I had to compliment this restaurant and their excellent service! My friend and I went here last night for dinner. Service was PERFECT. Didn’t catch her name but she was friendly, sweet and willing to go over the menu without being annoyed. I ordered the catfish and the grilled prawns with the greens and macaroni and cheese. WOW! I felt like I was in New Orleans enjoying a nice southern meal. The food flavors were ONPOINT. My friend ordered the snapper, grilled prawns, and potato salad/green beans. Thank you Sandra Dees! Will be back SOON to enjoy our next«cheat day meal«. Oh ps. The peach cobbler was to die for. So sweet.

My first thoughts here was that this place would just be the hype and wouldn’t be as good as people said it would be. However I was wrong, this place is definitely a must try if you’re in the Sacramento area! The flavors were on point and everything I ordered did not disappoint. As an appetizer I ordered the calamari and fried oysters. This was the best calamari and fried oysters I have ever tried hands down. The calamari had the right spices due to the added cayenne seasoning and the texture was just great. It was really crispy and had an amazing crunch to it. I love how the pieces weren’t too big and it wasn’t just the calamari rings, it was other parts of the squid too like the legs. The sauce for the calamari was a great addition, however ask for ranch too because the calamari tastes great with that as well! As for the oysters, they were super crispy! It was maybe a hint crispier than the calamari. The flavors were so good due to the breading of the oyster. The sauce they gave you for the oyster was tarter sauce. The only negative thing I can say about it is that the oysters were a bit small but nonetheless it was still delicious. It’s a southern place and what else is there to try with a southern place other than chicken and waffles?! They killed the chicken and waffles! The chicken was breaded nicely and was paired great with the waffle. Get the red velvet waffle because hello!!! REDVELVET!!! I’m definitely super happy that I found a great chicken and waffles place because Roscoe’s is just a little to far for me and Sandra Dee’s is definitely almost if not better than Roscoe’s! With the amazing service and amazing food this place definitely deserves a 5 star rating! You won’t be disappointed!

This place does not even deserve one star. I had a terrible experience tonight, we had come here looking that it was 4 stars, and made a mistake. The server was not friendly and took forever to get our food. Someone who had arrived after and ordered after us received their food before. When our food finally came out(BBQ Hamburger with added cheese) and we were as disappointed as we were in the«Sweet tea» that was overpriced and not sweet at all. My food was cold when it came out, I bit into the macaroni and cheese and it tasted like it had been sitting out for 15 minutes. The cheese that was EXTRA $ 1.50 for my burger, was KRAFT american cheese that you can buy a huge pack for the plastic wrapped ones for .88 cents @ Walmart. They had no other cheeses to choose from. I don’t understand how you can charge extra 3 dollars to us for a Kraft single that’s not even real cheese, I would’ve brought my own GOOD, REAL cheese from home. I’m never coming back here again and give this place 0 stars. Sorry but you are not Barbeque or soul food. Popeyes chicken fast food would have been a better choice… We’re so disappointed :(This place is a rip off

Best MAC N’ CHEESE I’ve ever consumed in my life! I had her chicken wings perfectly seasoned and fried, not really a greens person but hers were like drugs, you could not stop eating it! Can’t wait to try more of her delicious entrees.

Chicken wings!!! I love their chicken wings, it’s perfectly seasoned. My second favorite is the tri tips, I get them mild and ask for the hot sauce on the side. Whenever I come here for dinner I usually get the four item deal, I get chicken wings, tri tip, pork ribs, and something new that I haven’t tried yet. The deal comes with two large sides or four medium sides, I usually choose the four medium sides which are mac & cheese, corn, rice & beans, and hush puppies or something different. I can’t remember our waitress’ name, but she’s really nice and helpful.

