Parrot Planet specializes in loving hand fed baby birds at a reasonable price. We do this by giving each and every bird the individualized attention it needs to be a loving member of your family. Our babies are weaned on to home made and fresh fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes and high quality pellet and seed mix. Some of our babies talk even before being weaned, we believe that spending a lot of quality time with our babies is very important. We are committed to responsible parrot ownership. Our associates and owner’s combined have over 150 years of experience living and working with Parrots. We are also very passionate about educating our customers and friends on the proper care and enrichment for their beloved feathered friends.

History

Established in 2013.

Parrot Planet evolved from the parrot rescue service, The Wing Foundation (thew​ing​foun​da​tion​.org). Dana Strome, a passionate parrot lover & parrot advocate is a founder of both services.

Over a period of 20 years she has rescued and re-​homed over 800 parrots at her sole expense, with no re-​homing fees required. Dana saw that too often parrots were sold with little to no regard for either their or their human counterparts compatibility, welfare or environment. This often contributed to many of the parrots ultimately having to find new homes.

From this came a call to action resulting in:

* Advocating «The Parrot Bill of Rights»

* Exclusion of certain parrots for sale

* The evolution of a new breed of bird retail venue — Parrot Planet

Very friendly staff and you don’t feel any pressure from them if you are there just to visit the birds. I appreciate their willingness to please when my GF asked if they had a bird seed she wanted and wasn’t out front the lady said if they had it it would be out front but will check in back to make sure and let us know she ordered it and when it will be in.

I am very new to Unilocal and now I find it very useful to a get preview of restaurants and shops etc!!! Therefore, when I find something extraordinary good or bad I feel compelled to share. My story: I inherited a Goffin’s Cockatoo, Chaka, and he will be willed to my daughter. Due to their longevity having a cockatoo or parrot is rather humbling and also a great joy once you connect with them. While on vacation in California, a friend, a cockatiel gal, brought me to Parrot Planet to see their extremely rare Black Palm Cockatoo. Wow! what a collection of beautiful exotic birds! We met the owners, Dana and Peter, and they could not be more accommodating. Being relatively new to the world of birds, I had a dozen or so questions and Boy! did I ever come to the right place! Dana and Peter are not only extremely knowledgeable, they took the time to share their knowledge with me. It became very apparent to me that they were not just business people out to make a buck selling birds and bird stuff, they have a genuine passionate love for their birds and their business of sharing this love with others. In our conversation I learned that they had this passion long before they were in the business. They, through their «Wing Foundation», have rescued hundreds of parrots for over 15 years and placed them in good homes with little or no compensation other than the personal satisfaction of having saved a bird. So basically an altruistic passion became a labor of love, hence the Parrot Planet! I highly recommend for any bird lover in the Sacramento area to make this your go-​to-​place. However, for me that’s the down side, I and Chaka are in Chicago!

I went here while visiting Sacramento. It was Friday afternoon and the owners were away getting supplies (which for many businesses is where problems occur), but the staff was committed and very helpful showing me about the place. In a little while the owners arrived and their clear passion for their work was evident. They have a great selection and were great helping the wary kids and adults who were new to exotic birds.
I could have stayed their longer but was tired and had to crash.

I love Parrot Planet! I can’t believe how many toys they had! My parrot Lucas will be very happy when I come home and give him treats and toys! It also seemed like a clean and healthy environment for the birds they have. Staff was friendly and we chatted about Lucas for a while. I was definitely like a kid in a candy store! I am actually visiting from out of town… but I wish I could take this store home with me!

Had an awesome experience today. My Jardine’s Parrot Yasha got his nail trimming, beak treatment and a bath. Very friendly environment with a lot of new happy baby parrots and a huge toys selection.
P. S. Yasha is 6months old now and is a very friendly and social bird. I am so glad I got my bird, cage and accessories from the parrot planet.

I had boarded my cockatiel here for a week. I brought along my bird cage and cover. A week later I came to pick up my bird and they claim they misplaced the cover and would try to find it. I went back a few days later and the help there said managers were still looking for it. I left my name and number and asked manager to call me back. I waited 2 weeks for a call back. None. I called again the staff person said they were still looking for it. I said the manager needs to call me back one way or another. I NEVER received a call back. Terrible and very UNPROFESSIONAL customer service. They could have just admitted they lost it and gave me some sort of store credit or replacement. Instead they wimped out and received this terrible review which they deserve. I will give them credit for quality bird food. That’s it.

