If you like a quiet breakfast on a Sunday morning, then don’t come here. People, sitting shoulder to shoulder, at the counter, needlessly but cheerfully shout to each other at 7:15am Sunday morning. You’d think they were at a construction site. The TV is at a screaming high volume, too. You say you’re hungry? Well, you’ll just have to wait till the grill warms up, even tho their website claims 7:00am is opening. Nope, no coffee is ready, either. We were served 30 minutes after we walked in. That is not acceptable. Food was alright, and the waitresses were lovely, but I won’t be back.

Cucumber honeydew, grilled shrimp soup! Out of this world! Our cousin brought this from J’s on the Bay to our BBQ. I haven’t had a cold soup as delectable as this one. So refreshing. Can’t wait to visit them for dinner soon.

Wanted to give it 1 ½ stars but app wouldn’t allow it. Went there with my wife instead of our usual spot. She had short stack and bacon, I got 2 over easy with bacon and wheat toast. Eggs were overdone and must have been extra small size, potatoes were burnt and bland not to mention small portion and I have had better instant coffee than they have. She said her pancakes were good. Price was $ 22 and change! Way overpriced for diner on Staten Island. I have had better breakfasts at corner Bodega’s. Only reason for 1 ½ stars is that she enjoyed the pancakes and waitresses were polite and attentive. Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

I always pass by J’s on the bay, but i’ve never went inside. It does not look like much from the outside, but it has a delicious menu. Great presentation and great service. I came here reluctantly because everything else on the island was packed for mother’s day. I am genuinely grateful that everywhere was packed, otherwise i would not have found this gem. I got a banana walnut french toast. Delicious! Enjoyed every bite. The portion was generous, the flavors complimented each other. I love the use of candied walnuts, it added a nice crunch. My sister got an omelet with brie cheese on toast. It came with home fries and a mesclun salad. She enjoyed every bite, but the home fries were a little burned. Overall, we loved it. The place itself is small, and it has that old diner feel. The ambiance was quaint. It was busy because of mother’s day. We called in and asked them to hold a table for us.

I absolutely love love love this place. Ive been coming here for two years. The food is delicious, the service is attentive and nice. All of the waitresses are incredibly sweet and they don’t forget things! Even when the place is full i always get my hot chocolate! Coffee refills are plentiful. red chairs and bar stools create the feeling of a 50s diner. They recently redid the floor. I wish their hours were a little longer — they close at 3pm so if you want a satisfying meal wakeup! Unfortunately i come here less frequently since i moved across the island but i was so glad to be back today. Thank you for accomodating my rediculous requests!

Came here today after the 5 Boro Bike tour. We weren’t sure where to go, so of course I checked Unilocal and trusted their great reviews. I’m glad I did, everything was terrific! The service was quick, friendly, and mostly, attentive. The burger was one of the best I’ve had, and the coffee was made fresh for us even though they were closing soon. My friends got the soup of the day, which smelled and looked absolutely delicious, and a roast beef sandwich, which was also very good. I wish I came to Staten Island more often, because this would be my go-to lunch spot. It reminds me of my hometown diner in Long Island. Everything was great when we were desperate to find good food after such a long rainy bike ride! These guys are killing it!

Awesome brunch spot. We got Rocky Road Pancakes and the French Batter Croissant for the middle of the table. Gluttonous but ya gotta do what ya gotta do after a late night of drinking. The South of the Border Omelette was outstanding as well.

Stopped in today, I had seen there review on and it just so happens that my husband knows the opener/chef. Parking was super easy, and we were greeted as soon as we walked in, the place is small but very cute, 50’s theme. They serve breakfast/lunch until 3pm since it was still early, and I love breakfast we decided to order that instead of the lunch. But the lunch menu did sound very appealing! Meatloaf, macaroni & cheese, wings, the list goes on, pure comfort food. I ordered the hungry man, which came with eggs, home fries, bacon, French toast, coffee, and orange juice. Let’s start off with my favorite, the home fries! Oh my god pure perfection! I had to ask my husband if he gave the owner his recipe because I love my husbands home fries. They were perfectly burnt! Which I love, seasoned very well, the peppers were very cooked which I loved! And the amount they give you will definitely fill you up. The French toast had a great cinnamon taste, very good, bacon was great quality, and nice and crispy. Coffee was great! Eggs were basically eggs, no complaints. My husband had a omelet with chorizo, peppers, onions, and he loved it!!! Said he would have loved it more if the chorizo was cooked a little more, but that wasn’t a deal breaker in ordering it again. Service was great also, very attentive. The owner send over some chocolate zeppolis which were good, too bad I had zero room in my stomach for them, but it was a great gesture. Pricing was extremely responsible also, we will be back, especially since we went there for breakfast, was still full for lunch, it’s almost dinner time, and I’m still not hungry lol