Appearance: When you walk in there is a nice casual bar to the left, and ahead is all the main seating. I did not find any hygienic discrepancies that made me think twice. My friend and I walked to the table to only find it, well, clean. You will find all sorts of people here; I saw a family with babies, a family with kids, old ladies, young ladies, old men, young men, you get it… Aroma: No funky smells, nothing awkward, just a clean smell if it isn’t the waitress/waiter walking with a dish. Taste: The wait wasn’t too long, which made my quite ecstatic. I ordered red velvet waffles, and fried gator. I am not going to lie, I loved my dishes to death. Fried gator is just an upgraded version of chicken FYI. Gator meat should be the real staple of the United States, why isn’t it? The red velvet waffles were very balanced. I was expecting something overly sweet like other dishes made out of red velvet. With the waffles they give you a bottle of maple syrup(house made possibly?) nonetheless the syrup was good. The fried gator was balanced as well. The ratio between fried batter and actual meat was perfect. Menu: I can’t say too much. To be honest just come here, and get the red velvet waffles with fried gator. Based off of other reviews red velvet waffles are the way to go. Customer Service: The customer service was great, and the waitress we had definitely knew the menu, and was able to talk extensively about them when we gave her our questions. Overall: I didn’t spend too much time exploring the menu or multiple dishes, but I was satisfied with what I ordered so I would expect their dishes to be above average as well. Would I go to this place again? Yes.

Can’t believe I never reviewed Sandra Dees! I absolutely love their food here. I always get the combo that includes 2 different meats and usually choose ribs and fried chicken! While it seems kinda pricey at first, there is actually a ton of food and I can barely finish half! Their spicy corn is DELICIOUS as a side. The ribs are juicy and so so tender. Flavor is perfect. The fried chicken is also very crispy and has a nice cajun seasoning on top! Service is always very friendly also. no complaints whatsoever!

I tried this place for the first time tonight in the hopes of spending a much needed easy«night in» with take out and movies. I hail from the South and, while I’m no expert, I think I have a fair understanding of what soul food and southern cuisine should taste like. Now living in CA, I don’t expect many restaurants to get it perfectly right. Every place has its own interpretation and I often approach new places with optimism and an open mind. Unfortunately, I cannot say what I received this evening was southern or soul food. If anything, it lacked soul and, most importantly, flavor. I ordered the two meat combo with two sides: ribs and chicken for the meats, and macaroni and cheese and sweet and spicy corn for the sides. In addition, I ordered the catfish, just in case the other entrees didn’t measure up. The ribs and chicken were both dry. Even with the excessive amount of barbecue sauce dumped on top of both, it lacked any real flavor. After a couple of bites of both, I gave up and moved to the fish. The catfish was battered and over fried and lacked any flavor. I honestly think I’ve had better at Long John’s Silver :(. Again, after a bite, I gave up and moved on to the sides with higher hopes. I was disappointed. The macaroni and cheese was creamy but flavorless. I’ve never turned away macaroni and cheese… until today. The cornbread that came with the entrees seemed mushy and from a box. The only saving grace from this sad meal was from the sweet and spicy corn, which wasn’t really spicy but did have a small hint of peppery flavor. That was the only item I finished. Needless to say, my planned«night in» ended with me venturing out in search of better food. Lesson learned, in the future, I’ll get off my lazy bum and go to South or Tank House for my barbecue/southern fix.

