RJ Coins and Jewelry

Recently brought a friend of mine here who is from out of town and was visiting Salem. She was looking for a certain pendant for her daughter’s birthday (a compass). The saleswoman was very helpful, patient, and found a piece that was exactly what she was looking for! My friend also bought a silver chain that went perfectly and both items were placed in a beautiful box and gift wrapped. My friend was ecstatic as she had looked at a few other stores and they did not have it. The prices were wonderful and the selection is extensive. This is a family owned business and it is evident that the owners care that their customers are satisfied.
I have bought several silver nautical bracelets here for gifts in the past, as well as had several watch batteries replaced. I will continue to be a customer here! Love this store!

They will change your watch battery for $ 2.99! Who does that?! Of course they do it to get you in the store so you will look around and maybe buy something else, but what’s wrong with that? I have been getting my watch batteries changed there since moving to the area about 25 years ago and I have also bought a few pieces of jewelry for my wife over the years. They have a great selection and prices that range from unbelievably cheap to cheaper than most. They also do repairs; last year they rebuilt a ring that had to be cut off my wife’s finger. It came back looking like new — absolutely incredible work!
I was motivated to write this review after my most recent experience at RJ’s. A relative passed away recently and left a box of old coins that my aunt asked me to get appraised and maybe sell. I took them to a number of places in Lynn, Danvers and Salem, including RJ’s. Of course, I also did some online research which led me to believe they were worth a fortune. I had offers ranging from $ 400 to $ 1150. At most of the places the people were indifferent, a couple were downright rude, and most did not want to discuss or explain anything about how they arrived at their evaluation. At RJ’s the guy was very friendly and patient about explaining how they arrive at their figures and took the time to explain how important a coin’s condition is to its value. He even showed me couple of half dollars out of his showcases that were the same type and year, but one was heavily worn and one was like new. The worn one was priced at $ 8.00 and the other was $ 1200.00. I was starting to understand where my internet research went awry! The guy offered $ 1100 for the coins and when I told him I had been offered $ 1150, he offered $ 1160 because «we like to be number one». That closed the deal for me.

Offered very low price for silver coins. Spent a lot of time analyzing coins then offered half value. Avoid for selling coins!

As a bullion silver coin collector, I stopped by to see what they had to offer. They are best to stick with their jewelry, coin people they are not!
Not only are they extremely overpriced, they have no clue how to handle a raw coin straight from the mint tube. 2015 Silver Eagle priced at $ 10 over silver spot. Silver spot $ 15/​ounce = $ 25 price for coin.
The owner opened up the mint tube and poured the coins into his bare hand then picked up raw coin like he was handling pocket change. Finger directly on the face of the coin, not holding the edge like most true coin people do. I let out an audible gasp after seeing him do this. There was no way that I was going to purchase a coin with his oily fingerprints on it for $ 10 over silver spot.
Stay away from this place!

Owner is arrogant. does not pay anywhere close to real values or spot per ounce rates. Store is nice looking, well stocked, clean, and has alot of great stuff, but I’m not interested in selling my silver far below market prices, however, as a buyer, I have often found many pretty pairs of earrings at a great price. Overall, I would say it’s great place for buying, not so good for selling.
