A&K Hair Nails Spa

I have known Mai since I was 14yrs old. I’m 28 now. You do the math… Her service has always been nothing less than excellent. The prices at A& K are great and the staff is always friendly and willing to help. They are the only people I let touch my hands.

HORRIBLE experience. I was waiting for 50 Mins soaking my feet waiting for the lady to start my pedicure, when ask how much longer she started mumbling and replied 5 more minutes … NO AC, Dirty carpets, Old chairs with fabric falling off and POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AVOID AT ALL COST.

I really hate to make bad reviews. I just can’t help it with this one.
I went to this nail place on a whim with my friend who is moving out of the country next week and she wanted to get a pedicure and it was by her house. (I have my regular go-​to places where I live, which is nowhere near this place.)
That being said, I sucked it up when I saw what we were walking into because I wanted to spend time with my friend and not make a fuss about what we were walking into.
This place is the filthiest place I have ever set foot into (literally). Dusty, broken chairs, smelly, dirty… you name it, this place was it all.
The man who was giving me my pedicure did not stop each time I basically screamed when he was doing my cuticles and scraping so hard, I thought my toe altogether was going to break off from it.
Not that it matters since this is not where I live, but I will never go back to this place. I feel like a health code violation of some sorts is actually needed here to shut it down.

Mai is my go to lady for my French tip gel manicure, the materials she uses on my nails are top notch I come in for my appointment once every 3 – 4 weeks!!! She also waxes a mean eyebrow making them look on «Fleek» (I hate this word but it’s the best way to get my point across) ;0) David also does an amazing job on my eyebrows and once I experienced watching him perform a hair cut that came out amazing. Pedicures by Loan are a must, a month later the polish hasn’t chipped. I would suggest making an appointment, although they take walk ins this shop gets really busy.

Okay, I must admit my rating is biased because I have known Mai (the one in the front, right next to reception desk) for a long time. She used to work at Dani Salon on Fairmont and University. She has always conducted herself in a professional manner and does great work. The other woman there who does pedicures does a great job too. They have massage chairs for spa pedicures and always have the TV on something good.
Its not the fanciest or very big but they do a good job, and that’s what matters. Mai has been doing my and my aunt’s nails for years. We followed her to the new location, along with some of her other clients — that says a lot! My nails will still look like good two weeks from now, when most places they only last one week.
If you’re looking for a great deal on pampering yourself or a loved one, but don’t want to skimp on quality, give this place a try at least.

I caught one of the workers using toilet scrubber to clean the pedicure bucket before my wife got on that chair. And then he tried to lie by saying he used some cleaning chemicals to clean with it, and clearly I showed my wife the scrubber he used from the bathroom. Never going back to this place. I feel like Muslims are hated everywhere we go but what I seen today was awful. I hate to post a bad review, and I’ve never posted a bad review ever.

I was seen quickly. The service was done quickly, and it is hard to mess up an underarm wax service. I needed to have a quick wax and I was in the area and still open after 5pm. The price was about what I normally see. The man who took care of me was wearing a dirty shirt, didn’t say anything, didn’t change out the towel on the table. The wax was already on AND he left the door open. Hello, you are about to do a waxing service, close the door. I closed the door then looked at the towel. He told me to lay down. I grabbed a paper towel and laid on top of that. Looking up I can see dirt and stains and spots on the ceiling with spider webs all over the ceiling making their way down the wall. Remember, waxing station. He double dipped the waxing stick! So it went from the waxing pot to skin (with hair), then back to the pot. Underarm isn’t that serious but those getting wax services anywhere else on their body and this is a huge health issue and just plain nasty. No thanks and never again.

Big guy here and was not looking for nail work, callous removal and some TLC for the feet. Received good service, and worth the price. Not the highest quality I’ve gotten, but still got what I was looking for.

STAY FAR AWAY! Run!!! Definitely the worst nail shop in San Diego, Ca. I went to get a full set, there was only 3 people working & it took almost 2hrs for her to finish with another customers nails & help me. This was my first time going to this nail shop and it was definitely the worst!!! She messed up my nails made them too short, which I paid $ 5 for her to fix and make longer… She glued another nail on top of the nail she previously glued on. Meaning the nail was barely hanging on and would break if you did the slightest thing. I left and broke 2 nails less than 2hrs of leaving the nail shop. I went back the next day. Still 3 people working and she told me to come back in an hour & she could help me. I went to another nail shop & they said my nails were horrible almost all the nails broke off and I’ve had to get 6 out of 10nails repaired by another nail shop! Whew!!! THIS IS A WARNING. STAY FAR AWAY!!! You can find a better nail shop, forsure! SCAMMERS!!!

