Cherry Street Framing

I wish I knew what happened to this place. They did such a great job on a project of mine a few years back and now every time I try to return, the place is locked up tight. The phone mailbox is full so you can’t leave a message. I had such a great experience the first time around but… how can a customer return?

Update: It’s now end of December and I still do not have my prints (they were supposed to be ready end of September). I’ve been told 3 times in Nov they would be done «by the end of the week.» I went to the store in person because for a couple of weeks I only got a busy signal and thought they went out of business… and was told «end of the week.»
Two weeks ago I asked for my prints back and the man who answered the phone was angry and said he would call me back on Tuesday because he’s too busy to talk. Never heard from him on Tuesday. I called them again today… answering machine.
They’re totally disorganized and really need to be upfront with their customers. I do not trust them and would not recommend them to anyone.

Tried to get a reprint framed. Hours say they are open at 10:30am, was there about 10:45/10:50am and the door was locked. Tried to call because I saw a light on, but the phone rang busy. Ended up going to Old County Custom Framing a few minutes drive away…

I had a great experience bringing in my print to Janet at Chery Street Custom Framing. I brought it in on a Saturday afternoon and was provided with very friendly customer service, a very reasonable price and SAME DAY SERVICE (mind you I came in after 12 on Saturday, since they close at 4:30 I was very impressed).
It appears that some other customers had to wait a while for their framing, but from what I can tell that was during a period when the owner was quite ill and it’s not easy to operate a small business.
Having a small, locally owned business providing exceptional customer experiences is something that I cherish about the area and Cherry Street Framing clearly exemplifies this. If you have framing needs, I would encourage you to call or stop on by, I was sure glad that I did.

Twice I have taken very sentimentally valuable pieces to Janet at Cherry Street Framing and both times she framed them with perfection. The first was a watercolor I painted for my husband, and being the procrastinator that I am, I walked into Janet’s shop on the afternoon of my husband’s birthday asking her to frame it — in one hour! And not only did she drop everything to get this done for me, she made the picture so beautiful I was proud and delighted to present it to my husband, even though I am an amateur painter at best. Today I picked up two framed newspaper pages from the SF Chronicle the day after the Giants won the World Series. These are gifts for my son who is coming home from college in Ohio. They are simply gorgeous and I am so excited to see his reaction when he walks into his bedroom and sees them hanging on the wall. Thank you Janet — I will not go anywhere else for framing projects.

Janet is back and she delivered on an excellent work as always. She was very helpful, caring about her work and kept me up to date on what was going on. This is my second time coming to Cherry Street Framing to get new and old prints framed. I am really happy with my pieces. Thank you Janet!

It’s been a little less than 2 months since I initially posted the review, and today we received our framed artwork. I wanted to update because they did a wonderful job with the framing, including a stunning frame restoration (it was an old, beat-​up frame, and looks amazing now). The material quality and craftsmanship of the rest of the work was also very high — acid-​free mats, good corner cuts, good joins on the frames, care taken with the type of glass, and Janet made nice color choices to match the prints.
They also very generously didn’t charge due to the delay in framing! Janet says that they’re catching up on the backlog of work, so hopefully the turn-​around time will start improving. Based on this and another beautiful framing job they did for our wedding, as long as you’re not in a hurry, Cherry Street Framing is good a place to go for high-​quality work.

Horrible experience! Brought 3 paintings in for framing and told 2 – 3 weeks, that was 4 months ago. The store was never open as stated for hours of operation with many attempts. When the message machine wasn’t full, a message was left requesting status. Finally when a return call was received there was always an excuse why they weren’t done and that they would have them done in a week. Never happened. Finally made contact after many tries in the last 3 weeks and all I wanted was to pick up my unfinished art. they did not want to give them up and it was only after informing them if they did not meet me at the store to return me my paintings I was going to file a theft report with the police. All 3 paintings have been returned, unhurt, and no frames. DO NOT GO HERE!!! Wish I could give 0 stars.

