hip, trendy place. I liked the vibe it gave off, and music that was playing. The staff was super friendly. I didn’t buy anything here, as it being trendy, translates into higher end casual wear, which I just can’t justify buying. Many of the clothes were very tiny, as is expected in this sort of place, so not much for me to wear anyway. This store would be at home in SoHo, and is a surprise in Rochester. Check it out!

Pretty much the only place to get trendy urban gear in Rochester, NY. Really friendly staff, always playing some upbeat, cool music. Sometimes I can’t find exactly what I’m looking for there, but it doesn’t matter because it’s fun to visit anyway! Oh man. I don’t live in the ROC anymore, and just writing about this place and reading other reviews makes me miss Thread!!!

Thread Home is an extension of Thread (clothing boutique, next door). Actually I’ve added it with the same address because I couldn’t find an address online and I know they have a different physical address.

Cuteeeee glasses, mugs, dishes, kitchen accessories, stationary… etc
The amount of merchandise is a little sparse but I’m pretty sure they’re only been open about four months. As far as I know, there aren’t any other stores like this in Rochester…

Another on my list of places I miss most in the ROC is Thread. Unique clothing and accessories at super affordable prices. Friendly staff. I agree with Lisa — you kick Urban’s ass.

it blows the predictable urban outfitters out of the water, while keeping a fresh, cute bodega feel.
it has something for everyone – the nicest part about it is, not everybody is already wearing it.