I knew I was going home(Sac Town), for my birthday. I also knew I wanted to eat good for my celebratory cheat day. When asked where I wanted to dine, I promptly looked at Unilocal Sacramento, with 4⁄5 stars and a plethora of reviews and pictures, I chose Sandra Dee’s Barbeque & Seafood. I was not disappointed… It was a beautiful day, Sacramentans walked the alphabetical streets. I ogled over potential spots to visit, We laughed as my mom points to the venue I graduated from along with the rest of the high schools in Sac. As we made the left turn on F street, nestled on the corner of 15th street about downtown Sacramento is this gem. My eyes lit up as I stared at the building! Portraits artistically adorn the establishments skeleton. Each portrait pays tribute to historical, influential artists/trailblazers/and rebels, some gone too soon. The artwork made me smile even bigger. We wasted NOTIME exiting the car. Why, because according to the parking sign, we had only 2 hours to dine. Thanks Sac. I enter the establishment, and I am instantly drawn to the framed pictures, after wowing, oohing celebrities locally and nationally. I realized we all had that one thing in common. The food. We were either raised on, or had a jones for some good olé fashioned soul food. Being Texas bama, I was raised on southern food. Ha! We were greeted and seated quickly. Beautiful, intimate crowd. I enjoyed the ambiance, not too bright not too dark. The beautiful, tall young lady took our orders nicely, patiently and quickly. Our stomachs appreciated that. Another server approached the table, it was like anticipating Mayweather’s theatrical entrances to the ring. I was secretly excited. I was having a Sandra Dee’s experience. The lights above us were meant to showcase the food. The server sets the food down, my eyes, and my nose are teleported to childhood. The smell, the visual creaminess of the mac n cheese, the greenest green beans, the well seasoned cat fish, the prawns succulent and juicy, that beautiful burgundy barbeque sauce perfectly applied glistened on the chicken. The corn bread muffin, it was just right. I almost«hit the dab» after tasting the sweet potato pie. Google it. I was happy. My family was happy, and quiet, we let our taste buds do the talking as we sampled each others side dishes. NOTHING we ate was over seasoned or salty, it was PERFECT. NOW…let’s talk drinks shall we. I don’t know who the barkeep was… I wasn’t happy with my first drink. Which tasted like Pink lemonade Kool-Aid, so, I ordered the Margarita… strike two. The smell of the alcohol was so pungent, and strong, it automatically made me do the Harlem shake. I didn’t make a stink, I just let the ice and my straw do it’s job of calming the drink down, which even then tasted like alcohol water. Crept up on me later that night, and sent me to bed. I contemplated another plate, opted out, and promised my return. After the plates cleared, we realized we have been dining over two hours!!! Me Mum made it better with her fifty dollar parking ticket story. It’s time to go! Got to the car, NOFIFTYDOLLARTICKET for THIS Birthday Girl! I recommend you having a Sandra Dee’s experience! It can be pricey, but you are paying for goodness. After our fantastic meal. Me Mum surprised me again. Newly located next door to Macy*s was the Sacramento King’s Arena. Under construction. My family and I stood there in awe of this, titanium spaceship looking arena. I am proud of the progress my hometown is making. I gotta say it was a good day.

Very mediocre BBQ. Poor service as well. I just came in today around 12:15 The girl and the guy looked like they hated their lives. At least fake it. I’ve worked in food service for several years, and I wore a smile when both of my grandmothers died, so you can muster up some fake customer service. I picked up to go and I don’t think I will come back ever. It’s like everything is so close to being awesome but there’s something that makes it take a wrong turn. Disappointing. The macaroni and cheese looks rich and delicious but it tastes exactly like over-cooked noodles with velveeta cheese. The barbecue sauce is pretty good, it is awkwardly thin though. Chicken wings were well-seasoned and not too greasy, so I will give them that. Their tri-tip was so so so disappointing. That’s what I was looking forward to. It was ICECOLD, like pulled out of the damn refrigerator. It was dry, started to turn into jerky pretty much. The hush puppies were cold and stale. This isn’t me being pretentious– because of course, when you pick up to-go then the food cools down, but no no, this was just gross before I even paid for my meal. It was opened within 10 minutes of the server handing it off to me and it was terrible. The star is for the pie. Their sweet potato pie is delicious. The texture is perfect and it’s simple, not overly done.

Ordered 3 entrees and a whole chicken, they were skimpy on the cornbread that was supposed to come with the entrée(wasnt great anyway) il recommend the greens, red beans and string beans. Rib tips had a bunch of fat. If you like more fried batter, try the oysters. Btw a small whole chicken. Haven’t tried the fried chicken, but for what i seen of the ribs from eating guests, pretty skimpy. For 69 bucks its edible but not great. Can’t please em all

First time here and it’s . Parking is ample nearby and staff is super alert + friendly. Our waitress was quick, funny, ready to help, and always checking in on us. The food and drinks are delicious. We had a tri-tip and gumbo entrée, both of which were so delicious we ate past the point of being full. Fatty status here I come. Definitely would recommend