What a sad story. Janet is a fine artist and had become a friend. She always asked questions about where the art would be mounted and what the lighting conditions were. Finished projects always exceeded my expectations.
All that is in the past tense because she is suffering some sort of illness and it must be bad because she does not respond to phone calls or notes dropped in her mail slot. I have given up going by the shop because it’s always dark when I do so. I have given up on retrieving my prints which have been with her for nearly a year.

I should preface this review by saying that the owner has been out sick, but the management of the business during this time has been completely unprofessional. I brought in two diplomas to be framed in September. I tried checking on the status three months later in December, but the voice mail would not accept a message, nobody responded to the email listed on the business card, and I finally stopped by the shop to see an «out with illness» sign. I wrote a letter saying that I wanted my pieces back with a refund of the deposit, and I got a response (voice mail) a few weeks later (in January) saying that the owner was back and she was working on it. Not even acknowledging the fact that I wanted my pieces back — FOUR MONTHS LATER. Tried calling back, still unable to leave a voice mail. Tried stopping by during normal business hours (as listed on store front), nobody was there. Sent another letter. FINALLY managed to speak with her in person last weekend, and insisted on picking up my pieces this coming weekend, completed or not. We’ll see. I understand illness happens, but there needs to be a better back up plan, and if customers are unhappy with the service, the owner should be offering to return the pieces for a refund of the deposit without question! My other complaint is that the framing seems very overpriced, but that’s a minor issue in the grand scheme of things.

Where has Janet gone? My painting has been in her shop for two months and she has had a «closed due to illness» sign on her door?

Cherry Street Custom Framing is a fantastic place to preserve your treasured photographs and artwork, or to make these thing look spectacular.
Janet has an amazing eye and always makes excellent suggestions while keeping your budgetary concerns in mind. She has framed a number of photographs for me, some of which were gifts that ended up being very appreciated by the recipients! Her work is impeccable. I still have a poster she framed for me over 20 years ago, and it still looks as good as the day I picked it up.
I wholeheartedly recommend this place!

We found Janet and Cherry Street Framing on Unilocal.I went in and Janet had a beautiful vision of how to frame our print. Unfortunately, the vision was out of our budget. She came up with a plan B that was just as wonderful that we could afford. This woman rocks! We picked it up today and she turned our pretty print into the focal piece in our living room!
With someone like Janet in our community, I can’t imagine ever going to Michael’s or any other framing place. First of all, going to her, you get to support a local business. Second of all, Janet is an artist who will transform your print into something amazing. I cannot recommend her highly enough!!!

Janet is wonderful! She not only helped me out on the spot to beautifully frame an important photograph, she let me use her laptop on her office so I could look up a specific website. She is professional, very helpful and an expert in her field. She has my business from here on! Highly recommend!

I hadn’t had anything framed at Cherry Street until this piece, which was very special to me, as it had been done by a very close friend who had just passed away. Janet, the owner, impressed me because of the time she spent with the client AHEAD of me. Sure enough, she spent just as much time with me, making excellent suggestions and observations. The resulting piece was beautiful, definitely museum-​grade framing, something I will be able to keep for the rest of my life in souvenir of my artist friend. If you have something important to frame, this is the place to go. She cares, and it shows.

I have had several paintings framed by Janet, the owner of the shop and her work and ethics are wonderful. She listens to what you have to say about the art work and offers options she feels will work for the piece. I wouldn’t take my paintings to any other frame shop. She is truly the best.

The best customer service, and a very fair price compare to other two frame shops that I had taken my painting to for a quote. Janet did an outstanding job cleaning some mold on the glass of a valuable painting i have. A breath of fresh air to deal with a small store owner and receive such great customer service!

Over the past 15 years, Janet framed nearly all the artwork in our home. She always knows what will look beautiful and her work is impeccable. It is a real treat to go to Cherry Street Framing.

Love this shop, Janet is very skilled and truly an artist when it comes to her work. Things are done in collaboration with you as the customer, with careful listening and recommendations to assist you with getting just exactly what you want. My husband would bring back art work, unframed, from all of his trips around the world, and then we would bring them to Janet for framing. We have never been disappointed, and in fact always delighted. This place is a true find.
