Our specialty is Cabernet Sauvignon with more than six different Reserve and Single-​Vineyard Cabernets made each vintage. We produce many other Bordeaux varieties as well as Chardonnay and a rich Syrah from Stagecoach Vineyards.

History

Established in 1980.

Our property has a grape growing and winemaking heritage dating back to 1880. Sequoia Grove Winery was founded in 1980 and was quickly recognized as one of the top Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon producers. Our tasting room, the property’s original barn, has been standing strong for 110 years, and the Coastal Sequoias from which we take our name have also stood for more than a century. These serve as a daily reminder to us of the patience, commitment, and craft required to produce our world-​class wines. Visit us and discover an authentic expression of Napa Valley.

I grew up in Napa and spent a decade working at local Napa radio stations KVON and KVYN before transitioning to the wine industry. I started in a tasting room in St. Helena before moving to my role as Tasting Room Manager at Sequoia Grove Winery. During my nine-​year career at Sequoia Grove I have focused on relationship building as the cornerstone of creating an outstanding guest experience. In my current role, I am responsible for overseeing Sequoia Grove’s Tasting Room operations, leading a staff of ten employees, I also plan and manage special events and activities hosted at the winery, while also serving as a traveling ambassador for the brand. I was recognized by the Concierge Alliance of Napa and Sonoma (CANVAS) with an Excellence Award for hospitality. The Excellence Awards are bestowed annually and recognize those hospitality industry professionals who have taken the extra step to ensure that visitors to Northern California Wine Country enjoy positive and memorable experience.

Very cute winery with welcoming tasting room! There is also a garden outside with some tables and chairs. Excellent Sauvignon Blanc – favorite of this area! Also, give the Rebellious Red a try – you won’t be disappointed.

It’s a perfect low-​key afternoon. Great patio and unbelievable wines. I’ve tasted throughout the valley over the years and their cab franc, Chardonnay and Merlot are amazing. Bring a snack if you’d like! I love you don’t need a reservation you just need a great person or group to enjoy their space with!

Sequoia Grove is hands down among the best tasting experiences in Napa. The quality of the wines is quite good, prices are reasonable, and service was good. The tasting room is a little small, relative to neighbors, but don’t let that deter you. Angus is an awesome host.

Came for a wine tasting and left with 3 bottles! Love the friendly, intimate setting. Very personable and knowledgeable staff. I like that it was owned by brothers who eventually sold the business to sisters, but the brothers are still involved. Passionate wine makers that do this for the love and art of winemaking vs all business. We did the tasting with the aged wines and I fell in love with one of the Cabs! Will def be back. Don’t waste your time next door!

The wines are priced very reasonably and are VERY good. Stagecoach was so smooth.
All of the reserves were amazing. The 2013 Chardonnay was great (and I don’t like whites) and was very reasonably priced.
The inside has a rustic cabin type feel. I just wish they had a better ambiance. I don’t like tasting wines at a bar. I wish they had a seated tasting or the patio was open.
It was nice to find a spot with great wine that doesn’t try to charge you an arm and a leg.

This is the second time we have gone to this winery, and once again, it was a great experience! This time we came with some «new» friends and were immediately taken care of by Cait O’Connell ~ and had a wonderful time. Thanks for a fun time and we will be back! ;)

Wow what a place to enjoy great wine at a great price. They have a beautiful picnic area in huge redwood trees. They even allowed you to bring your own food in to snack on.

Ours was an end-​of-​day visit. Extraordinary in Napa terms, we didn’t need an appointment. And our adorable pourer was both entertaining and knowledgeable. Ms. Reza stayed with us until the doors were locked, bless her soul. But we still left empty handed. Besides, we had bought some pretty amazing stuff earlier in the day. Our tongues were already pleasantly tainted and admittedly on overload. That happens.
If we had come early in the day, perhaps it would have been a different story. But after a full day of wine tasting, it just wasn’t up to par. Good, but not drop dead wonderful. Hey, even those of us who are not wine aficionados (me) have limits.
On the plus side, this is a very pretty venue. Where else in wine country can you close your eyes and just for a moment imagine yourself in Mariposa County (aka Yosemite), land of sequoias. Maybe not the giant ones, but all the same, fragrant, healthy and statuesque. And the tasting was fun.
In comparison, I would have to give it a 3.49 stars. Don’t let my review deter you. You will not regret going.

