Our mission is to provide enchanting, memorable and fun-​filled experiences through role playing and make believe!

We offer:

— Costume rentals for adults and children

— Unique theme-​based parties, where the birthday child is the Star

— Theater arts programs for children — perfect for play groups

— The Traveling Photo Op Booth, so your guests can dress up for photos at your next party

Established in 2002.

Cynthia’s evolved from two sources: our annual Halloween Extravaganza, and over two decades of experience developing children’s programs.

After 25 years in the software industry, primarily as a technical writer, my business has allowed me to tap into my passion for developing fun, educational, and memorable programs for children.

I have also been a performing member of the Community Street Jam hip hop dance troupe since 1992, and am the proud mom of Cat and grandmother of Eva.

Amazing collection of unique costumes and accessories! Cynthia’s Costumes has indeed been the best kept secret of San Carlos! Whether it’s Halloween, a school project requiring role playing/​dressing up or a themed holiday event, I just call Cynthia in advance to make an appointment (she’s not open regular hours, so don’t just stop by), I tell her what I“m looking for and when I get there, she has suggestions already assembled. She’s most definitely underpriced but that goes with her not-​ideal location on the second story of a business building.
Plan in advance and make time to see her and you’ll have a great experience. She’s accommodating, humble, sincere and she’s in this business because she loves it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Here’s what you need to know about Cynthia’s:
— It’s not your typical costume shop, open during regular business hours
— You need to schedule an appointment to meet with Cynthia
— Her shop is located in a medical office building, a little difficult to find
— Looks like Cynthia makes custom costumes — really cool!
Therefore, you should not do what I did yesterday and just stop by. Bad idea! No one was there

If I could give Cynthia more stars, I would!
I’m a BIG Halloween fanatic, I normally buy costumes and spend about $ 200 — $ 300 on them. I like to go all out for Halloween or any costumed event that comes up. I don’t want to or like half-​assing costumes. If I’m gonna dress up as Ursula from The Little Mermaid, I don’t want people wondering what I am. At times, I’ve not been able to achieve the look I wanted on my own dime and need to rent a costume and was surprised to find that I was paying the same amount to RENT a costume as I was to buy one… perplexing.
Until I found Cynthia’s Costumes. She has great prices, an amazing selection and she is incredibly helpful. She will get you in a high quality costume for an even better price. It’s a no brainer…
I HIGHLY recommend her to any costume/​dress up need anyone may have. We have already resolved to make Cynthia’s Costumes our only source for costumes from now on.

This review is long overdue. I was referred to Cynthia from a friend who had a theme party for her 3-​year-​old. Everyone there (including the face-​painter) looked amazing in their attire… from head to toe.
Months later I was invited to a formal vintage theme party. First I tried thrift stores, but came up short. I didn’t have the time or imagination to pull off something good last-​minute. And I didn’t have the money to shop retail for something I was going to wear once. Then I remembered Cynthia’s Closet! I called with very little time before my party (THAT EVENING), and despite her busy schedule, she made time to personally help me through the process. I came out with a gorgeous gown, shoes, and a hat (for $ 45 total). I received many compliments at the party and passed on the referral to others.
Her closet (really an entire apartment FULL of everything under the sun!) is a gem in the peninsula. Whatever you may need, start with Cynthia first! :-)