Update: I was emailed by parrot planet and am very happy with their response! If they cannot find the DNA test they would like to re-​do it for free and we can pick out a toy for or lorikeet. I’m very happy they have responded!
FINAL UPDATE: someone left a voicemail and informed me they had already Told me the gender. Now, I have a call list on my phone. I have not once gotten an incoming call from this store in the past 3 months, so that is a complete lie. Anyways she ends the call with «it’s a boy, so there.» Again, they still lied to me the 3 times I called. They had the results, I called and asked for them, and instead of checking their records I was ALWAYS told they just mailed mine out.
Because of the result being found I did not go back into the store. I use to get my bird’s trimmings and food here, but I feel like they need to take a good hard work at their staff. I do not know if I will return. They just aren’t nice and hard working people.

Parrot planet
Visited on Sunday had a bad experience– brought my Ringneck in to have wings clipped (first time at this store for this service.) The staff let him out of the carrier onto her shoulder. Being in a new environment and somewhat nervous he flew off (cuz he needed his wings clipped!!!) and flew right into the front window!!! I guess I should be glad he didn’t fly right out the front door, which was only a few feet away from where he landed. How irresponsible can the staff be? Clipping wings should not be done on the front counter which is directly in front of the door that is being consistently opened!!! After my poor bird fell to the ground after slamming his head into the window the girl didn’t even apologize. I think I’d rather pay a little more and take my birds into The Bird Shop where nails and wings are done inside a safe and separate room!!! The staff there may not be as friendly, but they are professional and I can be sure my bird is not put into danger! I emailed the owner after this happened and never even received a response!

I am very disappointed in this place. I was going to get an African Grey from the bird shop and they talked me into getting one from them with perks. I took my baby girl in today and the perks are gone. That wasn’t the deal. You may change your policy but you don’t go back on your word with a customer. It’s just not good business. Where is the integrity??? Where I come from you stand by your word. That’s three things that happened with these guys. First they over charged me and made me use store credit, they hesitated on giving me the store credit and now the lifetime nails and wings that I was promised I was charged for. It’s not the fee. It’s the principle.

How do I describe parrot planet? That’s a difficult one you see parrot planet is like a second home to me. I’ve gotten to know the people there and the wide range of personalities that come with them. Everybody there is friendly and accommodating to your needs and questions. I have learned more from the owners and employees there about birds that I think I have ever in any other one place in my life. I have adopted several birds from parrot planet and I have to tell you that all of them have change my life for the better. I have referred friends there in the past and will continue to refer friends there for all of their bird needs. I hope the parrot planet continues to succeed and grow in the way that it has their absolutely amazing when it comes to customer service, rescues, fostering, and adoptions. It’s my opinion that parrot planet is above and beyond when it comes to helping bird owners and their birds. Thank you so much to all of those a parrot planet. Love you guys.

Love love love this place!!! Very helpful and knowledgeable staff helped us find our newest family member Cosmo! I am from Monterey Bay and but we drive the 4 hours to Parrot Planet because they are the best! Great selection of toys and supplies and food and prices better than anything you’ll find online. Super fun just to hang out and play with the birds too!

We were in Sacramento on business. The ‘pet friendly’ hotel was for dogs only so we took our little Pionus parrot to the Parrot Planet for a few nights and visited her during the day. We loved the friendly atmosphere and learned a lot from Dana, Peter, Steven and Francesca. Great people! We hope to be successfully smuggling birds into hotels from here, but will stop by to purchase things and support this business and bird rescue.

MOST Beautiful Bird shop I’ve ever been in. Owners are very friendly. They have most of the birds out which is socially healthy. Owners truly love birds, unfortunately due to a experience with a younger associate I had to knock it down to a 3 stars. His customer service skills need work.

When I walked in I was never even merely greated by the staff. This one girl was too busy walking around the store chatting with two other boys to even ask me if I needed anything. They acted a bit snobby when I asked about a certain breed of bird I was looking for or didn’t even give me ANY information on to any of their other birds or ask me any questions on what I was looking for. One of the workers (maybe the owner, I dont know) was walking around texting not talking to anyone. I was followed around by this other man who just looked at me, again not talking to me, greeting me, or whatever. I felt like more of a nuisance than a customer. I will be finding another business to go to…

I adore this place!!! the owners and staff are so nice and knowledgeable… oh the things you will learn there! its wonderful to walk in the store to uncaged, well behaved birds that you are encouraged to interact with. If you are considering a bird for a pet-​this is the place to start… the toy selection is huge and reasonably priced (although no price too high for our babies!!!)and they are adding more supplies for making your own bird toys .Food for your bird is available pre-​packaged and in bins so your choice of how much to buy, and many quality brands to choose from.
Obviously, the owners are complete parrot heads-​they love what they do… it sure shows. Even if you don’t own a bird, this is definitely a place to check out. thank you, parrot planet!

Such a great place and really friendly people (and birds)! We adopted a Yellow-​Thighed Caique from them in October and he’s incredible. They did a great job keeping him sweet and recommended some wonderful food to mix with his pellets. Love coming here and spending hours, playing with the birds. They are all so happy!
