The Grand America Hotel

I do not recommend, I thought I was booking a luxury hotel the view from our room was the other tower and a parking garage the staff was rude our room was tiny no ice on our floor the elevators were slow it took 35 minutes to stand in line to check in that should have been my first clue there is no sound barrier from the outside or room to room the only reason I booked it was because it had a pool but the pool is tiny the cabana lounge area is nice and it is right off Fremont never the less we left and went to a much better hotel with more space and a better pool for half the price

One of my favorite hotels anywhere. Beautiful, spacious rooms, high quality linens and amenities, friendly staff, good food – and their conference team is the best. My team, and our participants, have raved about this hotel every time we’ve held our meeting here.

Truly, and I mean truly, fascinating hotel. They know exactly, and I mean exactly, how to take reservations. They do not understand the idea, the very modern concept, that reservations «reserve» anything. I know I’m living on the bleeding of the future of accommodations but you have one job as a reservation taker. Take a reservation, keep that same reservation. Empathy? Not just a non-​priority. Not just absent. A negative empathetic score. A vacuum of empathy. Manager was a nice dude.
Update: ok I’m going from 1 star to 4. The place is architectural and aesthetically very nice. Most people w, like, strong preferences will be just great here. They had a very clever young woman greet me today, check me in, offer me spa services. Bell dudes, valets, all as good as I’ve ever experienced. My room, stunning views. Super nice. I have a feeling not every room is this nice but mine is very, very nice. I had a personal note today apologizing for my room not existing when I arrived last night.
Bottom line, hotels make business decisions. They want to be fully booked. I completely get it. I was actually fine and attempting to joke w the ladies at the front desk last night after they told me I didn’t have the room I’d reserved. But their flat affect and disinterest in explaining my options, explaining why they were allowing me to stand around homeless, not concerned with getting my car, seemingly not concerned w getting me another room, was, like, beyond belief. Everything since those two has been really great. I’d stay here again without any hesitation.
But, like, the front desk. Make it your best people.

I have now stayed at Grand America and attended a conference both at Grand America. I can say that their rooms are top notch. Their guest amenities are out of this world. Their service desk is available ²⁴⁄₇ even though you won’t need them. Their underground parking structure is clean and safe. Their staff is all around the hotel awaiting to help you in any way. Their ballrooms are grand and perfect for any event or company gathering. It can easily hold thousands of people. Good job Grand America!

Stayed here the day of my sealing. Beautiful hotel! Awesome view! Great customer service! Wish I would have chosen a summer day so we could have enjoyed the pool.

My dental team and I attended the 2016 Annual Event for Crown Council here this past weekend. If you’re not familiar, it is a dental association convention for its members that includes two full days of constant speakers, events, etc.
Upon arriving to the Grand America, I was excited to spend some time in such a beautiful, classic setting for our stay. We did not lodge here, but I truly wish we had because our stay across the street (Little America) was less than satisfactory. Several attendees did, however, lodge in the Grand and I heard the rooms were awesome. We had a fairly large group among us totaling of about 800, give or take including the various vendors, etc. Walking about the halls to get to the Grand Ballroom and Dining Halls were quite the swift workouts of the two days and having to walk to and from them all day. They are tucked away from the lobby and would provide great privacy if need be. The detail and décor were classic and upscale, and I loved the harp musician in the entrance of the lobby playing for guests enjoying afternoon tea.
The Valet and gentlemen at the door were so kind and courteous. So why only 4 stars? Being the foodie that I am, I’m not certain if the event was catered separately or hosted by the on-​site cooks or not, but I was not impressed by the meals served. My co-​workers and I agreed they were not the best quality for the kind of event it was. Rather than going into specific detail about each dish, they were just not memorable and it is really not worth it. I can’t imagine if the room service food is similar or if this was special for the event.
The service of the waitstaff was far below par for this event, too. They looked so pensive and were not friendly. We tried multiple times to get the attention of them to refill our water glasses, and they proceeded to give us attitude when we had to remind them that we had been waiting. I did not see one waitress smile or make you feel welcome the entire duration of the event. There were several people at any given time, so dodging people was hard enough, but the staff would also cut you off and walk in front of you and it happened all too often. I am very petite and I understand they need to work quickly, but at least saying «excuse me» or acknowledging that you stepped in front of someone and apologizing goes a long way. If I were a manager of the coordinating events, I would step it up and ensure your staff is polite and know basic manners for one. I can live with food not being the best, but rude service is not something I put up with.
Aside from that, I was amazed by the beauty of the garden courtyard and wish I had a room that overlooked that if I were a guest. It was a snowy weekend, and the snow with the small twinkle lights created a gorgeous view for the event.
I hope to stay here in the future, but for now, I have the memories of the beauty of the Grand America.

