Worst customer service I have ever experienced. I left without a massage because of gross mishandling of a situation involving a Groupon gift I received. The woman at the desk was unhelpful and combative when I asked her to honor the Groupon and as a result I left without a massage. She also said she would not honor the Groupon gift at a later date. This was unbelievably disappointing and certainly not relaxing.

This business is extremely unprofessional, I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I came in for a facial that I got through groupon and I received horrible service. When I walked in the young man working the front desk was cold and not friendly and had no clue what he was doing. He couldn’t find the correct consent form for me to sign. His response to me after a couple of questions about the service: «I don’t know anything, I’m only here on Saturdays.» After a while he just stopped looking and left me waiting for over 15 minutes until I had to ask about it yet again, at which point he took off to some back room and never came back. At that point I had been waiting half an hour past my appointment time and so I walked towards the service rooms to find the person in charge and she was busy with another client. I couldn’t wait anymore and I was so fed up I just walked out. I would imagine Saturdays would be the busiest days so for this place to be so understaffed and to greet and treat their clients so poorly is baffling.

I used a Groupon and had a massage by Anita. She was awesome. She was extremely skilled in relaxing my entire body. The hot stones and warm booties were very relaxing! I live in Roslindale, so it’s convenient for me and I try to support local business. The only reason I didn’t give a 5 star rating is because it’s almost impossible to get a hold of her. For the first time to schedule the appointment, they would never pick up the phone and it took her 2 weeks to give ma a call back after multiple voice messages left in her machine. Because the massage was so good, I’ve been trying to schedule another massage, but it’s been difficult. Don’t rely on having her call you back, call everyday. She will get back to you at some point.
If Anita had a better calendar/​call/​schedule system she would get 5 stars.

This is the best hot stone and swedish full body and leg massage that I have ever gotten.
The location is easy to get to, the owner/​masseuse is very personable and professional, you have to check this place out!

Had a great massage with Anita at the new location which I got through a groupon. The hot stones were terrific and really got every part of my body that was pretty achy. There was a simple form at the beginning that helps them know what areas to target. The spaces was very comfortable. Would definitely go back.

Had a great 60 min massage here with a Groupon. Anita spent time on the areas that needed extra attention but was thorough with the rest of the massage too. I’m sure I will be back!

Ok so Ive always wanted eyelash extensions and never understood why they were so expensive, what if I didn’t like them? I would be wasting $ 150 – 200. So after checking groupon I decided on A and J. They had a deal for $ 59 for a full set and then a refill after 3 weeks.
The building looked like an old broken down school with each door or «suite» leading to a business which they all were closed. I walk in and this nice lady had me fill out the information then she asks what kind of eyelashes I want. I tell her natural all the way and asked if she had any pictures of customers to which she ignored. Then she brings out eyelashes and tells me it is what people usually get when they want natural so I go with that. They were not individual eyelashes as I noticed later while ripping them out of my eyes. They were a cluster of 3 – 4 lashes to go on each lash.
I lay down she puts nothing on my bottom lashes to prevent them from getting adhesive on them. She proceeds to start and 5 minutes into it she begins to rip my eyes open and when I say rip, I mean by then my bottom lashes and eyelid were glued to the top lashes and eyelid. Taking a tweezer and ripping the adhesive off which is like crazy glue so imagine that. Not caring for the pain she tears them until I yell out in agony and tell her I will do it myself. She then says this is normal when you get extentions. REALLY? because I am sure pain is not suppose to happen.
So my eye is sore and red and watering profusely, she then tries to go and work on it again, I have to tell her to start the other one because clearly this one is no good.
so she then takes tape… and puts it on my bottom lashes. not the proper tape a ridiculously sticky tape. so now she starts the other one making sure not to glue my whole damn eye shut but still manages to get adhesive on my bottom lash. when she is finished she tries to rip the tape off and this tape! omg!!! like do you know my lashes are under there!!! I have to tell her not to touch and I will do it because she clearly doesn’t give a sht.
this whole experience was the most painful thing I had ever experienced! And on top of that THE EYELASHES!!! they looked like big thick black feathers like a damn deer… or ostridge eyes… WTF this is natural!!! then she didn’t put any on the far corners of my eyes so they looked weird and when I asked her she said they will fall of anyway. like wtf!!! I mean I am a gracious sob because I totally nervous laughed my way out of there
I couldn’t keep my eyes open because there was so much glue right on my waterline. I went home and googled how to removed them and when I did, my poor lashes were meek and pathetic.
I then when I go to get my nails done and my nail salon Mimosa Nails on Gallivan blvd, they apparently does lashes too. so I got them done and OMGGGG they look like my own lashes super natural… gorgeous. only 60 $ which I was shocked about I will post the pictures at some point but there was NO PAINNNN
Yea so this is not a spa… it is an old building which probably has mice everywhere… Don’t get your lashes done here because its bullshit… take your ass somewhere else and stop being cheap like I was… its worth it if you want those kardashian lashes girl …

