Specialties
Formerly known as Air Force Village, Blue Skies of Texas is a nonprofit retirement community with two campuses in San Antonio — the first in an urban, active setting near Lackland Air Force Base, and the second in the laid-back Hill Country.
We offer a gracious retirement lifestyle, a rich array of services and amenities, and maintenance-free residences in a variety of sizes and styles. Flexible financial options are designed to suit your budget and lifestyle, including an exciting life care plan for greater cost predictability. And with our full continuum of on-site health care, if ever needed, you can feel secure about your future knowing you’ll have access to quality, compassionate care by trusted professionals.
With an urban feel, Blue Skies of Texas East (formerly Air Force Village I) offers independent living in mid– and high-rise apartments with beautiful views of the cityscape and countryside, as well as innovatively-designed apartments on a hilly landscape.
Also on campus is assisted living, with private apartments and friendship suites. Short– and long-term skilled nursing and rehabilitation is available to residents as well as anyone who lives in the greater metropolitan area.

History
Established in 1970.
Air Force Village I opened in 1970 and earned national distinction in 1987 as the first military retirement community to be accredited by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission. Still a non-profit community, in 2014, Air Force Village I became Blue Skies of Texas East, and Air Force Village II became Blue Skies of Texas West. Formerly a military retirement community, Blue Skies of Texas is now open to all seniors, regardless of military affiliation.
