Excellent breakfast Sicilian omelet piping hot and delicious. Everything tastes homemade. Great French fries too. Recommend to friends. Menu has many different onelets and choices.

I absolutely love the atmosphere here. Have been living in the neighborhood for years and never thought to stop in. However, since I discovered their reasonable prices and great food, I’m addicted! I’ve brought friends and my son in for breakfast. Even had a random stranger pay for our meal one day. Can’t say enough about this place. Only downside is the waitress are not too friendly. Otherwise, great place to get your grub on!

It was alright, it was a very typical breakfast spot, nothing special. I would go again if I needed to, but am not a raving fan as it had nothing special to offer.

Typical diner breakfast experience. I took off stars because my iced coffee came out warm without ice. Aside from the coffee not being good the food was OK.

I hate breakfast. I don’t eat meat, I hate eggy things, and I don’t see 100 grams of sugar as a reasonable adult choice for starting my day. So when the family wants to go out for breakfast, I cringe at the thought of all the nearby trendy coffee shops that sell overpriced diabetes for breakfast. Blue Star is the antidote. They have an expansive and accommodating menu, so you can have piggy grease and sticky pancakes for breakfast if you want, and I can order oatmeal, fresh fruit, and wheat toast. It’s unpretentious diner food but it’s fresh and high quality. The prices are pretty reasonable. They bring you tons of food. One time, we got there at 8:30. There were empty tables, it was awesome. But 9 is the magic hour when this place gets swamped, so unless you fell out of bed really early on the weekend, get ready for a 20 minute wait or a seat at the bar. Not that that’s any better anywhere else for Sunday brunch. Criticisms: the coffee is not great, and it’s cash only.

A great eggs and toast kind of place. Good coffee too. Pancakes and home fries leave something to be desired. The price is quite reasonable, though remember it is cash only.

Good food. Sad to say, horrible service. I am normally tolerant of slow service when the place is busy. but…there were people who came after us, who were seated and left before we got our meals. During that 55 minutes we were not offered coffee refills. The food was good. Only after we were completely done, were we asked how the meal was. By that time, the place was half empty. My advice would be to only go on a weekday… hopefully they are better then.

Great breakfast spot. Good food and service for a fair price. I recommend here if you’re looking for a good breakfast/brunch place.

Great place to get breakfast, everybody is nice there, the food is always good. The only issue is that they only take cash. Overall, a great place to eat though!

Extremely cheap breakfast. The food is equivalent to diner food, nothing amazing but definitely not bad. I live within walking distance so this is usually my hangover cure when I’m too tired to cook.

Wide variety of food. I was surprised about that. Their combos are a good choice for someone trying to sample more than one thing. So I got the #9 combo: veggie omelet with cheese, 2 pancakes($ 9.59). I also ordered a side of home fries(2.50) so that I could have a good review for Unilocal The home fries were better than I expected. I looked at them & thought«ugh I’m gonna need to add salt & pepper» but none of that was necessary. They were well seasoned on their own. I just added hot sauce since there was no ketchup on the table. But this is something I do out of habit. The omelet was also very tasty & well seasoned! Veggies tasted fresh. Very filling. The cheese added a nice flavor and wasn’t overwhelming. The pancakes were not good. They seriously tasted like freezer brand pancakes heated on the grill. Lucky for them, I love all pancakes and hadn’t had any in over a month because of my diet. But I could’ve done those myself. You expect a diner to at least have amazing pancakes. I didn’t order coffee because I’m honestly over diners and their overpriced coffee. But everything else was good. Wouldn’t go out of my way to return. BRINGCASH!

Great little place in the SQ, dishes are pretty good portions. Service can be better tho, it takes a little bit of time to get a second cup of coffee. Will be back!

Best breakfast place in Boston in my opinion, it’s definitely my favorite. Granted I’ve only ever eaten breakfast here but the omelets are great, pancakes are delicious, portions are large, and all for a super cheap price. What else could you ask for? The whole little neighborhood of Roslindale has a long list of amazing restaurants and Blue Star is just one of the many hidden gems.