I think this place is overrated. I expected to have my mind blown by how delicious the food would be, but instead I was just content. The search for unbelievable southern bbq still continues. I’m not saying Sandra Dee’s is bad, but it’s just not as good as what some of the reviews say it is. However, those fried chicken wings are delicious! Sandra Dee’s seriously knows how to make some chicken wings. The breading was just enough crunch but not too much to take away from the flavor of the chicken. The meat inside was nice and juicy. And there was just a hint of spice to make your lips tingle in a good way. Take my advice and skip the chicken and waffles. The waffles are mediocre at best. They were room temperature and soggy. Side note if you come for drinks they do give you a side of crispy bacon.

I finally tried Sandra Dee’s after hearing so many good things about it! I went in yesterday with very high hopes; they weren’t crushed, per-se, but my expectations weren’t met. There isn’t anything fundamentally wrong with this bbq joint, but it could be executed better. I ordered a 2-combo plate with two sides plus cornbread. I chose the pork ribs and fried prawns for the combo and Mac & cheese and greens for the the sides. The ribs made me so sad. I love ribs. The ribs were pretty dry and had so much muscle and other strange tendon-like stuff; not much meat on the actual ribs. Plus, they were too dry. The bbq sauce was bomb though. The prawns were battered and fried and were very good. The greens were killer and had small pieces of meat mixed in to give them a smoky flavor. The Mac & cheese was meh. The service was great and helpful and the food came out in a timely manner. My only complaints were the food. I’ll have to continue my search for the best bbq place in sac because this wasn’t it.

Good food but if you order for event from catering be VERY careful. I spent over $ 350.00 this weekend and was shorted ¾ of a pound of tri tip. We had to BBQ more to make up what they shorted us. I called and left a voice mail — no response. I sent e-mail to them — no response. Very sad that they can’t own up to what they did. And we have used them in the past for other events. So needless to say, good food, BAD service for catering events, but leaves a bad taste in my mouth so we will not go back and I will tell everyone not to eat there. May not make a difference, but so be it.

I’ve been coming here sporadically over the last 7+ years. After about a 2 year hiatus, I decided to return and ordered some take-out. I couldn’t pinpoint exactly why it took me so long to return, until I dug in… I get it now. I ordered the 3 item combo with chicken wings, rib tips, and the tri-tip. For sides, I got the spicy corn and the mac n cheese. It came out to about $ 21. I thoroughly enjoyed the mac n cheese, but everything else was amiss. I used to LOVE their spicy corn, but it wasn’t anything special this time. The rib tips & tri tip was on the dry side and the chicken wings lacked flavor. I probably ate 1⁄5th of what I ordered, and debated whether to toss the rest. Overall, I was pretty disappointed and questioned my decision to return here. I’ve dined here in the past multiple times and service was always pretty slow. I’m sure there are better BBQ joints in the area, but this isn’t one of them.

Order: two entrée plate w/catfish, chicken, greens, corn bread, and hugh puppies, soda water w/lime. Pros: hands down the best friend chicken I have ever had in my entire life. Period. End of discussion. This fried chicken might be reason enough to move to Sacramento. Catfish and hush puppies were solid as well. Greens had a big kick to them(hope you like your greens spicy!). Amazing service at the bar and great environment. Cons: I can’t eat that fried chicken everyday without gaining a ton of weight :(

It’s been quite some time since I’ve been here. Went here about 2 – 3 years ago when I was working downtown and it was amazing. I remember the wings and ribs were just about the closest thing to heaven. Unfortunately at this recent visit i wasn’t so «blown away». Service itself was great, the waitresses did take their time to refill our waters and get us all the essentials we needed to feast. I’m only rating this place as a 3 star because there’s no 3.5 star option. Food was only okay this time around. The tri tip was dry as can be, I felt like I was eating beef jerky. Ribs were cold but still had an amazing fall off the bone goodness which I can’t complain about. Catfish was just mediocre, I’ve definitely had better from this place. But the most disappointing thing were the wings. I remember them being piping hot, crispy, perfect amount of seasoning and juicy. This time around it was just crunchy. It lacked so much flavor and that made me a bit depressed. Hopefully it was just one bad night but most likely won’t be coming back… Oops I almost forgot! Though the main entrees weren’t at it’s best, the sides were amazing! The spicy corn, the hush puppies and Mac n cheese! To die for!