I came here with a groupon. The place is located in a very run down office building. I wouldn’t travel here at night if my life depends on it. The rooms have open ceilings, which means you can hear everything going on in the place. The massage table are cover with paper towels, the kind that’s use at the doctor’s office. It was not a relaxing environment.
However, Anita is a very wonderful massage therapist. She is super friendly and helpful. Also, the price was ¹⁄₃ of what I would paid at a regular massage place, so I don’t mind it at all.
If I live near by, I may go back (with a groupon). However, I would not make a special trip just for it.

There have been some mixed reviews about this day spa, but I have a fairly moderate opinion of it. I had a massage (which were generally highly rated, as opposed to the facials, which I cannot speak about), and while I had a good experience, I would not quickly go back.
The location is very modest. It is a walk-​up apartment and the spa rooms had some water damage on the ceiling. The massage table was old and I was lying under a plastic sheet that was topped with a scratchy blanket. Also, I could hear constant talking from the employees in the waiting room during my entire massage.
So overall, not great facilities, which is something I value as part of the experience. That being said, if you are indifferent about the frills of the experiences, then Anita was a fantastic masseuse. She was attentive and really worked out some tough knots. I loved the actual massage time, and the other employees were very kind and welcoming.
I bought a Groupon for this, and for that cheaper price I felt that my money was well spent (although I would have been quite frustrated if I had paid full price given the problems i had with not being able to relax due to loud conversations). With a few cosmetic changes, this could be a very good day spa, but for now it remains a second-​hand place to me.

Fabulous massages. I had three in the past 2 months, by Anita. Each one only got better. I was so relaxed today that I just wanted to go to sleep right there on the table! Its not the most tony location, but its convenient — right in Roslindale Square, on the 2^nd floor. They are very professional and friendly. I was there on a coupon and I felt treated like a king. Don’t miss out!

I just can’t see how this place stays in business, at all. This is not a spa, it is a crappy walk up apartment with rotting carpet and some ancient beauty school equipment. I think Anita is a nice person, but she has no idea what she’s doing. During my facial she told me I had a blemish that was «ready to blow» and then squeezed the hell out of a MOLE– she couldn’t tell the difference. I want to support local businesses, especially those run by women, but this place is a disaster. I have to assume the positive reviews here are from people who have either never visited an actual spa/​salon or are friends of the owner.

I have gone to other spa salons in the Boston area and they just don’t compare to the service and attentiveness that A & J’s had shown to me and other customers during the Thanksgiving Holiday. The facial was the best professional massage that I have evered received. Many of my past experiences do not compare to the level of professionalism that was displayed by the staff. Thanks

I visited the «spa» summer 2012 but I’m just now getting around to leaving the feedback. I purchased a Groupon for three facials for an amazing price but I was so disappointed I had to call Groupon for a refund.
I’ve visited many spas across the country and was shocked at both the experience at this location.
First, I had a terrible time booking my appointment; to the point it became confrontational with the receptionist/“esthetician.” When I arrived, it was far from a day spa — it was a converted upstairs apartment. The room I was placed it had no A/​C on a hot summer day, and the table was a medical type table covered in a plastic cover.
The equipment was dated (I’ve never seen anything like this before). I was asked to put on a robe that was dirty and then I proceeded to sweat for an hour while she did nontraditional facial procedures.
At the conclusion of the facial, I was so alarmed I wondered if I was on the show, Punked.
Avoid.

For my birthday, my girlfriend bought two groupons to A&J’s for massages. I called up that day (late September) to find out that they were booked solid every single weekend through October. That’s fine and all, but the receptionist said that she doesn’t have the schedule for November yet and couldn’t schedule me in until October started. I was excited to get here and said to please call me back as soon as you get the schedule and make a special note to call back. October came around… at about the 5^th I gave them a call to find out that they’re booked through November, and I scheduled an early December massage FINALLY hoping to work with their schedule. Right before December rolled around I received a voicemail asking to reschedule because of a family illness. I understood that a family illness can cause great stress and also a lot of pain so rescheduling is not a problem, BUT they cannot even talk to me to reschedule until mid January… It just seems like this came at a bad time for them, and particular a bad time for me. I’m refunding the Groupons an going somewhere else where they can schedule me in.

