Stratton’s Cafe

They have a very nice menu with something for everyone: soups, salads, wraps, sandwiches, fries, chips and baked goods. The food is all very good. They also have coffees, tea and hot coco. However, what truly matters the most is that they have a beautiful, decedent selection of gelato! You can get it in a cup, a shake or even a power smoothie! Yum!
The place was very clean and comfy. The people working there were great.
We could’t pick up wi-​fi, which seemed kinda odd; that could have just been a fluke the evening we visited.

Straight up yummy. No chaser needed. Every single menu item I try, I love. You will not leave hungry. The Mayan Mocha with extra espresso is flippin’ amazin’. The staff is very efficient and willing to engage in friendly conversation when there is a short lull amidst the usual hustle and bustle atmosphere. In addition to all of this loveliness, this café has the best gelato in town. Made in-​house, the gelato alone is worth a trip to Stratton’s café. You won’t be disappointed. If you do find disappointment, shame on you for not finding pleasure in the small things that do go right. Until next time, my lovelies. Smile and Enjoy. Life’s too short for anything else.

I finally was able to make it to Strattons — enjoyed the breakfast and love the area. I was treated very well and enjoyed conversation with some of the staff.

I’ll start by saying I go here strictly based on convince. It is close, I can pick up food to go and be on my way with the kiddos I nanny. I say this because the food really isn’t anything special. I’ve had an array of items on the menu and I’ve realized your safest bet is just to get the burger, by far the best, most consistent item on the menu in my experience. I’ve had the Caesar wrap, chicken tenders, quesadilla, soup, sweet potato fries, you name it and it’s all mediocre. The service is meh. I get to-​go orders and something is missing when I get home every time. I check the bag, because we always have a large order, I’ll ask «is our fruit in here» and they will say yes and we get home and there’s no fruit or no fries or we’re missing a salad. But, regardless, I know I’ll go back, probably this week, and endure this again. *sigh

My husband and I live close and noticed this place on a walk, so we walked here and tried breakfast. The place is clean and the menu features a lot of standard breakfast fare. I ordered eggs, toast, and bacon with coffee and he ordered six egg whites and four pieces of toast. The coffee is Kaldis, so it was great.
Food came up fairly quickly, and both orders were correct. My eggs were scrambled very hard (fully brown and crusty) in spots and my husbands meal was $ 13 for just egg whites and toast. It’s a decent and convenient breakfast place, but nothing special. We will probably come back, but definitely will not special order next time.

Many years ago, when I was looking for a job, I applied at this restaurant; I never got a reply. I decided that I would never go there for any reason whatsoever. That was so many years ago that I don’t remember how long it was. Times change and I mellowed.
I was on my way to a place in Kirkwood and changed my mind because I thought it was too far away just for lunch. I stopped in Webster. Along Big Bend, there are nice little places to stop and eat, so today on a whim, I stopped in Webster and walked over to Stratton’s Café. I ordered a half BLT sandwich and a bowl of soup which I was told was tomato basil.
My order was ready quickly. I picked it up and went to my table. The sandwich had a rather anemic looking tomato slices, curly leaf lettuce and crispy bacon with mayo on a slice of rye bread like what you would buy at the grocery store. The tomato basil soup had small pieces of pasta and limp ravioli in it. I thought it would be tomato soup not tomato pasta ravioli soup. It tasted good but was different that what I thought it would be.
The customers seemed to be a combination of «the Ladies who lunch,» area workers on their lunch breaks, and Webster college students.

Hey, I really wanted to like Strattons. It was so close to my apartment, they have a diverse menu, they have gelato (!), and when it wasn’t busy, it was a great place to study in their comfy booths. However, after being fed up with the staff’s unfriendliness, I completely stopped going. The food isn’t great enough to outweigh the poor service.

Visiting from Texas, this place was an awesome stop on the road. Great food, great people.

Not very good at all. Over-​priced considering the portion sizes. It was $ 2.09 for literally a scoop of their hash brown casserole & $ 5.19 for 2 biscuits with sausage gravy. The hash brown casserole was decent, but definitely not worth the $ for less than 3 oz of a side dish. The B&G was terrible, very runny, sausage tasted as if it was a bit soured & no amount of seasoning (salt, pepper, etc.) could help it taste better. Sorry Stratton’s, you just lost our business (6 – 8 people every other Sunday) to Boardwalk or Southwest Café.

