Like a magpie, I am attracted to small, shiny things. And Ology makes me very happy just wandering around and looking at all the marvelous things nature has to offer. It’s just a bunch of rocks, you say. Oh, but look at the architectural wonders that are laid out in front of you like treasures. So many colors in the rocks and minerals, unusual shapes, and the realization that these pieces are sometimes centuries old is quite amazing.

If you are a collector of, or have an interest in rocks & minerals, this is a fun place to explore for beautiful & unusual geological specimens! This is one of my favorite stores in Old Sac. and whenever we visit old town, Joe and I always end up at this long time established business.
I like to imagine myself wandering through this place as if it were a beautiful garden or flower shop, but with displays of colorful crystals, rocks, minerals, fossils & semiprecious stones. Everything catches my eye and beckons closer study. This is a great place to test your knowledge of geology & mineralogy (hence the store’s name). The owner is very knowledgeable on every aspect of his merchandise.
Ology re-​inspired my past rock collecting interest as a child. Now I often look for unique items to decorate my home & backyard. Some items can be expensive, but I’m sure well worth it. Remember, it’s not easy to maintain a shop in Old Sac. Besides rock displays, you’ll find a limited variety of New Age & metaphysical items too. This is a great place to go if you make jewelry or just like to collect. Or bring the kids/​students for a Geology lesson. Decorating & craft ideas can be endless for the imaginative at this wonderful store!
Every time I come here, I can’t help but purchase something to add to my rock collection. But that’s just me, a rock hound!

I have been a loyal client to Ology for years, I have spent thousands of dollars and supported this small local business well (even though every time I come in they never remember me). Today is the first day I’ve brought my children who are 3 and 5 (we had just came from the train museum). It was about 11:30 am on a Friday morning so no one was in the store (which is rare) so I decided to give my kids a shot in the store. They were being extremely well behaved, and I could see both of them from where I was standing. My daughter was standing near the front door, then the woman steps out from her chair, as I’m about to check out she says, «You’re more worried about stones then your child.» I didn’t say a word left my tray picked up kids and left. Didn’t realize YOU COULD BUY STONES HERE AND HAVE YOUR PARENTING SKILLS JUDGED BY TOTAL OBLIVIOUS, STRANGERS. ONE STOP SHOP GUYS! I will never return and look forward to them closing.

My sis and I both have been into jewelry making lately! When she picked me up from the airport I looked up places in Sacramento & this little gem (no pun intended) popped up. We didn’t know what to expect from a shop in the middle of old town Sacramento (a notoriously touristy place) it’s AMAZING! Family owned & operated for 20+ years this shop was truly a gem finders paradise. The only reason it’s not getting 5 stars is because there was SO many boxes of rocks & crystals just piled that I wished were organized better so I could see them all. But I understand, years in the same spot & stuff piles up. Also they are open EVERY day. I don’t know how they keep it as organized as it is but I’d love to get in there sometime & open all the boxes! happy hunting to any fellow crystal/​gem/​rock/​mineral fans out there.

This store is reasonably priced! A little crowded and warm but the crystal selection and the knowledge of the owner made up for it! Love it that I can ask him the healing benefits of some of the stones and he can tell me right away!!!

I love ology. I’m not sure of the owner’s name but he is very sweet and knowledgeable. Whenever I ask what’s that he has an answer for me. Sometimes he throws in an item or rounds down to the nearest whole dollar. I love all the stones I have picked up here. All high quality. I have to stop myself from going every other day, because the specimens in his shop are beautiful.

Lots of stones. Probably too many for the space. Kind of a homey feel in this place. NOT a tourist trap kind of experience. But it will be my go to place for rocks, crystals and other related stuff.
The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful.

First time being there today. There is just stuff everywhere! Crammed is a slight understatement. So it’s hard to look at everything, walk around/​past people. Kind of pricey I thought. For tiny rocks, it was 50 cents– $ 1. My total was 19 $ for about 18 tiny rocks and an ankle bracelet.
Owners were so, so. The man was nicer than the wife.
I may or may not be back. I’m going to search for somewhere with more selection, since they didn’t have everything I was searching for.