From the travertine and marble everywhere to the impeccable service this is a treat.
The spa has an indoor pool and hot tub and steam and dry saunas. Wonderfully appointed you can relax there all day and the massages are phenomenal.
I have not yet figured out how the staff know your name but they do.
I needed a meeting room early this morning and they opened the business center for me.
The trees have lights on every branch all the way to the tips. This is a spectacular hotel and a must stay if you can afford it.

Service was poor especially for a nice hotel.
Waitress spilled my tea all over the floor filling up the tea pot. Spilled my sons all over the table then spilled the hot Watter in my wife’s lap and all over her dress. CLASSY
The rest of the survive was slow
When we went to leave I got the bill
$ 226.53 which includes 32.40 gratuity for 8
The problem is there was only six of us
After finding someone to fix the bill for 6 people
$ 166.12
Food was good my first tee was cold the rest were hot even though she spilled it all over everywhere
Poor service I guess that’s why they include the tip they want to make sure they get the tip no matter how poor the service is!!!

This hotel is much nicer than any other hotel in the salt lake valley. Earl Holding built it as a «gift» to Salt Lake as the Winter Olympics were set to come to town in 2002. My room was large (800+ sf) and well appointed including a bowl of fresh fruit. The hotel would have cost 50−100% more in other major cities of they even had a hotel of this quality. Sunday Bruch is spectacular and the everyday breakfast buffet was as good as it gets.

This place is so magical over Christmas time! Even if you aren’t staying here I highly recommend stopping in and checking out all the beautiful window displays. They also have activities for kids to participate and explore the palace. They have high tea which seemed like a reasonable price too. Lastly, this is a great place for pictures. They have a beautiful courtyard and design for backdrops.

We stayed this time at the hotel and next day went to sunday brunch.
The room was so cozy and really wide. I just didnt like the pillows (uncomfortable) and the sheets were kinda like paper feeling. Service was really good tho.
Next morning we had reservation for sunday brunch. And before i say anything, dont get me wrong, I LOVE SUNDAY BRUNCH buffet but it is really interesting how people get a table before you (and we had a reservation) and many didnt have a reservation, but apparentely they «knew» the staff because they all were happy to have them there. I am just wondering if making a reservation is worth it or not since couple without reservations came after us and got a table before us. Even parties for 4 or 6

This is one of my families favorite thing to do! It is tradition to go for Easter and Halloween. We love going to tea at the grand America. This time it was witches tea and the menu was new and so good. I love that they have so many varieties of finger sandwiches and deserts! Who would think something so yummy would fill you up so much and taste so good?! We loved everything they served us. We got coconut almond hot chocolate and mint and it was delicious with fresh whip cream. They were so sweet when they found out it was my moms birthday in Halloween they surprised her with a cupcake and candles and had the harpist okay happy birthday to her. We loved it!
We love the atmosphere and just how beautiful the hotel is.
Side note Valet is for free and they validate for parking to when you eat there. Bonus!

Besides amazing service, facilities, and décor, you know a hotel rates 5 stars if it has turn down service with chocolate, a fully stocked mini bar, palacios suites, and stellar views. The Grand America does not disappoint.
A great lobby bar that makes perfect Pisco Sours that are enjoyed while you listen to live harp music adds to the feeling of decadence as well as formal afternoon tea served with all of the traditional fare.
Describing this hotel/​spa to a friend, I pretty much summed up my feelings when I told him that I felt like I needed a Tuxedo to use the restroom.

I’ve been to several events here (tea/​massage at the spa/​wedding reception) which were all wonderful experiences. Hopefully I will be able to stay here soon. Parking is convenient. Beautiful lobby!

There is a certain elegance to the Grand America that is incomparable to other properties. Though I have yet to stay at this gorgeous property myself, I have been fortunate to attend events here on a yearly basis and engage with their staff to some degree. The beauty upon walking in is striking. Wood finishes, colorful textiles, polite staff — it has all the traits of thee best hotel in Utah.
From what I’ve gathered, the food and the views here are spectacular! Several courses of steak, chicken, vegetarian options, delectable desserts, a lounge, and then various boutiques. This is fit for a romantic rendezvous or a family-​friendly getaway. Truly, this is one of my favorite places for the visual pleasure it offers and the unforgettable gatherings I have attended. I’ll definitely update to a five once I’ve had the full five diamond experience, here at the Grand America Hotel.

