We work with our customers to help you have an easier and smarter move that is convenient and budget conscious. We rent out clean and sanitized, eco-​friendly tote boxes for people who are moving or renovating their homes or businesses.

We deliver, you pack and move, and we collect — saving you time, effort and money during a typically stressful period. Free delivery and collection up to 25 miles! No need for packing tape or bubble wrap — our sturdy boxes are self-​sealing and come pre-​assembled and good to go.

History

Established in 2013.

One of our friends had to move suddenly and did not know where to turn. After she had spent over $ 200 on boxes, tape and bubble wrap and had not even made a dent in packing her house up, she looked on-​line and saw that there were other rent-​a-​box companies, but none in the San Diego Region.

Hence — A Smart Move was born, offering the community reusable plastic moving boxes and supplies to your home or office.

Lindsay Curtis, originally from the UK, started A Smart Move when she saw a gap in the market.

Having moved 5 times in 7 years she thought there must be a better, more eco-​friendly, cheaper & stress free way to move.

Hence renting out eco-​friendly boxes came to mind.

What could be easier than clean, sanitized boxes arriving at your door and once you move — them being taken away? Its really a no-​brainer.

The money spent on the boxes gets ‘re-​couped’ as the time saved with the moving companies is normally a fixed hourly spend and as the boxes are all uniform — wheeling them on and off the truck saves around 1 – 2 hours of the movers times — hence you get your money back.

We loved this service. Simple pricing, they delivered to our house (right on scheduled time), we loaded everything up and moved to the new house, then they came and picked them up the same day I called! Really impressive service and very useful boxes.

These boxes made my life so easy. We bought a house and dreaded all the crappy boxes and tape and stuff. My husband found these guys and we thought it’d be worth a shot. So we called, they dropped of a ton of green boxes right when they said they would, and picked them up right when they said they would. These boxes are stackable, and they have an easy close lid. We got em for three weeks. Very reasonable cost! Thank you so, so much.

I have moved far too many times and felt awful about all of the boxes I have gone through, even though I recycle them. I found A Smart Move on Craigslist. Lindsay answered all of my questions and was able to provide a MUCH better rate than her competition. This was the easiest move ever. The boxes fit everything I had, the pick ups were easy AND my moving company LOVED how easy they were to move. which shaved a lot of time off the move. I would highly recommend this company.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND USE THESE BOXES. I’m writing this review because we had such a great experience using A Smart Move’s eco-​friendly moving boxes. They made our family’s move immeasurably easier for ourselves and also for the movers we hired. We move very frequently (about once every 1.5−2 years) and I like to do the packing myself because it allows me to purge the junk we all accumulate. In the past, the absolute worst part of our moves was dealing with cardboard boxes: lugging them into our house, taping them, stacking them and worrying that they would cave in or get crushed, not being able to open them again once they’re closed, dealing with all of the leftover mess of boxes after we unpack, etc. These eco-​friendly boxes solved all of these problems and were the same or cheaper in price than us buying the cardboard ones. We could also use them for our dishes and breakables without worrying that the box would get punctured. Most of our stuff fit in the boxes and the few odd-​sized items that didn’t were dealt with by our movers. I’m not affiliated or paid by this company in any way, I’m sincerely a happy customer.

On your next move, please do yourself a favor and forget about messing around with possibly termite infested cardboard boxes and hire A Smart Move to provide you with extremely convenient and easy to open stackable bins to make packing and the mover’s job go very smoothly. The staff was very professional and flexible in terms of rental dates. My girlfriend and I moved recently from Pacific Beach to Encinitas and had a great experience using the service. An additional hidden benefit is if you are renting bins for a fixed amount of time, that offers extra motivation to finish unpacking and not have boxes sitting in the corner for weeks or months. You will not be making a mistake by hiring A Smart Move!

Why:
Moving sucks. This service makes it suck exactly 30% less. I’ll prove it. Think about cardboard boxes. You’ve got to find/​buy them, bring them home, assemble them, close them, open them, break them down, and dispose of them. And, who likes handling packing tape?
How it works:
This company drops off a load of sturdy res-​usable plastic boxes before your move, and then picks them up after your move from your new house. You choose how many and how long you need them for. The boxes close easily, have handles to help you carry them and stack perfectly. The company also loans you a special dolly to wheel around a stack securely.
My experience:
I have used them for two moves now and they provide excellent service. Lindsay and Martine were fun, friendly and reliable. And when I asked, they even provided great tips to make my move easier (like using color coded post its to label each box according to what room it goes in).

The boxes were perfect. It made moving so much easier not dealing with putting boxes together, then breaking them down and discarding them. Better choice for the environment too. The ladies at A Smart Move are very accommodating and so great to work with. Way better than cardboard boxes. They’re in and out. No extra mess to deal with once everything’s put away.

Fantastic service. Makes moving easy. They deliver and pick up the boxes when you are finished moving. No need to worry about buying dozens of boxes and then having to get rid of them. This is environmentally friendly. Great concept already recommending them to everyone I know.

Great concept, great service and great people. I reached out to A Smart Move a few weeks before my move and opted for the 50 boxes for our 2 bedroom house. We had the boxes for three weeks, which was plenty of time to get things packed up and then unpacked after the move. Delivery was on-​time and very easy since I didn’t even need to be home when they delivered. The boxes are high quality and eliminate the hassle of having to assemble tons of cardboard boxes.
The day before the scheduled box pick-​up we were surprised with the slightly early arrival of our first child. Martine was completely understanding and gave us a few extra days as a «birthday present». Communication was excellent the entire time — I 100% recommend using A Smart Move for your next move.
Tip: Label the boxes with a piece of paper and masking tape while you are packing. It makes unloading much easier/​faster.