I had a Groupon for a massage at A&J and was not disappointed. The building definitely isn’t the most posh, but the massage was worth it. I got a better massage than when I go to big, fancy spas or chains. I can be really picky and often leave not feeling totally blissful, but I’d highly recommend this place to anyone.

Anita is amazing! This place is super clean, very comfortable and so peaceful.
My mom and I purchased hour long massage and seaweed wrap (part of a Deal Find package) but I could have easily stayed another five hours in this relaxing environment.
Freshly painted walls, soothing sounds and professional heated massage beds– this was clearly a top-​notch spa. I felt welcomed and never rushed! It is nice to have found a masseuse close to home!

So, I have never written a Unilocal review. I have never felt it necessary. But, this experience has led me to sign up and make a comment. I got a groupon for this spa. And, after reading all the reviews posted, I purchased the 3 60 min. massage. After a really tough day at work with my shoulders and back throbbing, I thought this would be a good purchase. I called in and got an appointment.
First, let me say, that I have had massages before. From the crème de la crème at the Ritz to a small spa boutique in Chicago. And I am not one who judges before an experience so when I arrived at the «spa» I was a little taken aback. Small rooms, febreze be sprayed as I walked into my massage bed. I guess I did not have to luxury of having Anita, but the guy who came into the room was awkward and made me uncomfortable. I told him my neck and shoulder were the trouble spots and he started off with my legs. I had to tell him again that my areas of pain were in my shoulders so that he can focus on them. Around 5 minutes into the massage, he began to pant. Yes, I said pant. I sound much quieter when I run a marathon. He continued panting until he started saying «It’s hot in here.» I told him he can open a window and he did, but the panting didn’t stop. Half way through, he asked if he was as good as the massages I had before. Uncomfortable… And then he asked if I was married… EVEN MORE UNCOMFORTABLE.
You know when after a massage they tell you to take your time in getting dressed and come out when you are ready? Yeah, the moment he left the room, I bolted off the table to get dressed. I was so uncomfortable being there.
Listen, I have come to Unilocal to get advice, to see what’s good out there, and to make a decision for myself about whether or not to go to a restaurant, or a salon, etc. But, for those reading this review, I will advice you as I would advice my best friend — don’t come here. Save your money. Seriously. Go to a spa that is actually a spa versus a commercial room with a febreze in the corner (I’m not joking… the secretary sprayed the room as I walking in…)

Anita’s hands are amazing! she put her all into the massage and was very professional with working on my aches and pains.
She loves birthdays, so go on your birthday as I did, you’ll get extra love from her!!!
the only reason I gave it a 4 was because the area has limited parking, and the décor of the spa isn’t the nicest.

I bought a package for A&J through DealFind a few months back. My birthday was last week so I decided it was time to treat myself. My package included a massage, facial and mani/​pedi paraffin treatments! I rang up Anita, we chatted and scheduled my appt for after my birthday but Anita, being Anita, she remembered my birthday and included a hot stone massage on my already discounted package as her birthday gift to me. Mind you, this was my first time at Anita’s shop. I arrived early to fill out my paperwork and meet Anita. She was as warm and welcoming in person as she had been on the phone.
We moved to the first treatment room and I got ready for my massages. Let me say before I go further, I get a lot of massages. Anita has a gift, as stated in other reviews, to find the spots that need attention and gently working out your kinks.
Next, I donned my terry robe, slippers and headband preparing to move to the next treatment room for my facial and paraffin treatments. It’s been years (decades) since I’ve had a facial and I was really looking forward to this part of the afternoon. I was not disappointed. I lost track of how many layers were applied and removed from my face, steam treatments in between and during layers… hands and feet covered in paraffin and terry mitts and footies… I was a Queen.
As in all amazing adventures, they must to come to an end. When my time was up I was a different woman than the woman who had walked in a few hours earlier. Not only because of the treatments themselves but because of getting to know Anita. I will definitely return for more pampering in the future.

I had a massage with Anita a few months back and she is one of the loveliest people I have ever met.
Not only is she calming and nice she gives a really great massage. She focusses on the areas my body needed the most and worked on me as if she knew intuitively what my body needed.
