Shirodhara Day Spa

I was a regular here for about two years while I lived in the Cottonwood Heights area, and came here for my hair (highlights) and waxing (Brazilian) needs. I was mostly very satisfied with the service, although I have to point out that this is definitely due to the personal relationships I developed with the staff, some of whom were absolutely phenomenal, as I will explain below.
Waxing: I used to request Casey, who was excellent, before she got laid off last year. When I heard this, I was upset since I had gotten to really like her, and had to find a new Shirodhara aesthetician. I tried a few of the aestheticians, and to be honest, was lukewarm about all of them (note to the owner: it’s very obvious when someone doesn’t have a lot of experience with Brazilian waxes…)…until I got Angela. She is FABULOUS. She is so nice (we knew some of the same people which made for fun conversations) and she waxes so quickly and painlessly that I was in and out within 15 minutes. She deserves a raise! She only works a few days a week, so you may need to request her a few weeks in advance, but it’s so worth it.
Hair: I always requested Celeste, although I’m pretty sure she has moved on from Shirodhara. She was excellent – did my hair so beautifully, and I got to know her on a personal level. I’m the kind of person who likes chatting while getting my hair done, and she was always fun and social.
Front desk: Aubrey is so cheerful and professional. It’s kind of rare to find front desk professionals especially in the beauty industry who are warm and pleasant (oddly…you would think that is a job requirement…) but Aubrey epitomizes all those qualities. I like that she always remembered my name and who I was, too. Those kinds of things make customers into regulars.
Like others said, the décor is a little strange. It’s the people who make this place, not necessarily the ambiance.

This day spa is not the Grand America. It’s a local day spa. So if you’re expecting expensive hotel spa, then pay for it. That being said, my experience here was much better than the others listed. I had a 3 hour package including a massage, facial, & pedicure.
The massage was excellent. Christy was very thorough and listened to my needs for problem areas. She even added a Thai style massage component which was great.
The facial was pretty standard. Holly was friendly and knowledgeable. The facial included about 5 different products as well as extractions and neck/​arm massage. No complaints.
The only grip gripe I had was that I waited a full 30 minutes to get in for my scheduled pedicure which was a little annoying. Suzanne who did the pedicure was very thorough and paid lots of attention to detail. Although the service did not last the full hour, I was happy with the final results.
The spa has a steam room you are welcome to use and robes to wear whilst on between services. Overall was a pretty good experience. Prices aren’t too unreasonable either.

I agree with the previous post. I think I set my expectations too high. I was excited for my 3 hour spa day and it was ok.
When I first arrived the lady at the counter took me to the dressing room to get into my robe. She had me sit in the hallway while I waited for my massage therapist. It was an awkward place because I sat in my robe and sandals while countless people walked in front of me. She did come back and offer me some water and she was really nice but sitting in a hallway waiting for a massage — not good.
Another young lady must have seen the look on my face and took me downstairs to their waiting area. GO FIGURE.
I waited for a few minutes and was taken to my massage room. The service was fine. The young lady didn’t have any music playing — just birds chirping. I like birds but the music tends to relax me and well… No music. That being said the massage was ok.
My next stop was a facial. I was taken into a room and again the young lady was very nice. She had music. Ok… Cool. When she started she sprinkled eucalyptus on my face. Some got into my tear ducts and we had to stop so I could sponge my eyes out. You never want that stuff in your eyes… Fire!!! Once that was done she started work. Despite cold hands it was a nice facial. One thing that was silly tho, each time she would squeeze something into her hand it would make that weird «fart-​like» sound. It happened a few times. By this point I decided this wasn’t going to be a relaxing spa day but a day of services. She turned on an egg timer … thing … At the start of the visit. At least it didn’t buzz when the time ran out.
After that was done I was taken to the dressing room to get dressed and get my last service, a pedicure. I was brought back to the hallway to sit. The lady who came to get me didn’t seem very happy or sociable. She had music playing in the room but the door was left open and I could hear all the noise outside on the salon. OH WELL. We did end up chatting. Because the music kept skipping and we chuckled at how loud the people in the salon were. This funny lady kept getting nail polish on my foot and her hand.
She did a decent job.
When all is said and done had I not had a groupon for my services, I would have been pissed. Considering the price paid for 3 services, I’m good. I would not come back unless I had the same groupon. This is DEFINITELY NOT a day spa. Not a relaxing environment in the least.

