Day of The Dog

We LOVE this place and so do our 2 furry children. It’s not an assembly line, there are only 2 dogs being groomed at same time. We truly love the owner and groomer as they are truly invested in products and service. We even bought 2 or their handmade double fleeced, reversible dog blankets for the dog beds which has saved us from having to buy more beds!
They really know their stuff!!! They can answer any questions and it shows that they truly take pride in the whole shop. Reasonably priced, parking can be a little of a challenge but never impossible. Great little shops surrounding this business so we get to do other errands at the same time! Most importantly, the dogs are NOT STRESSED with the experience and we get lots of compliments. We tell everyone we meet to go there!!!

This is a boutique doggy store which given the fact that it is at Pickering Wharf, you might just think it is part of the tourist trap. It is not!
I took my 80-​Lb golden doodle there for a haircut, tired of the random results of big chain stores. My dog loved the groomer, they got along great. A couple hours later, he came out looking magnificent. My better half says it is the best haircut in the 3 years we’ve had the dog since he was a pup.
Customer service is great. The owners are really friendly and knowledgeable. And as far as the grooming, the price is right around market price for this large dog. I can only say good things.

These guys are the best groomers around! Faye and Kylie are amazing. They always take such great care of our pooch. From her bath to nail clipping– the do a great job. The last time I went, they made our dog a special scarf to celebrate the fact that she just became a big sister and to recognize her current fight against cancer. The thoughtfulness nearly brought me to tears.

I brought my terrified and very dirty and matted Himalayan cat Rocco in for his summer lion cut. Kylie was so good with him, he looked adorable when he was done and he hasn’t stopped purring! I really like the people who work here, it’s obvious they love animals.

The cutest pet shop I’ve ever seen! Something for everyone! If you’re ever in Salem and you have a fur baby (or a friend who does) stop in and say hi!

I love this shop, and it is always one of my stops when I head up to Salem. It is primarily a dog store with quality employees (I’ve seen them in action too many times to count and I can’t recommend better people for your pup to see for anything from nail trimming to a full groom). HOWEVER! There is a lovely cat section with some adorable toys and incredibly useful items– I don’t know how I’d get by without the concentrated catnip spray to mark my cat’s things for him. The calming spray is herbal and thankfully works wonders for my cat, something the owner was clear about; since it was herbal, it wasn’t necessarily going to work on all cats the same way.
My cat’s a big guy, so last time we were in, we picked up a dog harness for him in the cutest little sailor design! Yes, I am that person who wants to take her cat on a walk and even more so, dress him up to embarrass him horribly!
The dog treats are awesome quality, and I always pick up something new and delicious for my parent’s dog. Let me tell you, the lamb ‘bully’ braid was a huge hit with Fritz the German Shepard. Despite being a hugely picky dog, he ate it up lickety split!
I’m pretty much in love with the huge selection of dog and cat toys, as well as people things (I got an adorable necklace pendant from a local crafter they carry!). Plus the owner’s knowledge on all things cat and dog (from how to relieve their allergies to assistance in behavior training/​modification) is unmatched. You absolutely won’t find this sort of curated selection, quality, and especially not the experienced knowledge at any other store let alone some big chain.
If you like cats or dogs, own cats and/​or dogs, or know someone who does, you should check them out!

We recently got a new dog, and as the summer approached he was shedding so much. I was going to take him to PetSmart, for a deshedding treatment that was to show significant results for two months. At the last minute, I decided I would support a local business. I saw great reviews about this place, and figured he would get a more thorough and complete grooming job.
As soon as I picked up our doggie, hair was flying off him. They assured me that it was the initial fluff coming off. The next day, I went to brush our dog and he had more loose hair than I had ever seen. This continued for the next few days.
We called back to inquire about this, and their response was something to the effect of it is what it is. We were offered no additional brushing or anything to rectify the situation. I really feel as though I wasted $ 50 dollars, and I’m sad I can’t take him back to a local place a few blocks away to get grooming services. It’s too bad because the groomer was so sweet, my dog didn’t hesitate at all to go with her, and she reported he was very good with her.

