Right Side Up RV Sales

You’d expect that a dealer, even a used RV dealer, would prep a vehicle for sale by at least cleaning it. Not these guys.
I flew from out-​of-​state to SLC, after what was mostly a pleasant sequence of interactions with the sales rep. First surprise was the junk-​yard feeling of the lot. Second surprise was the actual condition of the coach I was interested in. The pictures and video that was made available to me just didn’t do the condition any justice, even as I look back on them now.
I ultimately decided to purchase the coach after a bit of negotiating, since elbow-​grease and a few dollars could get it into the shape I wanted it. But for those looking to make a trip to Utah, here is some of the stuff I have done since purchasing my coach, to give you an idea of what you might expect, or at least give you some things to ask about before traveling:
1) Deep cleaning. Every horizontal surface was dirty or grimy; even the cord on the wall-​mounted hair dryer was nasty. The privacy shades in the cockpit were gross, but a run through the laundry did wonders. My wife and I spent about 8 hours just cleaning everything, from floor to ceiling. Yes, the ceiling.
2) Replaced all water fixtures. It’s a 12 year-​old coach, so old and grimy fixtures had to go. The new ones made a big difference.
3) New toilet. The old one had a valve that wouldn’t seal. And who wants 12 years of other peoples’ crap to deal with?
4) Tore out old accordion-​style shower door and put in clean new shower curtain.
5) Serviced generator, because, well, who knows when that happened last. It was running fine during the inspection, as did most appliances, for the record.
6) Serviced fridge, which is the only major appliance that is not running well. We’ll see how it does in the summer, but this may get replaced too.
7) New serpentine belt. One of the few things I failed to inspect, and they let me drive off the lot with one that was about to snap at any moment. Myself and the mechanic that replaced it were amazed that I made it home.
8) New house batteries. I don’t know how old the ones in it were, but you could see almost all of the plates in the water-​fill holes. I put over 1 gallon of distilled water into the 2 batteries! Both were replaced and the battery compartment scrubbed of all of the old nasty crud.
9) Replaced nine luggage door latches. Yes, nine of them.
10) Had the exterior fully detailed, including buffing and wax.
In summary, I made the purchase after thinking through the work and cost required to clean it up compared to the ongoing search for something in my price range and at the level of quality I wanted. I’m also MUCH more prepared to make my next remote RV purchase when we are ready for an upgrade in a few years.
The team at Right Side Up was nice enough and low-​pressure. I’m just hoping this review helps folks understand that, at least per my experience, you should do a lot more pre-​work before flying to Utah to see a coach. Ask about condition, get detailed high-​res pictures of common areas that will show condition/​wear/​tear. Bottom line for me is that I would probably not go back there nor would I recommend them to my friends, so a 2-​star review seems about right. Per Unilocal’s own words: «Meh. Don’t buy if you dont see what it’s the real condition, you can be deceived by the pictures you ll get. I had the bad experience buying from this place last year coming all the way from alaska. I’ll not recommend buying from them unless you see the actual rv.