So maybe my expectations were too high. Let me explain in detail. I came here with a
coupon for a 1 hr massage, 1.5 hr pedi, and 1.5 hr facial– at a STEAL. Given that it was a steal, I would say that this should be a 5-​star thing. However, given the retail price? Not so much.
So when I buy a spa coupon that retails at almost $ 200, I expect to be given the $ 200 at a much better price. This way, if I like the spa, then I’ll send my girlfriends there and buy myself treatments as a special reward or treat to myself. Unfortunately, although the experience was good, «A-​OK” — for sure, I think if I had to pay retail that I would have been quite disappointed.
Let’s start with the good. My massage and facial were very relaxing. I got a prenatal massage, and they had the padding to make sure I could lay on my front and made sure that I was comfortable. It wasn’t the best massage I’ve ever had, but that’s because I usually see the best masseuse in the world and prefer deep tissue work. But I went in expecting a Swedish-​type relaxation massage, and as they go, this pretty good. The facial was super relaxing and my skin felt great afterwards.
Now with the… not as good. Honestly, for some, this might not be an issue, but it does bother me. When I think «nice day spa,» I think of something like Kura Door or a nice hotel spa: nice, muted décor, relaxing atmosphere, comfortable areas to sit and wait… etc. You know, if you’re buying an expensive treatment, you’re expecting an expensive environment. This is definitely not it. Not that it’s DIRTY, or anything, but the locker room is basically a bathroom with an old ottoman, old row of locked cabinets, and a waste bin that looked like it used to have a cover, but doesn’t any longer– and the bag is an old bag from another store. After changing into my robe, I was asked to go back and wait in «a wicker chair with green pillows,» which was in the hallway. It was uncomfortable, the reading materials were awful, and I was in the hallway, with people passing back and forth in front of me. After sitting there for about 10 minutes, I was finally shown downstairs, where there was more uncomfortable furniture (two wooden chairs with old cushions, a window bench with a cushion) and some more wrinkled magazines. Their idea of a magazine holder is a wine rack– believe me, magazines don’t fare well when they’re stored rolled up. I guess my opinion of the décor was settled when I went in for my massage and there was a hole in the blanket and the room had a shower in the corner. (What?!) Oh, and then the pedicure room was a big WTF. Three wicker chairs lined up in a row (what is this place’s thing with wicker? Wicker is NOT comfy at all!!! Or easy to clean, for that matter) with plug-​in pedicure buckets for our feet. You put your feet up on this stand, which liked to tip over and swivel, so I was basically holding my feet up the entire time. (Good ab workout, but not what I like for a pedi!)
More gripes about the pedi: I asked the girl 2 – 3 times if she could cut my toenails a bit shorter. Maybe they don’t supply their pedicurists with nail clippers? Because then she would proceed to just file away at them. Oh, and she told me that my toenails weren’t that long to begin with. Hello, yes they were. Every other $ 25 pedi I’ve been to has asked if I want my nails shorter and then CLIPPED THEM when I said, «Yes, just a little.» In terms of the actual paint job, it looks pretty good, but mostly because it took FOREVER. When I hear «1.5 hr pedicure,» I don’t think that somebody is going to be painting my nails for half of it, I think, oh– there will be a scrub, and some massage… Yes, there were those things, but those took a grand total of 5 minutes. Anyways. The girl was pretty thorough with the painting and removing dead skin and stuff, but by that time my legs and abs were uncomfortable from having to hold myself upright.
At any rate, this has become sort of a rant. Would I go back? Only on a coupon deal. It was a relaxing afternoon, but not exactly the spa experience I was hoping for.

Do not go here. Kristy is terrible with color and when I tried to call to let her know how badly my color had faded it took her a week to get back to me and another week to get me in. She wouldnt refund my money because it had been past two weeks, which was laughable as the reason it was past two weeks is because she would not return my call. When I finally saw her she told me that «red fades easily» as if after 30 years of coloring my hair I was not aware of this. I reminded her that the first time she colored my hair it had not faded like this had and she said that it «still looked good to her». Unfortunately it did not look good to me and I was out $ 130 for a terrible color that I now have to pay to have redone. She did offer to re color it, but with such animosity I was not comfortable having her touch my hair again. I had told her not to use Redken on my hair as this never works for me, and I know that this is what she used and would not admit to it. DO NOT GO HERE.