Terrible. awful… went here for the first time today and will never go back. My cuticles were barely cut (and super sloppy) and when I asked that she (he? — i really couldn’t tell) cut them some more, she went to town on them. It was painful! She made one bleed badly. Nail shape was awful too. The whole manicure was really rough. A couple of my nails hurt as I write this. I’m feeling too lazy to go into great detail but there was a lot that was wrong about my mani and pedi. Pedi was a little better than the mani only bc I had someone else doing the pedi. Pedi was still not great. I go to nice nail salons normally but went here in a rush today — BIG MISTAKE! Also, not a single other customer in there the entire time I was there. The only ok thing about this place is the two nail technicians were at least nice.

Save yourself… I’ve been coming here for quite some time. I came across this place last year when paying my cellphone bill at the building next to it.
I wasn’t an avid user of Unilocal at the time so I didn’t know this place had 2 stars. They were friendly and the prices were cheap.
I probably came here 5+ times to get manicures, pedicures, and eyebrow wax. Each time, I was happily greeted and left happy with how my nails looked. The lady who I assume owns the place (she has short hair) waxes my eyebrows really well.
I came in today because my pinky nail broke– almost deep in my nail bed. I didn’t touch it because I wanted a «professional» to fix it… I thought wrong. Yes, they are good at what they do– painting nails within the nail borders, putting lotion on your hands and feet, and using acrylic powder to make nails longer. I guess there was a miscommunication (they have limited English) which I can understand, but after today, I’m never going back.
I had long stiletto shaped nails when I came in and I wanted my broken pinky nail to have the same height with all my nails. Wasn’t sure if applying the acrylic powder would be okay to put on my broken nail, and I showed the broken part. She assured me that she can fix it. So, she put the acrylic powder on my broken nail without clipping it so the nail isn’t hanging out. She then started nipping at my cuticles and made my pinky with the broken nail bleed. She wiped it like it was nothing and moved on to my other fingers. I felt uncomfortable and like she didn’t care. At this point, I was a bit furious but I mean it’s a common mistake and I silently forgave her.
As a recent regular customer, or even if it’s your first time… Isn’t the nail lady’s job is to make sure the customer leaves happy? I first told her I’d like to even out my pinky nail with all my nails so she put the acrylic powder. Then I saw how she carelessly put the powder and filed my nail so hard that it felt like my real nail can come off at any moment. I was so scared about my broken nail underneath this mess so I told her to take it off. And she seemed pissed but oh well.
The last straw was when she started clipping my pinky nail and freaking clipped it down to my nail bed! The same freaking pinky nail that I told her was broken. And of course it freaking bled. I cried, she didn’t even say sorry (maybe she doesn’t know the word?), and she looked at me surprised.
I’m never going back there again. Horrible experience. I would give at least one star for great eyebrow waxing, but my bleeding pinky disagrees.

I decided to walk over here to get a quick mani & Pedi yesterday. It was pretty slow, so they were able to help me right away. Mimi did my pedicure, great job, however the guy who did my nails used waaayy too much acrylic. The nails were so bulky, that one of my nails broke off the SAME DAY! I went back today and Mai not only replaced the broken nail, she thinned out the acrylic, and also added shellac, normally $ 25, free of charge in lieu of the bad experience. Mai did good job on my nails the second time around. They definitely redeemed themselves, so this place is ok in my book. I would recommend SCHEDULING an appt w/​MAI beforehand!

My wife gave this place a chance. But will never go again. The staff isn’t friendly, it was not very clean, and the equipment want cleaned properly. While she was there, a lady waked in and said she was there a few days ago and said her nails came off. The products must be cheap. Stay away from this place.

So I went back today so they could fix my nails. I was told mia would fix them. Turns out she wasnt there and I got the same guy. He honestly didnt do a great job again and then tried to charge me $ 5. Umm no… so he wanted me to pay more than he qouted before his mess up. Never go to this place. EVER!!!

I got acrylics and they look like pistachio shells on my fingers. She put too much powder and gave terrible nail shape. She said it was the shape of my nail! Seriously??? My nails are not shaped like pistachios!!! Now they are!
I’m looking for a place to fix them now:(
PS I think the woman who wrote the only positive review is the same woman that works there and did my nails! Her name was Mai. Customer beware!

I have been here several times and received good service. This time, unfortunately, I had the kind of service that will keep me from ever going back. The woman who did my pedicure was wonderful and did a very good job.
The man, however, who did my manicure, filed my nails as if he were trying to sand a piece of wood down. He filed TWO different nails down so far that he ripped the skin on my nail bed, causing me to recoil and gasp in pain. He then doused them with alcohol which was incredibly painful. After the first time he did it I patiently let him continue. After the second time, I asked for someone else to finish.
The same woman who did my pedicure finished up my manicure and did the best she could, given two nails were beyond repair. She was patient and nice.
I was very surprised, at the end of it all, when they charged me for the manicure.
On the plus side: The place is never crowded (this might be why) and inexpensive (if you don’t get charged for your hacked up fingers) and If you get the woman, it could be a decent experience.
