after reading a few reviews from others and seeing that they are no longer on Angie’s List… I wonder what will happen if i do contact them re: a few warranty issues. There were so many code violations that had to be corrected and they claim that they will cover any warranty issues for as long as we are in the home but my initial and ongoing concern is «what if they go out of business» and that seems more and more likely if it hasn’t already happened.
UPDATE: They did go out of business, as we expected, yet their reply to our first review has been allowed to stay up.

To make my story short, I contracted SHI to renovate my guest bath. Got a call from Mickey, the Sales Rep, telling me that they could do the renovation and be finished by Thanksgiving. I went to the SHI office on 10/​13/​2014 to sign the contract, gave my deposit, selected the granite, sink, cabinet, and cabinet paint color. SHI cashed the check deposit on 10/​14/​2014 in the amt. of $ 3078.90. Mickey defer the start date schedule to Emily. I was told that they will get back with me within 2 days. Have not heard back about a definitive start date until I followed up. Emily, the owner, responded and indicated that the thanksgiving completion is not doable; they could start the work on 12÷01÷14. I postponed the start date due to the holidays and told them to begin on 1÷05÷2015 instead. I had a meeting with Mickey, the Sales Rep and SHI staff to finalize the details of the project on 12÷02÷14. The other owner, MJ, is around but did not join the mtg. On 12÷09÷14 I received an email from Mickey letting me know that SHI has closed it’s doors and went bankrupt. Go figure… imagine IF i had not postponed it, I would have given them another payment and been left with an unfinished, torn down bathroom! I have not gotten my deposit back to date. I’m using every avenue there is to make sure I get my money back. Not sure IF they really file for bankruptcy.

I wish I could give zero stars. We just found out they filed bankruptcy. So even though they knew this was about to happen they were still trying to convince us to use them for a project and took our deposit money. No wonder they are bankrupt if this is how they do business.

During the quote phase with Mickey, the salesman, I was told via e-​mail «Our projects run typically right on the signed price. The only thing where you could have overages are on tile overages and cabinet accessories.» I specifically asked verbally, if, when they opened the walls, found extra work based on the layout behind it, would I get charged extra. The response was «no, we build it in.» So, I added extra work into the contract, instead of leaving a buffer for overages.
And so begins the downward spiral. Of course, halfway into the project, one of the owners, Emily, tells me that «they always tell clients to leave about 10% in the budget for things that come up» despite my very clear evidence that their salesman told me otherwise.
Everything from matching paint color, to leaving a mess outside of my house, adjusting my a/​c without asking, forgetting to ask design questions (tile spacing?!), disrespect for my house, miscommunications about work orders, etc. I will give them credit for doing the work quickly and being fairly decent about scheduling. Also, they have some very good employees: their electrician Sergio and one of their carpenters, Mario. Gabe, one of the tilers, was also pretty good. Chad, their project manager, always means well, but can’t seem to follow through on promises as he seems to be pulled in all different directions. Perhaps they are over booked? They also have some lazy and disrespectful employees, whom I won’t name.
Less than a year later, I’ve had numerous problems with the remodel and I’m just tired of trying to communicate with them. Sometimes I email with MJ, sometimes with Emily, but only Mike is available when I call. So I guess anything that any problems to be fixed will be on my own additional dime from here on out.

Stephanie M. I have no doubt that you are in the right. I left a long review on Angie’s list regarding my experience with them, Emily, in particular, and won’t go into it here. Suffice to say it took 9 months for a small job and it was done horribly. They blame the customer whenever they can. I am not suggesting some customers aren’t nuts, but I am suggesting that it can’t ALWAYS be the customer that is the problem. It seems to me that some people luck out and get the great crews and by some miracle the office stays on top of their project and others get the backup team. I am sorry you are going through this and I hope your permits get straightened out. The BBB is reviewing signatures rating-​not sure what will come from that, but it is something.

Thank goodness I canceled their appointment! They were doing a deal on a daily deal site for windows and I was tempted to purchase it. I called them and wanted an estimate 1^st… I had to leave work early to meet them there. I didn’t hear from anyone to confirm so I called them – and was told «we were just about to call you to reschedule” – HUH? What do you mean? What if I simply left work early and headed home — I guess they would have no showed. I was livid and complained so much about their lack of professional courtesy that I got a call from a manager the following day. He offered to reschedule it but I refused. I didn’t like how they handled things from the door and felt like they didn’t deserve the opportunity to earn my business.

I had the same experience with all the other reviewers. Lack of integrety, craftmanship, communicationand follow-​through. I was also continually lied to by the person in charge about my materials being ordered. My paint was ripped from walls and this was considered «normal». Our salseman sold it and then didn’t seem to really care about any issues or the things he promised not be true. What he sold was far, far from what we got. I ordered in July. It’s October and my kitchen still is not done. FYI– I have a very small kitchen.

Two representatives came to my house ($ 300,000+ home) and stood there as if they were disinterested in the job. They criticized other parts of the bathroom that we weren’t looking at remodeling and whined about how long it took them to drive to my house. Over two weeks later, they never called me back with the quote they were supposed to give me. One of them looked at me and advised me that they’re prices are «in the thousands» as if I couldn’t afford it. I never gave them a budget or idea of a price that I was looking at to remodel my shower. I contacted the company back today finally to speak with a manager who advised she would get back to me. I have yet to hear back from anyone. Apparently a couple in their 30’s with tattoos are incapable of paying for a nice walk-​in shower. I was very put off by this company and their lack of response as well as their customer service after I invited them in to my home. My husband and I work VERY hard for what we have, we are both public/​city employees and often come across people that are in need of recommendations. I would never recommend this company.

Signature has done 4 different projects for me and I have been completely satisfied with all of them from kitchen to bathroom remodels. The entire staff is very customer service oriented and clearly puts making the customer happy as their top priority. They call every day during a job to update you on progress and who is going to be out working on what aspect of the job the next day. I highly recommend them to anyone interested in remodeling their kitchen or bath.