This was my first time at Shirodhara Day Spa and I have to say I left disappointed. I showed up about 15 minutes early to get undressed and in my robe so I was ready for my 2pm appointment. When I showed up the lady at the front desk just told me to wait over on the chairs in the hair salon. I waited in my clothes until 2:08 when my massage therapist finally came and got me. I was never offered to get in a robe and she had me undress in the massage room. When she came in she spent about 10 minutes of my 60 minute massage just pushing and rubbing me with the blankets on me. I was wondering if she was going to uncover me and actually massage me. When she finally did uncover me she was great at working out all my knots, but she talked to me the entire time.
My pedicure was nice, but it wasn’t day spa quality. It was the same type of pedicure I get from VN Nails, which I pay $ 25 for. For the price I paid I feel like it should have had paraffin wax, an amazing foot/​leg massage and a hot towel wrap.
Shirodhara should not call themselves a day spa. It was not a very relaxing experience at all. It was $ 150 for my massage and pedicure, which I don’t feel I got the monies worth. It is worth it to me to pay twice as much to go to the Kura Door where I am offered a robe and slippers, where it is very quiet with dim lighting and wonderful music playing, where I can use their amazing steam room, and sit in their relaxation room. I will definitely not be returning to the Shirodhara Day Spa.

My sister and I came for a massage and pedicure, this was our first time at Shirodhara. First, let me point out that we have visited several day spas in the valley (The Kura Door, Xcel Day Spa, Massage Envy, Grand America Day Spa, etc.) and are pretty familiar with how things usually work at a spa.
Several points:
1. Our appointment was at 2pm. We arrived early so that we could have time to change into our robes and get ready. We were told to wait by the desk. Our massage therapists came out right at 2pm and took us straight to our massage rooms. We were never given the option to change into robes, and we assumed this is just how their spa works since we’ve never been before. However, when our massages were over and we were walking around the spa waiting for our pedicures, we noticed that the other clients were wearing robes. We were left wondering why we were not given this option?
2. My massage was less than an hour long, but my sister received her full hour. I was done and waiting for her to be finished for over 10 minutes, yet we both started at the same time (actually, I used the bathroom first so that eliminated some time as well). In addition, my entire massage was spent face down on the table. Usually, when receiving a full body massage, you rotate to your back, yet this never happened. The girl was great, but she didn’t massage my feet, she spent little time on my arms, and never had me change positions so that she could massage my quads, shoulders, neck, feet, etc. I was pretty disappointed, especially when I learned that my sister’s massage included all of the things mine didn’t.
3. We noticed they had a steam room, which would have been nice to use, had we been able to use robes.
4. The pedicures were pretty standard. Some places offer more (like wrapping your feet in hot towels), but as far as pedicures go, it was roughly the same quality as when you go to the pedicure places at the mall. I wouldn’t say that the pedicure they offer is «day spa» quality, but it was nice. Both of our girls were great, however, mine started about 10 minutes after my sister’s because the girl who did mine said she mixed up the time.
Overall, our experience at Shirodhara was not terrible, but it wasn’t anything we’d be excited to come back to. If you’re looking for a relaxing atmosphere, and some pampering (which is why we go to the day spa in the first place, right?), I wouldn’t recommend this place.

A friend and I recently treated ourselves to the «spa refresher» that included a massage, facial, and pedicure. We both left relaxed, refreshed, and pleased with the whole experience.
This was the second time I’d been to Shirodhara for this package, as I had purchased some Living Social deals, but I think the full $ 185 for this package is still pretty reasonable.
Now, Kura Door this is not. The general ambiance of the place is nice, but it’s not all soothing and zen, in my opinion. It’s a little more utilitarian. But really, they’ve done what they can with the space, and it works just fine. My eyes were closed for two thirds of the time anyway!
All the therapists were kind and seemed to genuinely care about delivering good service. The massage was as good as any other massage I’ve gotten. And the therapist listened to my needs for less pressure or added attention to my feet, which I appreciated.
The European Facial was especially lovely, and it did include extractions and a neck and shoulder massage. The hand massage and softening treatment that was included was a nice addition.
My pedicure chipped after about a week, which isn’t great, but it’s on par with other pedicures I’ve gotten at some other day spas.
Unless you are looking for a deluxe pampering experience with a luxury environment, I’d recommend you check out Shirodhara any time for any of these services. I’ll probably be back at the full price someday!

