Dr. Chocolate’s Chocolate Chateau

THE Chocolate Château is not closed, it is just opened Friday-​Sunday, and is also still opened to private events! It still has an amazing chocolate selection as well as, great staff who answer all questions! I love this beautiful Location and hope to one day have my wedding here!

Not a fan of dark chocolate, until today, the ecuador was awesome. The price however is ridiculous, 5 bite sized chocolates for 15 bucks total? No thank you! Get a 10 dollar Godiva box, it tastes better than most here. The selection was dry. I didn’t eat there but I think it is a great place to stop in, especially if family or friends are visiting.

Me and my boyfriend stopped by here to get some chocolate it was like 7 pm and there was nothing in the cases which didn’t look appealing at all we did get 2 pieces of chocolate equaling to $ 5 and the chocolate size was like a penny size. Tasted good but to be honest godiva is better. I like the building the old school feel creepy cracks the historic neighborhood but that’s it I wouldn’t go again.

Worst service of my life. Went in for mother’s day chocolates, waited in a line that didn’t seem to move (very likely due to the grandiose stories the owner seemed to need to tell during a very busy time), and when it was our turn they skipped us for a group that just walked in. When we voiced our concern the cashier and owner said we were wrong and ignored us. Walked out without making a purchase. Haven’t been back and don’t intend to.

The variety of exotic chocolates is really impressive. We had the chance to try chocolates made from single sourced cocoa from several different countries. The Sales person was extremely knowledgeable about the chocolates and what makes each piece unique. Though a bit pricey, the experience of tasting and really paying attention to the subtleties that made each piece special, was really very interesting. A neighborhood gem.

I am judging solely on the chocolate store. It seemed like they had much more to offer, but we did not have time to take full advantage of the Chocolate Château.
It was a cute little store; clean and organized. The chocolates were very pretty and the taste was to be expected. Good, but not life changing. The chocolates seem a little pricey to not be locally made. The store clerk let us know that nothing was made in house.
If you’re wanting something to satisfy a sweet craving and see some great old architecture, then by all means pop in for a chocolate. I don’t know that I would go out of my way to go back, though.

The patio is a nice dog-​friendly spot to grab a bite to eat. I had the berry salad with chocolate nibs and chicken, and my husband had the cuban sandwich which was served with sweet potato fries.
The food was AMAZING. The other people that we were eating with were all very enthusiastic about their food as well. The reason that I give a ⁴⁄₅ review is that everything was served on or in something disposable. The plates were the cheapo paper-​thin paper plates, and the chocolate martini was served in a plastic ice cream sundae type cup.
This normally wouldn’t be a problem for me (especially since I have no idea whether or not this establishment has the ability to wash a large amount of dishes), HOWEVER the amount of salad that you can fit onto one of these plates was on the skimpy side of a starter salad. Had I not gotten the chicken (which was oh-​so-​good and juicy for $ 2 more) I would have had to order something else. As it was, I still left feeling hungry. If I’m paying an entrée price for a salad, I expect to get enough leafy greens and other toppings to fill me up. Not a handful of greens and a scattering of berries and cheese.
I had a bite of the cuban sandwich and managed to steal a couple of fries from my husband, it was the best cuban that I’ve ever had. The sweet potato fries were much better than versions that I’ve had at other restaurants.
So my heart is torn between overpaying for the skimpy salad and wanting to shove it in my mouth all of the time!
We also went into the actual chocolate shop, and there were some interesting flavors and chocolate designs. The chocolate was… chocolate. Not much to say about it. I did however enjoy the chocolate nibs that were in my salad, definitely not something that you come across every day.

Chocolate store on the first floor is good, with a nice selection of delicacies and yummy ice cream. I would like to see more local chocolate products featured, though.
Sunday Brunch. We arrived at noon or so and almost all of the food was gone. There were no customers. None of the tables were set up for diners. There were crumbs on the table that we chose. The waiter had been sitting doing nothing when we came in. We brought our daughter and there was no high chair for her. This is on the third floor of the building and I didn’t see an elevator, so brunch for old folks would not work out. The food that was available was mediocre. If it had been hot it would have been better. I just don’t know.