I was so excited to stop by the place after an engagement at the community theatre close by. I was craving good southern eats something fierce. When I walked in I was surprised at how dark the restaurant was. Once we sat at our table it seemed a bit lighter than the bar area. The waitress came over right away and took our drink orders. I opted of their signature sweet tea. When it arrived, after a bit of a delay, it tasted like an Arnold Palmer. There was more of a bitter lemonade flavor than a sweetened tea flavor to it. I decided maybe that was a fluke and shifted my excitement to my entrée. I opted for the two meat combo — ribs and tri tip. Most of the sides said they were spicy so I went with fries and green beans. The meal arrived and looked delicious. My first bite was the green beans. Not what I expected. It tasted like they were cooked in a vat of sugar. I’d guess all the sugar that was not in my sweet tea. Shifting my focus to the meat I dug into the ribs. So much fat. The flavor wasn’t worth navigating through all the fat. Ok… next side — fries. Soggy fries are not for me. These had a bit of a crisp on the outside but unfortunately were quite soggy inside. Back to the meat. Tri tip as meat #2. The saving grace! The tri tip was delicious. The sauce was nice but not overpowering. It complimented the meat without overshadowing it. The cornbread muffin was nothing to write home about. The truly outstanding item was the tri tip. Without that this may have barely managed 2 stars but that tri tip gives this 3 stars. The service was ok but when it came time to get the check we had to ask several people before getting any response. I will not be returning and will continue to search for southern cuisine elsewhere.

This is a great bbq place, one of the two or three best in Northern Cal. But on this visit I had fried chicken. Not ideal — it wasn’t cooked to order and got a little dry — it nevertheless had the kind of light dusty tangy coating you expect on fried seafood, not at all greasy and very good. I also really like the sides here, especially the equally tangy corn.

Can I just start off by saying THANKYOUFELLOW UnilocalERS! During my trip up here in Sacramento you all have pointed me in the right direction for places to dine! But this place was hands down our favorite place to end an amazing trip! Now to start my review here in particular. Don’t let the pricing frighten you because the portion you get is enough for two meals even though I embarrassed myself and ate the entire plate! I ordered a 2 entrée with the fried chicken and brisket. It was so tender and the chicken so crispy and delicious! The sides were just as delicious, I ordered potato salad and Mac and cheese with cornbread. We even had the pleasure to meet Sandra while she was there doing work, even had the pleasure to talk to her just before we left. She was friendly, happy, and you can just tell how proud she is of her food. It’s good to see people be so passionate, and being able to taste that in the food! Ps the sweet tea is yummmmm! Get some!

No, Unilocal.Just no. Two stars for the food and an attempt to make things right. We ordered for takeout and made the mistake of trusting that our bags were complete. Full rack of beef ribs, 2 appetizers, 2 sides, and 3 cornbread muffins, but half of our order was missing. We called and asked to come back for our missing sides and cornbread muffins… he upgraded the size of our sides from large to jumbo, but forgot the cornbread muffins again. At this point, I gave up and learned my lesson… a wall of celebrity guests, 15 years of business, 1000+ reviews, none of it matters until you walk in on a day like this.

Red velvet waffles with fried chicken. That’s all you gotta order. And unless you are dying of hunger, the one waffle 3 wing deal for 10 dollars is filling and a great amount for its price. The only reason I put 4 stars is because I felt really gross and full after eating and actually whilst I am writing this review right now, but I have to say the deliciousness of everything is worth it. I also got to try the spicy corn side which was delicious. A little spicy for me but it should be fine if you like spicy stuff. Definitely would come here again, just order less food next time.