I’ve had my ups and downs of experiences here at Strattons. The staff used to be pretty unfriendly, but I think they’ve lightened up. The food quality is consistent, and I prefer it over say, Bread Co. Sometimes this place is way too crowded though, but hey, that’s a good thing for them. As trivial as it may be, my biggest complaint is the lack of outlets available to customers. :)

I expected this to be more of a down home café but once I walked in a realized it was just another corporate café. My advice is to not make paying customers drink water out of cups made for children. Ridiculous. Oh, and to get adequate vents because the entire place was filled with smoke making it unbearable to even finish my meal. The food was average for the price & I’d dine here again just because the location is lovely.

Ordered the egg with salsa wrap. As far as breakfast burritos go, this one was like that Ben Affleck and J. Lo movie, Gigli, you haven’t seen it, you could watch it, but you realize ANYthing else is better. Seeing as I never send food back unless it’s completely undercooked or salted to hell, I drown it in two sides of salsa and serve my duty as a good patron by keeping my negativity to myself (until now).
The staff was friendly enough and the space was small but never crowded. Not sure if this is because all of Webster Groves is unimpressed or the entire population is busy trying to simultaneously shove themselves into the Bread Co off Allen and Lockwood. It’s like 10 people to a 1 bread loaf in there. Ridiculous.
I digress, I’m willing to give them another shot in the future. Maybe when I have no where else to go.

Well I had expected Stratton’s to have more of a small business feel, but you walk in and instantly feel like you are in a corporate chain. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it wasn’t what I was looking for. Plenty of seating options and impeccably clean. The menu selections are plentiful but not overwhelming. Order up front and pick up your options when they call your name. Very reasonably priced.
I had the egg white scramble with turkey and spinach with wheat toast on the side. Satisfying but certainly not something to come back for. My dining companion had a burrito which he inhaled and really enjoyed. Overall a decent breakfast, but nothing super special.

This is a nice little place to have a good breakfast. The service is great. Careful though, it can get pretty crowded!

Aside from the cold blast of air on your legs when the door opens, I love this comfy café with big windows overlooking Big Bend and Old Orchard. Healthy choices, bottomless Kaldis coffee, relatively quiet ambiance. Made from scratch gelato and create your own scramble.

Quick service, tables set like a QSR good, healthy food. It’s not really under $ 10 unless you order a la carte and not a platter/​meal. I loved that the turkey sausage is round and meaty and not little thin slices and that the toast was nicely buttered. I just didn’t like that my eggs were so watery. I understand they are egg whites but let the water drain a bit… I had the egg white spinach and feta with turkey sausage and wheat toast. and even though the eggs had lots of water after sitting for a bit they were delicious!

We had breakfast on a Sunday morning. When we arrived, all of the tables, both inside and outside, were full and about 12 people were waiting for a table to open up.
We got in line and placed our order and we were fortunate to get a table before our food was ready. I had the turkey sausage scramble with wheat toast. The serving size was larger than I was expecting and everything tasted wonderful.
I saw some other patrons bus their own tables before they left so we did the same. When we left about 20% of the tables were empty so you just need to time it well to get a seat right away.
The only possible con I will mention is the cramped quarters you will be eating in. People will be walking and possible standing right next to you as you eat and you will be sharing your conversation with the tables next to you. I didn’t mind that so much as it gave the feeling of a real busy diner. It was a fun atmosphere with lots of hustle and bustle.

This place would have earned a solid 4 stars because my chicken caesar grilled wrap was really, really good (right down to the crunchy croutons so I knew it hadn’t been pre-​made and sitting around for hours getting soggy).
However, the fruit cup I had as a side had MOLD all through it. And not just a speck here and there on the sides — it was connecting all the grapes and strawberries together and had penetrated down into the pineapple chunks, too. I pitched the whole container.
I picked up my lunch and took it to-​go so I couldn’t go up to the counter and get another one. I know the restaurant would have taken care of me had I been in the store still when I found the mold, so I will be returning to Stratton’s at some point for lunch/​breakfast because I really did enjoy my meal. But from now on, check those fruit cups!

