The Lofts at The Highlands

We have lived here for almost 2 years and have been very satisfied. This is a great location with dinner nice green space in front. We live in a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom loft. The kitchen has new appliances. There are washers/​dryers in the unit. The deck is big enough to have a grill. The management is very approachable and attentive. Any call I had regarding a problem with the apartment was addressed quickly. Overall, very happy to live here

A friend of mine lives here and I stayed for the weekend. The location is practical — right off the highway. There are a few bars and restaurants nearby — most notably Jimmy John’s and The Highlander. He had a 3 bedroom 2 bath. But since they are lofts, it’s really more like a master bed/​bath and two more open rooms because the walls for the other bedrooms do not extend to the ceiling. I am not really sure why that would be considered a thing. It’s completely stupid and not at all private if you had roommates.
The apartment is definitely spacious and modern enough. Washer/​dryer, dishwasher, floor to ceiling windows in the living/​dining room area, a nice kitchen, lots of storage and the building itself is nice. However, it can be really nosey. You can hear the pipes and the doors slam to the units. I wouldn’t recommend it if you are sensitive to noise or have kids or dogs. If you’re a college student or a young couple, that might be best.
They have plenty of parking, a nice gym, an enclosed hot tub and some grills for the warmer months. It’s nice enough. I did not have to deal with management, but my friend used to live here before and came back to the same complex. So clearly he liked it and did not have any issues like the others in their reviews.

I am so confused by the negative reviews about The Lofts. I have found the management to be courteous, professional and accomodating. Additionally, the building is VERY quiet, very clean and I have not had any issues whatsoever. The roofdeck and common space is always kept clean and everyone in the building who I have come across have ALWAYS been pleasant. I would strongly recommend The Lofts to anyone looking for a great place to live that is in a very convenient location!

Nice exterior of the grounds. Nice gym of world class. No pool. Next to forest park college. Next to highlander pub and grill. Far from most things and attractions by foot. Was going to lease from their. but found a larger and better price per square foot back downtown. Hate downtown tho. Management was nice when i was in on showing. Alittle to formal attire. Apartment was large but a hallway in the beginning. The kitchen was too tiny and bedroom was big. They sjowed me a loft with demolished wood. At a high price in missourri their should be no tarnished or broken feautures

The only thing about «luxury» that applies to the Lofts is the physical appearance of the apartments. The construction is clearly well under par with no sound proofing used in the walls. Noise constantly bleeds through the walls and sounds from the hallway sound as if they originated inside the apartment. The heating/​cooling systems seem to run constantly since the walls also fail to insulate the temperature in an apartment causing enormous heating/​cooling bills. The worst part is the incompetence of the management. The head manager is usually absent or unreachable and is the only one who can make decisions. Trying to move out was difficult to say the least. The lofts require a full 60 days notice before moving out along with a signed declaration of that intent. Since paperwork is not handled well by the management, this is useless. Even handing paperwork to the head manager (or signing paperwork in front of her) does not ensure that it will, in fact, be «received» by the management. All in all, the high cost of rent that comes with a «luxury» apartment is utterly wasted renting from the Lofts.

While this property does look decent on the exterior, it is run by completely incompetent management. The management is irresponsible, does not return calls and is deceptive in their business practice. Look up the BBB (Better Business Bureau) report for Riverstone Residential based out of WA state. That’s the company that’s hired to manage Lofts at the Highlands.
Some other things I can recall off the top of my head.
The faulty fire alarm goes off every few weeks, resulting in building wide evacuation.
The elevators are poorly maintained and are often out of service, a major pain if you live in the upper floors.
The trash chute backs up regularly causing odor all around the hallway.
Quite a few cars have been broken into. Security guard is a joke.
Hold on to the hand rails during the winter time, because they do not care about clearing out any of the ice built up in the entrance and common walkways. I’ve seen no less than 5 incidents where a resident has slipped on the icy walkways. Not that I like to stand outside to watch for these things in the middle of the winter…
I can go on…
I would look else where in St. Louis. Your options are endless at this price range.