This is your average greasy spoon townie diner, but with much less grease(which is nice!). They serve breakfast and lunch, opening early and closing late in the afternoon. Their portions are hearty and the service is prompt and curteous. It gets really busy on weekends, so plan accordingly. Speaking of planning, THISISCASHONLY. There are multiple ATMs all around this location, but nothing’s worse than being caught in a cash only spot with only a debit card. I’m partial to the steak and eggs. They have a good marinade. The menu has many old favorites and comfort food items. It’s been in the neighborhood longer than many places, so that can attest for it’s quality. My gram likes this place. Her friends do too. It’s really more like 3.5 stars than 3, but I round down only because of the«cash only» status. It’s a basic, quality, no-frills breakfast. you’ll leave full and happy and ready to go back to sleep.

A great neighborhood Diner! Nothing fancy, but a lot of innocent charm, homemade food(they make their own corned beef hash) and has a very familiar vibe. Lots of locals and families bringing their kids. Cash only. Perfect for breakfast if you’re in the neighborhood, but nothing to go out of your way for.

What has happened to this place? When I lived in the area I went here at least once a week for breakfast. Cash only — understood. The menu is extensive and everything is normally cooked perfectly. On occasion a side dish is served cold, but there is no problem sending it back. The Blue Star’s downfall are the details. I was not offered a second(small) cup of coffee until I asked for it. I was charged an additional $ 2.50. Really? At least one refill should be expected from management’s point of view. Worse still — I was charged .25 cents each for cream. HUH??? As we paid I was too busy laughing at the absurdity of it all to complain. If something was printed on the menu(one cup only)(extra charge for cream) that would be one thing. But to tack small stuff on the bill is just tacky. It left a… bad taste in my mouth.

If you’re a local in Roslindale, then odds are you’ve been here and come here often. If you’re not a resident, then you should try this place out. The place has many tables and it’s a «seat yourself» kind of place. It is cash only, but many ATMS nearby. This place also serves lunch, but only being open until 3, I think they make their real money on breakfast. But I’m sure their lunch is still very good, too. I come here every Sunday for breakfast and it’s just great. The service is good, but if it gets busy, you may need to flag down your waitress, but even still — it’s a breakfast spot that does get busy. Earlier, the better is the key. This morning, a friend and I went around 9. We got our food in less than 10 minutes. Awesome. I always get scrambled eggs, bacon and the home fries. I wish I knew what they use for flavoring the home fries. They’re soft, a tad crispy and delicious. I usually omit the toast and either get a pancake or a Belgian waffle.(They won’t substitute, but that’s the ONLY con) The pancake is hot, fluffy and delicious. Usually powdered sugar on top, which entices the kiddies, which is always good. They have many options for pancakes but I go with the plain. Their waffles are hot and fresh plus crispy on the outside, and soft and oh so yummy on the inside and equally delicious. I’ve never had a bad meal here, or bad service. So if you’re hungry for breakfast, and are in «The Square,» come to Blue Star, it’s delicious!

I will be reviewing all their omelets. Today I had the Mediterranean, Cooked perfectly, Tasty! Coffee was decent, oj was store bought and pricy. I will be back. Clean pleasant atmosphere. No complaints, and for the record, I am a certified foodie, I’ll try everything. And I give honest, fair assessments. After 6 visits I’m still impressed and believe they should raise their prices. I’ve only eaten their breakfasts, but they are consistently fantastic.

My wife and I came in for post-farmers market lunch. This was just an awful experience. First the food. I had the chicken cutlet sandwich. Mechanically separated chicken patty with warm soggy lettuce… My wife’s spanakopita looked like it was out of a freezer and only half reheated; her sides were even more pitiful. The fries were the only acceptable food we were offered. The service. Our waitress disappeared after our food showed up. I spent about 20 minutes trying to get her to refill my water. By the time she came over, my wife was out of water as well. However, our waitress ignored the fact that there were two empty glasses, refilled mine, and simply walked away. Will not be coming back, ’nuff said.
