Durk Hong, DDS

Dr. Hong and Stephanie make a great team. Every teeth cleaning sesh’ is flawless while Dr. Hong’s ortho work is amazing to boot. Extra props to Dr. Hong and his team for clearing his schedule for me a few years back when a baseball found its way into my mouth at 85mph. Flawless work.

Dr Hong is absolutely wonderful. Made me feel at ease although I was very nervous. His office mgr, Stephanie is amazing. Always friendly and kind. Very helpful in getting my appts scheduled and even when I had to reschedule, she was able to fit me in last min on a different day. The office is clean and well kept. So glad to have found this place.

He has got to be the best dentist out. My boyfriend hasn’t really been keeping up with his oral health and we decided to begin saving up money. We came across Dr. Hong and made a appointment. We arrived at his office and were greeted by his receptionist Stephanie who was really nice, friendly and welcoming. My BF kind of had a fear of dentist but she made us feel as if we had been going there for years with her warm greeting and informative demeanor, he filled out the paperwork for consent and Dr. Hong, determined that my boyfriend needed A Root Canal & 2 Crowns, he explained the process very clearly to him and he was ready to go, he said that Dr. Hong was very gentle and informative each step he explained what he was doing, he said it was completely painless and Dr. Hong made it a point to keep asking if he was comfortable.
He did the Root Canal & took a mold of my boyfriend’s teeth and put on the temp crowns and we were off. I was happy with the temps that’s how natural they looked, being that they were his front right tooth and right side tooth he never smiled or rarely showed his teeth more on that later. Stephanie set us up with a time & date to come back about 2.5 weeks out from our initial appointment and explained what the procedure was the next time we came. My Boyfriend was so happy he even suggested that maybe I should get a cleaning & x-​rays when he came back for his permanent crowns. I only wish we got a before picture so that I could show the before and after now.
We returned and he got his permanent crowns put on WOW I was as happy as he was and haven’t seen him smile this much in our 7 years of dating ;-) He looked like a new person, it was just like all the commercials you see when someone gets there teeth done and are smiling uncontrollably lol. Next was my turn I have to say the same thing about Dr. Hong he was very informative and let me know what was going on with me also. He did a cleaning which was painless and much needed and I even found out I needed to have a few cavities filled which I will be returning to do within the next month.
Overall it was a great experience yes I said a GREAT experience at a dentist. From the front desk to the back room we can say that this was totally worth the 1hr drive we make to see him and he has the cutest little doggies in the office that are friendly and welcome you there also. We will be back and would recommend him to anyone.

Dr. Durk and his front desk staff were professional. I was referred to him from 1 – 800 dentist as I needed emergency dental care and my insurance was about to run out a few years ago. I had several major dental work done while I was there in a short time. My canine was severely decayed and he gave me the options of either trying to save the tooth or extract it. He was leaning towards extraction, so I agreed. The extraction was quick and relatively painless. It wasn’t until after the extraction that he explained since it was an elective procedure, I would be responsible for the entire costs. I explained to him and his staff that I wanted to take advantage of the insurance benefits while I had them. I felt like I was the one taken advantage of in this situation.
He also extracted the problematic tooth that I originally came in to see him about. He made a bridge. There was excessive material left on the bridge which collected food and bacteria. Since I moved out of the area, I couldn’t go back to him for follow up care. I end up having the entire bridge redone within 2 years by another dentist.
Dr. Durk performed all the teeth cleaning and procedures himself. He did not employ anyone else besides the office manager/​front desk/​billing person. If he hasn’t yet, he needs to hire assistants. Again, I felt that this lack of additional staff was because he does not want to pay the additional staff and keep all the money to himself.

I have had so many bad experiences with dentist my whole life. I feared going to the dentist even if it was just for a cleaning. Dr Hong was recommended after having a such a bad experience at millenium dental. The other dentist’s treatment plan was to pull out my tooth and told me it could not be saved. I was unhappy with his treatment plan and a fee they were charging me after they rescheduled my appt. Dr Hong was recommended by my sister. Dr hongs office is so welcoming and so is his staff. Dr hong was able to save my tooth and is very gentle. His office is nice and quiet and never waiting. I have been going to him for about 3 years and I recommend him to anyone and everyone. He is the best!!!

I am sorry to lose Dr Hong as my DDS (I recently moved). I went to him as I decided I needed a 2^nd opinion after another local DDS told my I needed to have all my gums lasered.
After insurance would have paid its $ 2000, I would have still been on the hook for $ 900.
Why I went for the 2^nd opinion is that up until that time my gums had been perfect and I could not figure out how they had deteriorated so severely in 6 months.
Dr Hong did a 2^nd opinion consultation and told my gums were still perfect and that the other DDS had probably gotten a new laser machine and needed to pay for it.
I immediately changed to Dr Hong and really liked him as a DDS. It is SO hard to find excellent DDSs so I want to make sure if you are looking for a good one, you will feel confident picking him and will be very happy with your choice!

I have been seeing Dr. Hong for over 20 years. His practice has been «out of network» for a while now and the insurance won’t cover as much but I wouldn’t think of changing dentists. He has always been very courteous and professional to me and I highly recommend him if you are in the area.

I have an inherent fear of dentists, but Dr. Hong has gained my trust as he is patient, considerate, a good listener and most importantly doesn’t pressure you into anything you don’t feel comfortable with.

I’ve been going to Dr. Hong for over 15 years now. He’s a great dentist. I convinced my husband to switch over to him over 10 years ago. Now both my kids go to him and we prefer him over any pediatric dentist we’ve seen. He’s honest, kind, quick and very thorough.
I recommend him to anyone looking for a dentist in the area.

I don’t like dentists — or at least I didn’t like dentists. Let me explain.. .
While active service in San Diego many moons ago I got sucker punched and my jaw was broken. I went to the hospital to receive «treatment» and received over 30 shots in the side, roof, under the tongue, etc. You name a place in my mouth, there was a needle stuck there. I passed out twice, had a student dentist mess up the wires and have to redo them SEVERAL times.
This left a very bad taste in my mouth. (Oh COME ON! That’s an AWESOME pun!)
Being that I was in the submarine service it was mandatory to get my wisdom teeth removed. I managed to avoid for over 8 years and left the military with my wisdom teeth intact. Because I HATED dentists.
Flash forward to a few years ago, I’m doing my private pilot’s license and fly up to see a friend in Calusa, Ca. He gives me some carrots he grew — delicious carrots — delicious carrots that ended up cracking one of those coveted wisdom teeth.
I had no choice. I had to go see a dentist.
I don’t know how I found Dr. Hong, but I am glad I did. After telling him the story, telling him I didn’t like him, I didn’t like dentists, he better knock me out before working on the tooth, did I mention I didn’t like dentists or him?
Dr. Hong listened. Cared. Understood. Allayed my fears. Gave me a local anesthetic and removed the wisdom tooth with a pair of rusty pliers (KIDDING!) — He removed the tooth PAINLESSLY and has been my dentists ever since.
I have recommended Durk to several people and welcome any questions you might have. I am giving him the coveted 5 star Unilocal review.