I wanted some tumbled stones for my reiki practice & I must say Ology didn’t disappoint! This place has everything! Polished and not, big & small, incense, sage etc. I really appreciated the labels that explained the property & names of each stone. It’s very cramped so leave the big purses & kids at home.

Love this shop, my friend Lola showed me this store when I was asking her where I could get crystals around town. I’ve always been happy with the crystals I’ve bought from here. I use crystals for healing purposes. There is a wide variety of rocks and I even brought my fiancé, who has a family of miners and rock collectors. He was impressed by the wide selection and inventory.

First off, I would disregard user «Lisa S.» review, as she inspired me to write mine it was so absurd…
These folks at Ology are very down to earth, patient, helpful people. I found this store on a busy Saturday in Old Sac, & though it was packed, I had all my questions answered… oh & no one was being yelled at.
The inventory is astonishing! They could easily stock a store top to bottom 10x as big. Check out their more refined pieces behind glass, they’re gorgeous & reasonably priced.
…By the way «LISA S.»: In the year 2014, you’ll notice we don’t use religion, i.e. «Jew» as an insult; so along these lines, please think before you negatively refer to people as «witches» — especially when you’re reviewing a *metaphysical* store.

What assholes– the stinky owner and his mean wife. Apparently they are trolls and dislike children. I have seen them on numerous times yell at people’s children when the parent was watching them. This time they yelled at my child when she was with me and helping me select my purchase. If my kid was doing something wrong, I would correct her, but she wasn’t. I told them to keep their shit and the wife said «we don’t need your money anyways.» What foul creatures! Go next door to Garden of Enchantment!!!

Big up the rock shops! Come check out Ology in old sac for your children and extended family or find something shiny for yourself.
I’m a big mineral collector, so this store is right up my alley. They have a wide array of products, from incense and coins to crystal carvings, stones and minerals of all price points. I recently dropped by for some rocks and fossils for my budding rockhound nephew. He loved the fossilized tooth I got him and I found a great deal with a dozen fossils with info cards for 20 bucks. I’ll parcel those out over the next couple years.
While service can be lackluster, just ask and they are happy to assist. Don’t be afraid to ask for what you are looking for, as there are many hidden treasures in the boxes. It can be a bit crowded, but the display boxes are well lit and showcase the best. Good prices make this a great place to buy.
Ology has everything you could want in the counter-​cultural, paleontological and geologic things.

This store has tons of amazing rocks, minerals, stones, incense and sage. I enjoyed pouring through the different boxes and looking at all of them. I wasn’t able to buy anything but I would definitely come back if ever in the area again.

«Jesus Christ Marie! They’re not rocks! They’re MINERALS!» — It’s rumored that Hank Schrader ordered his from here (possible exaggeration).
And buckets full. Every kind I could think of and about a hundred more. My daughter likes the place for its polished stones and small crystals — just right for her jewelry projects.
And just think… for about the price of a Starbucks latte, you can jam a small ziplock bag full of million-​year-​old tiny treasures.
Service is knowledgeable, and if you show some interest, you can get lots of tips on things you’d never knew existed. Like, rocks really do grow. Guess I could have paid more attention in science.
If you’ve got a half hour to kill in Old Sac, this is a no brainer. And, if you get a chance, check out the huge agates in the display window.
Tip: make sure you’re legally parked and watch the timer. Barracudas, those Old Sac meter maids.

Came in again and bought 2 Shungite Tumble Stones, 4 Pyrite Tumble Stones, 4 Black Obsidians, 1 Dalmatian Jaspar Ring, 1 Adventurine Wand Pendant and 1 Adventurine Ring. The people that work there a married couple were extremely nice.
They helped me out with the right pendants and also telling me little stories of people who buy Shungite.
Now thats the thing. Sometimes I cannot wait to buy stuff online. I need to just go in person and get it now. If youre looking for Shungite… this store has it.

This place is amazing. It is stuffed full of rocks, stones, incense, sage, Zen figurines, earrings, pendants, etc. It’s a small store with a lot of merchandise all piled inside so it’s a little adventure going into to see what catches your eye. I find new things every visit.
The owner is very knowledgeable about each rock and their properties. I went in w my son who wanted a pendant for «joy» and within seconds after asking we had three beautiful stones and pendants to choose from. This guy and this shop is the real deal.
Definitely worth a trip at least once a month.
