Benny’s Cycle Shop

Clay helped me in a pinch, he’s super knowledgable and very affordable. Broke down in Salinas and my boyfriend recommended me to Benny’s. Within a couple hours I was back on the road, definitely coming back if I’m ever in Salinas.

I was having some issues with my bike (1977 bmw r100/​7) heading to San Francisco from LA. Stopped by Benny’s and he help me diagnose the problem and get back on the road in no time at all.
Friendly and great prices. If I ever break down in Salinas again I will be back.

Honest, efficient and fast! I had worn out my rear tire to the cords on my Harley. I called around and nobody could get the tire, which was no longer being made, faster than Benny’s. I brought my bike in the next morning, the tire arrived, and I was back on the road.
Note to Harley owners. The dealership told me it would take a week for the tire. Not with Benny’s. The tire was there the next day. I also trust Benny’s far more than stealerships.

Clay was my mechanic for about a year, and he still would be but I had to move. You won’t find a better guy to work on your bike. He takes time to talk with you to get a good idea of what is going on. His prices are fair, and he’s as efficient as a small shop can be.

I have a Can Am Spyder (metric) and when I had problems with the engine on a Saturday, I was able to take it to him for repair. He was able to diagnose the problem and fix it. He also was able to deal with the extended warranty carrier. His prices are very reasonable and you know you are being treated fairly.

Benny is making a habit of saving the day. I cannot say enough about his kindness and willingness to help out. Every owner of a MC shop could learn from Benny.
On a MC ride to see my daughter at Cal State Monterey (from Riverside (SoCal)) I encountered a nail that decided to reside in my rear tire. Tried my trusty plug kit without success but was able to limp into Paso Robles, where it turns out just about every Motorcycle Dealer is now out of business. (Honda-​Yamaha where are you?) So my daughter drove down to get me and my rear wheel with the flat tire.
After getting picked up, driving to Salinas, and having some dinner we hit the internet and started calling the MC Shops intending to get recordings of store hours. I didn’t have to return until Monday so maybe we could find someone open on Sunday (unlikely) or at least early Monday. Anyway it was now 11:00 pm on Saturday when we called Benny’s Cycle Shop and he picked up the phone!
Benny had just gotten back from short vacation and always has his work number forwarded just in case someone needs his help. Well he was busy Sunday morning but could meet me around 4:00 at his shop (on Sunday) and see what we could do. When I get there I find a great little shop, neat and clean, and a warm welcome from Benny. Benny had called a few contacts and looked in his tire pile in an attempt to locate some kind of tire I could use to get me home. But since my 1984 V65 Sabre is becoming something of an antique he had no luck. So Benny pulled the tire off, patched it, and remounted it.
Benny, (like myself) was not exactly thrilled about sending me off with a patched tire but I knew I could take it easy on it and it would get me home. So I checked the air a few times before leaving Salinas and all was well. Had my daughter drive me back to Salinas on Monday, I re-​installed the rear wheel, and now my bike and I are safely home (tire still holding air).
In this lousy economy I have been worried by the shrinking number of MC Dealers. Well if this makes room for small independents who run their shops like Benny then Motorcycling is alive and well.
Now if I can find one like Benny’s here in Riverside CA.
