Folk musical instrument shop offering sales of guitars, banjos, mandolins, Ukuleles, violins, auto harps, accordions, concertinas, hand percussion, books and accessories. Lessons, rentals and repairs
This great little shop has been around for decades. It’s always been THE place in St. Louis for acoustic and folk instruments. In the last month I took an 1890’s SS Stewart banjo in to have the tuners replaced. They did a great job. I couldn’t be happier. Thanks to Colin, Andy, Don and all the rest of the staff.

I had a great experience here when I was back home in St. Louis recently. I had a concert and had an issue with my electric acoustic guitar not sending any sound. I explained that I had a show the following day and they made it a priority to get right on checking my guitar and addressing the issue. Very reasonably priced too. Thanks, guys!

Parking is kind of a hassle, unless you know there is a lot around back. Inside there is a good selection of used and new instruments… mainly string instruments… stuff you’d fine in a folk band… hence the name. A whole wall is dedicated to guitars. There is a section for banjos, violins, cellos & basses, and much more. We were left alone to try out the instruments ourselves but an attendant was always nearby to answer questions. It’s a cool little spot for those that are into music.

If you are looking for anything music this is your place. I do personal shopping for a person and they always have everything that he needs. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. I have been to this store three times. The place is always busy. I love to walk around the store and look at all of the instruments hanging on the wall. This is a pretty cool place…

I have been going to music folk for over 10 years, the staff is friendly and helpful, the selection of acoustic guitars and other stringed instruments is large and their prices are more than competitive. I bought an acoustic electric guitar there a few years ago and still love it. The advice they gave me while trying out different models was extremely thoughtful and I ended with a great buy. I regularly go there to have them string my guitar, the charge is minimal and not much more than the cost of the new strings.(And while they’re stringing I can play around with all the amazing guitars on the walls.) Go there if you are looking for a guitar, banjo, mandolin, dulcimer or other similar stringed instruments. Just a great group of people.

Really, the ONLY place it St. Louis to buy an acoustic guitar. The staff is always friendly and patient, and they have some great instruments.

A very nice guitar and stringed instrument store. But not the best place to go if you’re looking for wind instruments or accessories. Went in looking for a very standard trumpet and trombone practice book called Arban’s which most any professional brass player has used. They had never heard of it and could not find it in their catalog, which was surprising since i then found it in about ten seconds on Amazon and purchased it in twenty(pity since I’d rather support a local music store). Still looking for a good wind instrument store in the St. Louis area…

Wandered in here when looking for a Nylon Acoustic Guitar, and really glad I went in. They had a pretty good selection of items, but the Repair kits and things of that nature — but selection in town(I felt like)! For sure going back when I need some guitar items.

The best guitar I’ve ever had came from Music Folk. A couple of years ago, I picked up a beautiful Art and Lutherie folk guitar here. Yeah, not the best known brand in the world. It’s a little company from Canada. They make quality, decently priced guitars. The people that work there are knowledgeable and not jerks, which is a combo that is sometimes hard to find at a music store. They’ll let you test out as many things as you want and take forever making decisions. After all, you might be dropping quite a bit of money and want to make sure you’re getting something you’re going to love. They have a wide range of new and used acoustic instruments, ranging from concertinas and ukuleles to more obscure instruments from foreign lands. The price range is pretty big too. It’s equally good for a beginner who just wants to learn to play something, to a professional musician. They also offer lessons, so if you’ve always dreamed of learning how to play something, you might be in luck.

I’m not a musician but I used to work at Webster University’s multicultural center down the street. Every year the organization hosts an event where international students show off their talents. One year a student had this long string instrument, but less than an hour before her performance she realized she was lacking special finger pieces to help her play. She tried fashioning some out of pieces of plastic cutlery but it just wasn’t happening. Convinced she wouldn’t be able to play, we decided at the last minute to see if Music Folk would have anything like she needed. They had EXACTLY what she needed, and it was super cheap too. The employees were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Music Folk saved the day(and the music)!

Saturday, 2 pm. Exhausted, our hero needs to unwind from a long week of fighting evil. He needs to commune with fellow musicians in a nuturing environment. A warm, sensual spot with a woody aroma and the mellifluous sound of string instruments… «Aha!» Music Folk is a great spot with«real music» and«real folk». If you need an acoustic instrument, they’ll hook you up. They also act as a cultural center with classes and concerts. Our hero saw Pete Huttlinger there and was amazed the place wasn’t completely packed… Note: haven’t had an instrument serviced there but I suspect they are terrific