Attended a show at Music Circus and this was one of the closest places to the theater/parking garage that include a 10% discount with show tickets. It was also already 45 minutes to showtime so we wanted something fast for dinner. Seated immediately, less than 5 minutes until a server came by. Didn’t realize it was Tuesday all you can eat rib-tips entrée night — we caught the start of the Warriors game and were a little sad we couldn’t stay long. Boyfriend ordered the BBQ tri-tip sandwich with fries, I got the Creole seasoned catfish sandwich with greens. Had the same experience as Heidi H. wrote in her review(no bones though, that might just be the red snapper), hungry me getting by on ice water until the food came out — server had«rushed» our order since we said we were catching the show. The sandwich was a sad, sad, joke. Big letdown. Two slices of wheat sandwich bread cut into triangles, only two six-inch pieces of fried catfish, a lemon slice, tartar sauce, and the greens. I ended up putting one piece of fish between two triangles with tartar sauce and lemon and scarfing it down, following suit with the remaining«sandwich» fixings. I will admit the fish itself was seasoned well and flavorful, I was just wanting more. The bread wasn’t even toasted or anything. The greens were a mix of collards and mustard slow cooked with smoked turkey, my main issue was that they were SPICY! I couldn’t even finish half of the container and ended up stealing some fries from J.‘s plate. His tri-tip sandwich was also lacking, meaning he had to drown it in Louisiana hot sauce. I was trying to be good by ordering«fish» and«veggies» but if I knew it was going to be like that I would have gotten the BBQ chopped pork which EXPLICITLY states on the menu comes on a French roll, and beans. For better soul food I might give the Porch another try. Server brought the wrong check to our table, then the correct bill came but I’m not sure if the 10% discount was reflected. We were in a hurry anyway, and the meal wasn’t that satisfying for the price.

Great place to go for BBQ. Not the best but it’s the best in the Sacramento area. Wednesday’s are all-you-can-eat rib tips. Some favorites here are the fried wing thing and the deep fried pork chop. I love the spread that goes with the deep fried pork chop. It has a bit of a kick and I usually keep going back for more despite the heat. I love their Mac and cheese as well as their corn bread muffins. Eat entrée comes with a corn bread muffin and two sides. The servers here are great, especially Ger. they are very friendly and efficient. The only reason I give this place four stars is the fact that parking can be hard to find the wait for a table can get long. I believe there aren’t any reservations so it can get frustrating with the wait. Other than that, I love going to this place. Definitely breaking out the tums to help the heart burn but great food!

This place is ONPOINT if you’re trying to get your soul food fix or some comfort food. I NOWKNOWWHYTHEYCALLITCOMFORTFOOD!!! Came around 745 and it was still packed and busy. The wait was suppose to be 45 mins but grabbing a beer and just chatting it up made it feel like it was only a ten min wait! From the looks of it right when you walk in, there’s tons of famous celebrities that visit this spot when they’re in Sac. Came with the FamBam for the first time. They have this option where you can either order the 2 item combo for $ 16, 3 item combo $ 19, or 4 for like $ 27.(I’d recommend going with the 3 items since it’s the most cost efficient; but then again it depends if you’re tryna eat you’re feelings away ;)) THese combo comes with TWO sides too so don’t forget that! I ended up ordering the he 3 item combo; chicken wanggggss and red snapper from the Deep fried menu, and BBQ pork ribs. Sides were Mac and cheese and the hush puppies! Omg, I just can’t get over how damn good the wings are with its golden crisp and perfectly battered amount. The red snapper was the same too, but, it had a few bones in it so you had to be careful!(The servers warn you so it’s a good thing!) The BBQ tri tip was alright for me. Reason being is that they drizzled a little too much BBQ sauce which in turn made it too sweet. Mac and cheese. THICK, RICH, and CREAMMY. The funny thing is that they gave me BBQ tri tip instead(but then I didn’t want to ask them to take it back since I couldn’t wait to dig in) Luckily, either they decided to feel nice and not charge one of the combos at the end or they just totally forgot. So it ended up being cheaper than it was suppose to :) otherwise, I think this review would’ve been different ;) lol.