This review is for the new patio dining area at Dr Chocs.

Went with my pup in the evening to check it out… Immediately had a water bowl for him and a few dog treats from Victor, Duke the Chef visited everyones table, and offered to whip something up for my pup if I liked… all I had to do was ask… anytime.
Are you kidding me… Awesome x 100 service, burger was great, beer was cold.
Patio was nicely done with the lights in the trees, a lot of plants, had a good vibe. diff from Frost (which is also a fave). a little more so cal casual which is not a bad thing! If there is one knock… it would be plastic drink cups and utensils… guessing they do not have a diswasher. but that is a small thing given everything else rocks…
My puppy gives them 10 stars… which in human Unilocal rating is 5 stars!
Will def be back often.
Update mid august…
unfortunately they seem to be making some bad decisions. last time we went the quaint lighting turned into a feeling like we were sitting on the surface of the sun with super bright lights under the umbrellas. last couple times, folks there seemed more interested in getting out of there than being there. i did not adjust the stars. l would like to see them succeed… but dont have high hopes based on what i am seeing.

I went for lunch here on Sunday with my grandma and girlfriend. I had the turkey burger and it was fantastic. We would have loved to sit out on their patio which was very beautiful but it happened to be a very chilly and overcast day so we elected to eat inside.
The chef was very nice and came and made sure the food was to our liking and to offer us desert. Admittedly with a name like Dr Chocolates we should have saved room for desert but we didn’t expect the generous portion sizes we got and were totally full. Next time there we plan to save room for desert.

Went for an event at Dr Chocolates and had a great time. upstairs on the 3^rd floor they have a bar with an ok selection and they serve a good brunch. The chocolates are great! the service is amazing and the owner and his wife roam around meeting and greeting.

My only experience with this place is as the recipient of a box of their chocolates on my birthday. The presentation was lovely and the chocolates clearly made with love — like little edible works of art. I received a selection of seven chocolates and my favorites were The Player, Blush, and Don Juan. If I lived in the Twin Cities, I’d definitely pay this place a visit when I needed a hostess gift, birthday token, boss present, etc.

Driving by one night a few weeks ago, I noticed a sign out front of this place on the sidewalk saying they have «Bicerin». No chance to have some that night, however, as they were already closed for the evening. Since then, it’s been on my mind to return and try some of this beverage that I’d only read about.
That day came to fruition yesterday, post-​art gallery tour at the J.J. Hill House. We arrived mid-​afternoon, and found only two people sitting at a table, talking with a third person standing. We approached the counter and requested two servings of their Bicerin. The person working the counter was pleasant and brought us our drinks several minutes later. She finished preparing our drinks in front of us and left us to enjoy them.
The beverage consists of a thick sweetened chocolate sitting in the bottom of the glass. The server poured strong coffee over the back of a spoon and into the glass on top of the chocolate. Next, she topped it off with «Chantilly Cream» and a sprinkle of cocoa powder. She advised how people usually consume it — with a teaspoon dipping into the bottom and up through the coffee and cream. It was pleasant. I was expecting something more «chocolately»; instead, it seemed more like a coffee drink.
After we finished our drinks, a gentleman appeared in the room, introducing himself as «Dr. Chocolate». He was friendly and chatty and offered to take us upstairs and show us his chocolate exhibit that’s under construction. We did that and enjoyed the tour.
In addition to selling many different and beautiful chocolates from an enclosed counter, they sell plenty of other miscellaneous items throughout their 1^st floor space.
I thought it was nice to be back in the space that was once occupied by «The Vintage» restaurant and wine bar.