This place was advertised in the local paper and I decided to give it a try. Although I live a little far from the place, the lady on the phone was kind enough to accept my order. I ordered the lunch special, Chicken Florentine on Ciabatta bread and salad. I was prepared to wait quite a while to receive the order but to my surprise it arrived quite fast. Immediately I was thrown aback, the portion was huge! One bite and my mind was blown, delicious! Soft, tender chicken just melted in my mouth. Peppers were sweet and juicy. The salad was incredible! Absolutely fresh and tasted superb. For $ 10, this was the best experience I have had to date. I just hope I can place more orders with this place. If not, I will most definitely travel to Rosebank.

This place is awesome! It reminds me of being in the 1950s! It’s a nice small little place and the food is delicious and so inexpensive! I saw it driving down bay at one day and had to go there! I will be going often!

Stopped in for a bacon egg and cheese to go. The place was clean and fairly small with a good breakfast crowd. I considered dining in but as the TV was blasting I decided against it. I had this same experience elsewhere recently, I guess that’s what people want today. Anyways, I was surprised at the low price($ 3 plus tax, with 2 eggs!) and that the very pleasant(and pretty) cashier offered extra ketchup packets without me asking. As for the actual food the bacon was a bit overdone but it was otherwise good. I shall return, perhaps at a later hour when the noise is more acceptable, and try dining in.

A breakfast find! Of course the eggs are great. But who would expect pumpkin pancakes with maple butter? Bacon crisp means just that. Coffee cup is never empty. And the service is quick and friendly! We’ll be back, often.

My wife and I came for breakfast. Excellent food, good ambiance. The server was really nice and it’s pretty cheap. Seems like this will be our go to place for brunch.

Ate breakfast at J’s for the first time and at 11am, it had a good number of families and regular customers. Cute little diner/luncheonette type of place, clean, great service and tasty, inexpensive food! Our waitress was attentive and sweet and i liked the fact that she knew some of the customer’s names. Their home fries, omelettes, french toast and coffee are all delicious. Unfortunately, they close at 3PM. Hopefully they see these reviews and see that people do want to go to J’s at later hours. I’m looking forward to trying their chicken and waffles! Oh, and they serve milkshakes!

This place is very good; great burghers, great fries, breakfast really rocks! Couldn’t give them 5 because they close at 3. Cheers!

Hand crafted burgers indeed! The burgers here are excellent. Tender well cooked and fresh. The fries were packaged frozen fries… Sort of disappointing compared to the great burger, but they were well fried and not over or under done. My co-workers and I all enjoyed our meal and will be back to try other items off the menu.

Great reboot of a neighborhood favorite. J’s offers lots of the luncheonette classics, including egg creams and milk shakes, many with a updated twist. The BLT features thick cut slab bacon, cherry tomatoes in caramelized onions and avocado on a fresh ciabatta roll. Fritatta specials add variety to a standard egg menu. Chicken and waffles with bacon jam and cheddar cheese lived up to the hype. Nice job guys! !

I’ve always been a fan of supporting local, small businesses. J’s on the Bay makes it easy. The prior location was good, but pretty standard. J’s took a good thing and made it better. The biggest plus for me is the menu, which is colorful and varied. Sure, you can get the usuals, eggs, pancakes, soups, sandwiches and burgers… but they use great ingredients and diverse flavor combinations. It closes at 3pm. Sure, it’s a luncheonette, I get it. Still, I wish it stayed open later. The décor has remained true to it’s roots and preserves that soda fountain feel, but it has an updated, modernized feel. The service is friendly.

Enjoyed a South of the Boarder(Border) Omelette… Chorizo Caramelized Onions and Banana Peppers for lunch today… no toast, yes home fries… turkey bacon on the side… Charlie had a Steak House Burger with Sautéed Mushrooms and Caramelized Onions topped with Fresh Mozzarella… Deluxe. Charlie and I are from The Clean Plate Club. Have ya heard of us? Service from Kyla was excellent… one of the gentlemen from the kitchen asked how we enjoyed our food… And even though we arrived just before 3pm(which is their closing time), we didn’t feel rushed out… I’ll be back.