I have never been so pleasantly surprised and disappointed at the same time as I was here a Stratton’s Café. The food was great, but this counter service and busing your own tables sucked. It was so disappointing, that it cost you a star.
I will admit I am at fault for not reading the reviews closer. I quickly looked at the star ratings and pictures posted by friends and hopped in the car. When I arrived, I had prince parking right outside the front door, I was ready for a great breakfast. When I walked in the door shortly after 7 AM, I was shocked to see that it was order at the counter and more shocked to see that I had to go fetch my order just like at the Bread Co.
I’ll break it down in to Pros and Cons. Let me begin with the cons, so I can end this review on a positive note.
CONS:
1. No table service, you order at the counter and have to pick up your own food.
2. When you are finished eating it is like eating at home, you bus and clean your own table. You scrape the leftover food in to the trash, separate the dishes, silverware and baskets.
3. Plates are placed inside big bulky black plastic baskets, taking up more room on the tables.
4. They serve Kaldi’s coffee.
PROS:
1. The food was seasoned well, they did not overly salt anything. I who normally does not add salt to anything gave some of my food a dash.
2. Good Biscuit and Gravy, worthy of being on my list. Don’t think the biscuits are made from scratch, but the sausage gravy was excellent.
3. Offered an Egg White Scramble with Spinach and Feta Cheese, that was very yummy.
5. Prepared Over-​Easy Eggs, correctly. Buttermilk pancakes were okay, big in size, but lacked flavor.
6. Hashbrown Casserole was cheesy and tasty.
This could easily been a 4 Star Review if they offered table service. Doing half the work myself cheapened my breakfast. When I pay $ 30 for two people to enjoy breakfast I want to be served and not treated as if I am dining at a fast food place.
Food was good, but not having table service to match the prices, I will breakfast else where.

1^st time visitor, at first impression it reminded me of Panera Bread in the way it was set-​up, but upon reading the full menu… it’s a Panera Plus! You name it, they have it. Breakfast options all day, Salads, Soups, Cold Sandwiches and Hot Sandwiches. I am very amazed at the variety of food they offer and I’m looking forward to future visits just to try out more.
This visit I had the Southwestern Chicken Wrap. Chunks of Chicken and Veggies with Pepperjack cheese and beans. It was quite large and very good. I had fries instead of the chips and salsa. The fries weren’t standout, but there were hot and good. I thought the price was comparable to the amount of food. This is more of a fast casual restaurant, so when dining in, you are served on actual china vs plastic or paper wrapping. Nice job Stratton’s!

My breakfast here was just fine. Stellar? No. But it did fill me up on a morning when I was much hungrier than usual. When I found out one of my favorite local breakfast spots wasn’t serving more than baked goods in the morning anymore (tear), Stratton’s was the closest choice. Saw that it had a Unilocal check-​in deal and figured it was cool enough to check out!
I was surprised to see that it’s an order-​at-​the-​counter place but that didn’t make me sad by any means. I went with the feta, spinach, tomato and egg white scramble with a side of wheat toast. It was ready in just a few minutes, and it came out HOT with a pretty healthy portion! I also got a cup of coffee which was pretty darn good. The food was good… nothing that spectacular, but it did fill me up and the spinach tasted very fresh which I appreciated. The toast was just regular wheat toast, but with jam options aplenty, I was pretty happy. My breakfast kept me full for quite a while.
The free wi-​fi rocks, but there were a couple negatives… first off, it was really hot. That being said, I’m pretty sure St. Louis is melting one day at a time, so they might be doing the best they can with the AC. The only other thing was that there were a ton of flies… so gross. We kept waving them away the whole time we were eating. Talk about unappetizing!
I would be open to coming here again, but I’m not a huge fan of the vibe. It was kind of sterile and quiet, and that combined with the heat and semi-​cramped tables makes me hesitant to make it a regular spot. That being said, I appreciate that this place can give me a healthy breakfast for an affordable price!