Whenever I am in town, I make it a point to stop by Day of the Dog. I am always SUPER impressed at the variety and quality of treats being offered by Day of the Dog. I think it’s great that they are so thorough about where the treats come from to ensure quality and make sure they are safe for my furry friend. I LOVE the sugar skull logo too. I’m not usually in town with my dog, but when I can bring him over, he always looks great after being taken care of by Kylie and Faye. Highly recommended the shop for grooming and goodies after your 4-​legged friend comes out looking like a movie stah!

The grooming experience here has always been really wonderful. The staff here are so welcoming and sweet to my dog, and have always tried to be accommodating for scheduling her grooming appointments. My dog also seems to not mind going here, which is nice because I know that grooming can be unpleasant sometimes (especially for goldendoodles!) and I can tell that she’s handled nicely. Always a great experience, and will continue using their services!

My husband and I adopted Jesse (our Poodle/​Bichon mix) last year from our local shelter. He is a sweet and loving 3 year old boy, who is extremely special to us. This past year we proceeded to have Jesse groomed at several places. We were never really, happy for various reasons. While walking Jesse in our neighborhood, and talking to people we would meet up with, we were getting a lot of wonderful feedback about Brian at Day of the Dog. They were so right. He’s kind, caring and best of all, really talented at what he does. Jesse looks amazing, and is happy and smiling after our visits. The shop is under new ownership, and Fay is also very knowledgeable and friendly. Every time we’re out walking, Jesse drags me towards the shop… That’s a sign right there!

Great grooming experience at Day of the Dog! Love that they have Saturday and Sunday hours. Owners/​groomer are very friendly and genuinely like what they do. My pup and I were happy to have his nails trimmed down as short as possible without cutting the quick.

Brian has a great can-​do attitude, and our dog (a long-​haired Tibetan Terrier) always looks great when we pick him up. Sometimes when we bring him in, he’s more matted than he should be, and somehow Brian manages to be able to remove the matts and judiciously clip our dog’s fur while keeping the rest a nice length; this is when other groomers would simply clip it all off. We highly recommend him!

I love this place! The people there were so kind to my dog and they almost cater to aggressive/​non social dogs since they do appointments that don’t overlap. Ace smelled great and looked handsome and really seemed he loved it :)

I love this store whenever I’m in Salem I stop here. Not only are the employees super friendly they have some good stuff and my dogs LOVE the treats here. They have unique flavors some I don’t see anywhere else rabbit, duck, venison, salmon, turkey amongst others. Definitely check this place out!

We have two Great Pyr mix sisters that we rescued from a kill shelter in N.C. They’re gentle but skittish, not used to being groomed and have experienced some trauma at the hands of a rough groomer to the point where they refuse to go into a room that has running water, including a bathroom at home. The only groomer they like is Brian at Day of the Dog. We’ve followed him from other places because he has a gentle manner with dogs and they really love him. Now he’s taken over Day of the Dog and is in charge, the atmosphere is WONDERFUL and for the first time in 3 years these two big girls were completely relaxed and smiling when I picked them up. My dogs are very tough customers and if they are happy with Brian and Day of the Dog, believe me, this is Dog Heaven and there is no better!

The groomer did an excellent job taking care of my special needs dog. He was gentle and loving with my little guy from the moment he met him. My dog left looking handsome and smelling terrific. The shop owner was really nice and we chatted for a little while when I dropped him off. This is a wonderful shop and I look forward to going back and getting my baby bear groomed there in the future!

Love this place. My dog is a shelter rescue and this was his first time being groomed. He looked fabulous and the groomer and the owner couldn’t have been nicer.

Nancy is such an animal lover. She greets all the animals that come into her store with a genuine excitement. She is so kind to our dog Mollie (4 yr old Golden Doodle). Mollie drags us through the front door when she sees the store and then puts her front paws up on the counter to greet her friend Nancy.
We buy Mollie’s treats there because they are organic and so healthy. Mollie is partial to the liver kisses.
Grooming of dogs is a calm and unique experience since there are no other dogs in the grooming area. The prices are good for all goods and services.
It’s Sunday so I guess we’ll all jump in the car and head for Living With Pets to see Nancy and get some more treats.