This place was cute and charming. Great chocolate and decent house wine.
I think it could be greatly improved if it didn’t have such a store vibe to it though. The tables are surrounded by things to purchase and it made it much less inviting. I hear that the 2^nd and 3^rd floors open up at night, so maybe it’s better then? I think it could be a very cool place to relax with a book, homework, or some friends if it was less store-​like and more coffee shope/​wine bar.

My husband and I were navigationally challenged last night, and we got there two minutes past their closing time of 10 pm. Instead of grudgingly ringing us up, they were more than gracious in helping us with our chocolate and ice cream selections. Not only that, the shop is adorable, the ice cream is awesome, the chocolates are amazing, and their scrumptious cookies are 60% off later in the day. We will be coming back. But before closing time. :)

Super cheesy name for the shop but OMG, I ABSOLUTELY ADORE this place.
Chocolates:
–Amazing gourmet selection imported from the most renowned chocolatiers, including Recchiuti from San Francisco, a few from New York, and White House chocolate supplier from Oregon
–Very unique selection of flavors (China Rose Tea, Persimmon Peach), and I was pleasantly surprised by every piece of chocolate I eagerly swallowed whole
–The chocolates aren’t Hershey’s cheap but very reasonably priced

–Extremely friendly and personable service

–They have Grandpa’s Ice Cream and it’s only ~$ 3.50 for a giant scoop or two smaller flavor scoops
I devoured my entire box of chocolates in the same speed/​efficiency as how I used to chug 7 shots of vodka in 20min when my liver was still at college-​time champion steel level.
I didn’t count how many chocolates I ate. However, it was enough sugar to make me go to sleep at 3AM, wake up at 5AM, and give me the rush to do 300 consecutive crunches at 5:30AM like I was on steroids.

Wow, if you can’t get a fix for your chocolate jones here, I don’t know what to tell you! Individual chocolates, imported bars of all kinds. What? You aren’t craving chocolate, well they have a small selection of ice cream to tempt you instead. It’s also a nice little gift shop for the chocolate lover in your life.

This isn’t for chocoholics, more for chocophiles. However if you hang out here long enough you can learn to become one. Oprah listed one of these candies as best Valentine candy. It was Easter Sunday, and I thought what better place to be then a chocolate shop. I always wondered what was going to become of this building. It became somebody’s dream. Dr. Chocolate is an actual person. I believe he’s a doctor of psychotherapy. What better combination, that’s a treatment I could get used to. Guess who walks in. I got a lecture, and the grand tour, from the master, himself. He only gets his supply from the best chocolatiers in the country. One works out of a loft in NYC. We’re going through all the ones in the counter. Then I sample some chocolate rocks. I said «These are M&M on steroids». This building is a maze of rooms, and each one has the craziest stuff with a chocolate theme. A chocolate calculator anyone? Gifts for all ages. I stopped by today and got a little discount on some Easter egg chocolate for the approaching Orthodox Easter. I got a piece of the Player, fantastic. This will be a great place for meetings of any sort. Ann, the manger is usually around, and very helpful. I’m officially a chocophile.

Can’t quite constitute being a 5 star fan just yet, but the service is remarkable.
I’ve seen this place out of the corner of my eye driving by. The signage is a little hard to make out from the road. Maybe it’s just me.
The girls working there were very personable and informative. Couldn’t ask for a more welcoming greeting.
The little shop itself is quaint. A few tables for people to sit and chat if they choose.
A nice sized gift shop with plenty of gift ideas for people who like chocolate. They had some interesting chocolate bars that seemed to be infused with wine. Not sure exactly, but they looked like a great gift idea for someone who likes both.
I picked the triple chocolate truffle out of the inviting cases. It was alright; extremely rich. Definitely a treat of decadence for more than one sitting.
Packaging is cute. I will stop back for gifts.
Nice addition to the neighborhood. Remarkable service. Nice place to grab someone a gift, perhaps I’ll be a bigger fan on my next trip.
