Cal Expo RV Park

We stayed for two nights in December. It was conveniently located for us near family. It seemed safe and secure. Staff was friendly. The WiFi worked for us; it wasn’t stellar speed but it was adequate. We didn’t use the showers or laundry. We used the over-​the-​air TV signals without issue. The site for our large coach was located in the northern gravel lot which seems to slant ever so slightly downward from south to north. We were able to level the coach even with our limited system. We had no issues entering or exiting the park with tow attached. It would have been nice if there was a playground. We will use this park again in the future.

There is an adult park in the area that we usually stay at. However, this trip I wanted very easy access to the American River bike trail right from the RV. This park has that. Check in was fast and easy (my wife loved Mabel the cat). The first area of paved sites slopes too much for my comfort so we opted for the gravel area in the back. How much your jacks have to level you at gravel sites has a lot to do with how much previous rigs have disrupted it, but our site was dead on. Power pedestal was located at a very convenient location for our 37′ Class A. I pulled right in, dinghy still attached, everything right where I wanted it. This isn’t a park where one sits outside & enjoys the view. The aforementioned, very popular, multi-​use trail however, is right here. (Users should check TripAdvisor first. I will suggest that, for safety sake, upon reaching the actual trail, you only proceed to the left, not the right.) A boatload of eateries are an easy drive away. Chick-​Fil-​A & Cheesecake Factory are just two we patronized. Many very nice parks have periodic issues with bike theft in Ca. Expo now has night time security to address this. Propane is available for delivery to your site. Newspapers can be purchased by the office. There is no store associated with park, but you are in the middle of a big city, not the Sierra. Places abound where supplies can be found. Provided Internet was rather inconsistent. Your GPS will likely take you to the fairgrounds, not the RV park. Suggest you use the address 1010 Hurley. If arriving via Ethan Way, go straight as you approach the address. If on Hurley, turn left at the address.

RV parks near Sacramento??? What I look for is SAFETY, convenience and amenities. Having looked at other parks, we opted for Cal Expo RV Park. The location is easy to get to. Listed as being on Exposition Blvd on some sites but you make a right on Ethan Way off of Exposition. Ethan way takes you straight to the park. The park is very safe. Yes, a few homeless use the bike path running along the waterway behind the park but haven’t had any problems at all. We did see several bicyclists, families and some runners. The dog park can use some lighting but is a secure park with gated entry. There is also a big gravel lot that is a part of the park where I saw a lot of larger RV’s. Very clean and easy to maneuver. We stayed on the paved lot. Clean, private bathrooms with shower. I would definitely stay here again. The Expo is active so plenty to do, just check online for events. We don’t have children so this park is ideal for our needs.

This is a decent place to stay.
The curb appeal is poor, the WiFi works most of the time, the employees are helpfull, but there is a lot of noise from the freeway.
It is 5 – 10 minutes drive to most anywhere you would want to go in Sacramento and there are only 3 RV parks near downtown.

Just a parking lot with hook ups. The back lot looks like the gravel lots that you used to see in drive-​in movies.
Very friendly and helpful staff. A good place to spend a night or two if you are here for a short time. Not a bad value at $ 35 for full hookups.

Cal Expo RV park does not pretend to be anything other than what it is… a place to park your RV and sleep in a secure environment that can accommodate any size rig.
The back lot where all the big rigs go is just a gravel parking lot. You have all your hookups and plenty of room for your rig and toad. There laundry room was older but the machines were clean and maintained. They had showers and bathrooms with coded locks available if you needed them.
We needed a place to stay for a month while getting some inspections and work done on our RV… Cal Expo fit the bill because it was centrally located and it’s monthly rate was very reasonable. They had no problem with us taking our rig in and out and even abandoning the space for a few days while work was being done on our rig… this was very convenient.
There are a lot of restaurants in the area as well as theaters right down the street.
The bad… the neighborhood gets rough after dark. Constant sirens throughout the night… homeless going by the entrance to the park and using the water faucets right by the entrance… I never saw them come any further and we walked a lot.
The place could go from packed to empty in an eyeblink… so it could be crazy quiet one night and a little noisy the next. It also sits right next to the Cal Expo harness racing track… so on race nights you get to listen to the races… I did not think that was bad… kinda neat actually.
You have freeway noise and train noise and if Cal Expo is having an event, then a lot of traffic noise as well.
It all comes down to your expectations… if you want a resort, then go somewhere else. If you need a secure place to stay for a very reasonable price in the Sacramento area, then Cal Expo will probably work for you.

Stayed overnight before taking our coach in for a repair at Happy Daze, as it was close by and the only place we could find in Sacramento! This is a convenient place to camp if you just need a night or two or are attending the Cal Expo, but don’t plan on staying here for a vacation — it’s essentially a parking lot that serves a purpose but reasonably priced, convenient and the camp hosts are very nice and helpful and friendly (Connie, Henri). Would stay again for a purpose, not a vacation.

Would not stay here again for more than overnight. Large gravel lot with many spaces but they force everyone together in a row. No privacy or extra room. Have always parked my tow vehicle in the empty space next door if it was available. They came and told me to move it or be forced to pay $ 30.00 a day for the space.
Internet works for 5 minutes and then drops off. Tried for three days to connect my Jefa-​Tech internet repeater with no luck. Complained at the office and was told it was being looked at. It needs to be fixed, not stared at.
No outbound mail service.
Unfortunatly they are the only game in town and they know it.
We saw the skunks but they thankfully decided not to bother us.
The next time we come up here to visit family we will drive up and stay in a hotel.

WiFi signal is decent, even in the back lot. Slow connection, but better connectivity than most RV places and faster speed than Tengo. I would stay here again, but not for longer than a few days.
The cons: It’s a parking lot. On weekends, you can see the racetrack lights in the back lot. Laundry room is small and only has dryer with heat. Family of skunks live over the levee and like to visit at night.
The pros: Conveniently located, safe, (security drives through park several times a night), and an excellent, fenced-​in dog run. Only permanent residents are the hosts. Decent location with the American River Bike Trail within walking distance and a few good restaurants nearby.

Clean, nice staff, but no wifi! They say they do but you have to be next or in the main building.

If you need a place to stay with hook-​up and you aren’t staying long, this will probaby be okay. There isn’t much to choose from in Sacramento anyway insofar as RV parks go. Concrete pads, a few trees. Showers were kinda clean but could be cleaner — take yours early as they do run out of hot water. There is alot to do in the vicinity, the locaiton of the park is great.