What a gorgeous location! Who would’ve thought that right in the heart of wine country and acres of hilly vineyards is a secluded tasting room, enclosed with large Sequoia trees, a true grove!
The wine here was absolutely wonderful. If I had the money to buy a case of their $ 90 Cabernet (s) I would do so in a heart beat — it made me want to channel my inner Olivia Pope!
Definitely a cool place to bring out of town visitors who have certain expectations of the Napa County vineyards — something different for them, and be sure to point out the HUGE award winning pumpkin =)

I live in Sonoma County and am partial to Sonoma wineries. No doubt this is partly blind patriotism, but it goes deeper than that: my overall impression of Napa is ‘overcrowded, overpriced, and overblown’.
I was happy to find that Sequoia Grove proved that slanderous impression wrong.
The winery had an understated elegance. The tasting room is an attractive but non-​flashy wooden building. The namesake sequoias shade the pleasant patio. The staff was professional, friendly, and unpretentious. During the beautiful Sunday mid-​day I was there, the scene was laid-​back and pleasant.
Cab Sauvignon is their specialty, and ‘balance’ is their proclaimed ethos. Thus prompted, I of course searched for said balance while tasting, and did find particularly the higher-​end wines to be nicely subtle. Tannic, but not too. Acidic, but not too. Nothing overwhelmed the palate.
I was fortunate enough to experience the ‘Cabernet Culinary Challenge’, designed for groups of around a dozen. This was divided into two parts: first, an abbreviated version of their ‘Taste of Cabernet’ tasting; and second, a challenge to create the best combination of crostini toppings to pair with one of the cabs. This is framed as a way to test your understanding of how different flavors complement or detract from the wine, but beyond that is just a fun way to play with a bunch of nibbles and see what goes well together, wine or not. It was a fun experience.

We did the Culinary Challenge Wine Experience at Sequoia Grove Winery and it was awesome!
Dean, Sequoia Grove’s wine educator taught us a lot. I loved seeing how food enhances or ruins wine. I am going to bring this up with my professors in wine studies. They talk more about cleaning our palate but not how to taste with food so this was an education.
After learning about their wines and the five taste profiles that we experience (salt, sweet, bitter, sour and umami); they gave us grapes, a pinch of sea salt, and a piece of lemon to experience salt, sweet and sour (acid) with our wine. It was interesting which made the wine better and which made the wine worse.
Each team was assigned a job to make a crustini that worked with the wine. I won’t ruin it by telling you which you should pick, just do the culinary challenge and you will find out.
We also tasted some wines. I liked the 2012 Historic Vines the best myself, though the 2011 Stagecoach was yummy too.
They do a Taste for Cabernet (for up to 12 people) three times a day by appointment, which you can schedule online. If you want to do the Culinary Challenge, you have to give them a call at (707) 944‑2945 to make a reservation. They also do tastings in the tasting room without appointment.

We enjoyed the winery today as part of the Unilocal event there. First, we did an abridged version of the cabernet challenge where we got to taste 4 different cabernet sauvignon wines. I enjoyed was seeing how the different «tastes» (salty, sour and sweet) influenced how a single wine tasted. Theirs cabs were very well balanced.
The event was very pleasant set in the grounds among the grove of sequoias and the history of the winery is also interesting. I recommend lingering here to picnic or enjoy the beautiful grounds after tasting the excellent wine. We were lucky enough to be treated to a brief tour of the cellars.
The final part of the event was the crostini pairing competition with cab. The teams each were given a large platter with 20 different ingredients and asked to create a crostini that paired with the bottle of cab we had at the table. We had a good time, learned more about wine/​food pairing and found the activity a good ice breaker to get to know some of our fellow Unilocalers. I would recommend this activity as a good corporate team building activity or a fun outing for a large group of friends or family.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
– No reservation needed, and we were quickly helped by the staff to start our tasting
– You can take your glass of wine outside to the patio, where there’s LOTS of places to sit, along with a small fountain and canopy/​sequoia trees for shade on a hot summer day. Very relaxing to just chill with your friends without the rush of another glass of wine being poured in your cup!
– You can go back inside whenever you want to have your next tasting!
– $ 20 tasting fee, but if you buy a bottle (or 2, I forget) your tasting fee is waived!

I’m so glad we stopped in at Sequoia Grove on a whim! It’s nestled between some of the larger names, partially hidden by some beautiful sequoia trees. The cabs were really good! They also have some beautiful, hand-​painted bottles.

Awesome place! We really loved Vikki who helped us. She was super sweet and helpful. This place was a little more quiet which was a nice contrast from some of the other tasting rooms.
There was a $ 20 and a $ 30 tasting fee. I can’t remember which one we did but it was waived if you bought three bottles of wine. The wine was affordable, starting around $ 20 and going up to $ 100+. They were also generous with the pours. They had some good 2008 and 2009 cabs and other really neat library wines from vines that have been on the estate since Napa was on the map.
We tasted most of the wines inside at the tasting counter and then took the last glass to walk around the grounds. Really relaxing and enjoyable. Cheers!

This was one of the four wineries we visited in Napa.
Sequoia Grove is absolutely an amazing spot to have a picnic. With a huge sequoia tree right in front of their entrance to the tasting room, sets for a cute little picturesque setting with a nice little mini patio for us to enjoy a bottle of their Chardonnay.
And we sure did!
So buttery and smooth, perfect to wash down our mid day meal.
The ladies behind the counter were pleasant and helpful. The grounds were well kept and maintained. It felt like a cozy spot inside of a huge fortress.
So tranquil and peaceful.