I bought a 4 hour spa package for a friend and myself.
You change into robes & flip flops and get a locker to put your stuff in. I would have preferred a fluffy robe & fluffy slippers but it was ok I guess.
We were told the steam room was not working which really sucked because I was so looking forward to sitting in there!
But then we started our package which began with a massage and it was amazing… I have to recommend Teresa, she gave me such a sensual and relaxing massage that I fell asleep!
Then I got an 1.5 hour facial which was very relaxing and refreshing.
Then they have you change back into your clothes before you get your 1.5 hour pedicure … but the pedicure didn’t seem to last 1.5 hours and it was nothing special at all! that was the only disappointing part… the girl made my feet bleed by filing my skin around my toes. There wasn’t any warm wax, callous removal or anything special. I felt at that point that we were pretty rushed to end our visit! If you buy things seperate or buy a package don’t waste your money on a sucky pedicure there!

My friend and I purchased some 4 hour packages for this place and loved it! It feels more like a bed and breakfast than a traditional, super formal spa, but it made me feel welcome and comfortable. The staff was friendly, professional, and really good at what they did. It was easily the best pedicure I’ve had in Salt Lake!

I have been searching for a good waxer since moving back to Salt Lake, and I was honestly more sad to tell mine I was leaving the state than telling my ex I was leaving him. She was so good to me, despite having implied I was a stripper once. I let it slide since she was so good at navigating my lady parts like a boss.
The closest I’ve come to a replacement is Angela at Shirodhara, after 10+ visits to random places in the valley. I purchased a Livingsocial deal for a Brazilian Wax for $ 22 and I was really pleased with her.
Now ladies (and gents), I have been through the ringer if you will on my quest to find someone just right for me to manhandle my dedicates with hot wax. I’ve dealt with ladies ranging from the meek «Oh I’m sooooo sorry I don’t want to hurt you!», to the down right rude «Your hair is so coarse this is frustrating and taking forever!». I’m trying not to get too graphic in this review, because I don’t want to scar you with any images of my unmentionables being slathered with wax and violently stripped of its coat, but getting a good Brazilian is a hard to find art.
Angela was quick, thorough and just the right amount of chatty. Now I’m not shy when it comes to being half naked in front of strangers, but it’s hard to hold a conversation with all the carnage happening below the waist. The finished product was great, and my time spent was as pleasant as a Brazilian can get. Though I didn’t get my after waxing tweezer inspection under the magnifying light, I will go back to Angela in between random people on my quest to find my waxing soul mate.

I love this day spa. I get by hair done here as well as waxing, massages, and pedicures. They have so many services to offer, but those are the four I get done and they are wonderful! A little pricey, but well worth the soothing atmosphere.

I purchased an «Acne Lift Facial» and I had a very disappointing experience. Shirodhara charges $ 100 for this facial so I was expecting a lot– I have had many facials in the past and I have never paid that much before. Acne facials always include extractions and exfoliation– I received neither. Normally the aesthetician will administer some kind of neck, head, or hand rub while the chemicals and/​or the moisturizer is soaking in, but instead she just sat there and chatted with me. Also, the manner in which she rubbed my face seemed very careless and unskilled. I have had FAR better facials from students in aesthetic schools. Finally, I expected this facial to take about 50 minutes. The aesthetician called me from the waiting room at 10:04 and when I left the room, the clock said 10:39. This included undressing/​dressing time, which put the total service time at about 30 – 32 minutes.
This was by far the worst facial I have ever received in my life and I was incredibly disappointed. Normally I tip very well, but I tried to send a message with $ 5. I probably shouldn’t have tipped at all and complained to the management.
I joined Unilocal just to write this review and warn others not to waste their money on this facial.

Would have been ⁵⁄₅ except the girls at the counter could practice their customer service skills a little more. I waited for 15 minutes before being greeted and asked to sit. The woman doing my facial was late and nobody decided to tell me. However once it started, the experience was fantastic! I was extremely relaxed and loved how their facial included massage. I would definitely come back if I could afford it.