Checked in this afternoon on our way back from Grand Teton park to celebrate wedding anniversary. The hotel is grand, pricey and empty. Well that’s my conjecture based on seeing empty lounge area, the parking barely had any car on level one, the bar area had just two tables occupied. It felt that way unless they have all the guests who prefer to remain in the room.
Housekeeping — I would give top marks but the major glitch was in the shower area. The glass door would not close properly letting all the water to flow to the floor creating a big mess literally. Evening turn down service lady (Mariana I think) did a good job and cleared all the mess, changed the bath mat etc but I know it will happen again in the morning so not happy about it.
Reception — yes polite and smiley.
Bell desk– didn’t use them but I happened to seek permission to photograph the beautiful property through my lens professionally. Since my husband had to work I thought I better utilize time by doing what best I do i. e photography for
. The gentleman at the bell desk phoned his manager who said there is a fee of $ 250 for Inhouse guest if I want to take pictures professionally… Wow! It’s the first time I have ever heard this ridiculous policy. I mean I would have used those pictures to add to my review, my website, my facebook page which has over 2100 likes from people all around the world mainly from England, San Francisco, India (3 continents) but now they would not get that kind of reach. Perhaps they do not care about it so be it but it’s completely outrageous. Just to add the camera gear I use is full frame mirror less Sony a7ii with 35 mm lens with a carbon fibre tripod which to any professional photographer is the tiniest and most unobtrusive gear. I did show this to the chap at bell desk and declared it yes it’s professional but not like giant Nikon d800 or canon 5d mark iii with telephoto lenses. The idea was to simply take still images of hotel and do a review like this one I am doing right not with more positive note. They lost me both as guest as well as an advocate forget about the photography.

Stayed at the Grand American last week on a business trip. INCREDIBLE! You feel like you are at a 5 star hotel in Europe. The marble floors are beautiful and there is a huge flower arrangement in the center of the lobby on a table when you walk in that changes weekly. From the service to the décor, everything was perfect. The staff is super friendly and so polite. Ask and it’s yours. The room was beautiful and very clean and the view from my balcony overlooking the courtyard garden was breathtaking! I only have one very small complaint and that is there are no coffee makers in the rooms. You have to ask for one and they will bring it to you. They do have free coffee in the lobby from 4 am — 6 am. After 6, you have to go into the bar area and pay for it. A bit annoying but that’s all I can say negative about the experience of staying at this beautiful hotel.

To stay at The Grand America was well out of our budget, and I missed the window (far in advance) to nab reservations for their «Breakfast with Santa.» Even their regular Sunday Brunch was completely booked. Still, we really wanted to see this hotel during Christmas, so we just headed over to explore and tour the holiday window displays.
To say I was impressed is an understatement. Never have I seen such exquisite attention to detail outside of Disneyland. First, the hotel is vast, and exploring all of it was quite an adventure! Every corner of the property was beautifully decorated for the holidays, and their famous window displays were not the only thing to see! Several Christmas trees stood guard over different areas, each of them with a different design theme. (My favorite was the Peacock Tree.) The courtyard was lit up, with the largest tree in the center, making for an inspiring photo opportunity.
Shopping in the hotel is a pleasure, albeit a pricey one. We couldn’t resist the lovely bakery, stopping in for a coffee and some macaroons. Husband carried away the «Hazelnut Bomb» to eat later, and it really was… d’bomb (harhar). We also really enjoyed JouJou, their amazing toystore!
The reason for our visit – the windows – were well worth the trip. In fact, from the amount of people circulating throughout the hotel, viewing the holiday windows seems to be a tradition for a lot of people in SLC. Upon entering the hotel, kids can pick up a map/​scavenger hunt from the display. From there, they have to visit all the different areas of the hotel where the windows are to complete their hunt, at which point they can make their way to the GIGANTIC gingerbread house to receive their prize (cookies). It was a really wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit!
I would definitely want to stay here if I had the money, and I was sad not to take advantage of the gorgeous lounge or get to take part in one of their dining experiences, but even so, a visit to The Grand America, even just for looking around, is time well spent. This type of aesthetic and customer service are from another age, and it’s worth experiencing for yourself.

I recently visited the Grand America Hotel just to dine in the lobby for their Afternoon Tea. Immediately after we pulled the car towards the valet, we were treated very attentively and with a type of courtesy you don’t often receive elsewhere. We were treated as patrons of the hotel even though our stay was limited to a few hours.
The Afternoon Tea is served in the back of the lobby straight through the main doors, so it was easy to find. There were tables full of women and with live harp music playing in the background, the ambiance was elegant and classy. After giving our reservation name, we were seated in the corner section that had a love seat and three large comfy chairs around a glass coffee table that was perfect for our party of 5.
Our server was excellent and took the time to explain the many tea varieties and the difference between the Afternoon Tea ($ 24) and the Grand Traditions ($ 42) menu. The Grand Traditions menu includes a glass of champagne and a fruit and cheese plate which is what everyone in my party chose. I also took the server’s recommendation of the Celebration tea which was a black variety and had a nice spice to it. The passion green tea was also very good. Out of the strawberries and crème, cheese plate, five finger sandwiches, and scones, my favorite part of the food was dessert. Everything was hand crafted and presented beautifully. I’d be happy to return again and am adding The Grand America Hotel to my bucket list of places to stay overnight.

*spa, toy store, boutique, French pattiserie, afternoon tea service all on property
*perfect in town location walkable to tons of restaurants and local landmarks
