History

Established in 1990.

Jim Harris spent 7 years (1982 –1989) working in retail and wholesale jewelry. He spent time traveling to many areas of the world (Africa, Europe) to purchase both rough and cut Gems/Diamonds. In 1990, Jim started Harris Gems to help friends and clients with their jewelry needs, and for 27 years now has continued to grow his business in a most unique way. Harris Gems has no sign on their building, no advertising budget and somewhat embarrassingly, no truly functioning website. The belief is, provide each client with a great education, deliver a spectacular product, all at a great value, and the clients will find us.

Jim is first and foremost a great guy. He cares that you understand your decision and gives you a bunch of options that make sense after he teaches you. Never an ounce of pressure. He helped a friend and I with engagement rings. Before I went I had a quote from Zales and Jared. The price and the quality you get is far superior.
His process starts in his office by appointment only and it’s one on one (or more you can bring people).
Then he takes you through a crash course on diamonds and teaches you everything you need to know to make an informed decision on ceritfications, clarity, cut and color.
After that he pulls out a multitude of diamonds based on the price range you give him. You review all together and he explains the differences.
Once picked out he has a multitude of rings you can look at in person and hundreds more available to order from a book. A buddy I referred later he custom made the band for his fiancé.
Lastly you pick it up and he makes sure you are happy with it a few weeks later.

I was referred over to Jim from some of my co-workers. I used to work at Aerotek in Phoenix and a lot of senior account managers have purchased rings from him. He’s the real deal. It was a easy and smooth process going through Jim. He’ll walk you through the process and explain everything to you. Once he understand you and want you want, he’ll ask what you’re range. From there, he’ll put a beautiful ring together for you. Pretty straight forward review… if you are in the market to get married and looking for a ring, or get a nice piece of jewelry, give him a call. Great guy and I’m very impressed with the ring he provided to me. My lady was very happy.

I was referred to Jim by numerous co-workers. The first one-hour session he educates you on the process, the four C’s and picks your brain on what you like. He has great follow up. He is very honest and patient throughout the process. I met with him two more times before we found the perfect diamond. He was a very nice guy, not pushy at all, and very honest. Jim Harris is the best. Attention to detail, top service, getting exactly what you ask for without the run around. I shopped everywhere before going there and then never shopped again that is how easy and top shelf the service is at Harris Gems. I have went back for other pieces since my first purchase of my wife’s engagement ring (2 bands as well) and it is still as great as it was over 7 years ago. Custom and quality; Jim will make you look good without paying through the nose and he educates you so you understand!

Harris Gems is owned and run by Jim Harris. I first met Jim over a year ago when shopping for my own wedding band. He was recommended to me by a friend and I have been pleased with Jim’s level of service.
Note that Jim works out of his office by appointment only, so give him a call first and schedule some time to visit. I do like this process because it ensures you’re getting full attention unlike what can happen in a more traditional jewelry store.
I’m looking at the survey questions below this review that ask about price range. While you might think a private appointment jeweler is expensive, he really is not. It depends what you are buying and I felt like I got a fair price for what I was looking for, along with great service.
