Need wedding privates? We cater to your needs and provide detailed attention in reaching those goals. We work with your time and schedule; match you with the right instructors, so you can deliver that magical performance either at your wedding or any other occasion

Need space for your class? We understand you have students but you may have no space for accommodations. Our facility is suitable for any Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, Fitness Bootcamp Training, or any specialty class you desire. Feel free to inquire about hosting your next party or event at our studio.

A Time To Dance Studio is centrally located in North Park: a diverse neighborhood popular for its eateries, nightclubs, arts, entertainment, and shopping. A Time to Dance is unique in that we provide a welcoming, and comfortable, learning environment, with quality instruction, and most importantly a family-​like atmosphere filled with fun and laughs.

Established in 2002.

A Time to Dance was founded in 2002 by Angel and Tulane Rivera. After 12 years of successful devotion to the art of dance, they hand-​selected Javier Avitia as their predecessor.

Kizomba instructor, DJ, and founder of Kizomba San Diego (KSD), Javier has a deep respect and passion for Latin and African dance. Javier discovered Kizomba in 2012, and since then has traveled throughout Europe to learn from the greats. As new owner of A Time to Dance, Javier continues to spread the enthusiasm and knowledge of the dance, music, and culture that is Kizomba, and by supporting all dance students in their unique learning endeavors.

It’s not often that you meet people with similar interests & get the feeling that you belong. I’ve had the pleasure of being a part of this Studio/​Family for a while now. Lets face it, no one is perfect & there are times things don’t go smoothly. From the owner to the staff & instructors you can count on being a part of something & not just a $$ sign like most places. I love the atmosphere, the subtle changes, new classes, new instructors, new website & always having others you can count on to help you advance.

A great place for friendly and effective instructions on various types of dances. It’s definitely more affordable than most other places and the quality of instruction here is one of the best in San Diego. If you want to learn some moves for the club or just to have a great evening and learn something new, this definitely a time to dance.

I just love Stephanie and Oz salsa classes! The 4 week crash course on Wednesday is a great place to get familiar with basic steps. Classes are just the right size to have individualized attention but still many different partners to dance with. If you’ve been thinking of learning salsa, A time to dance is the place and right now is the right time. See you there!

Amazing instructors for bachata, salsa, and Kizomba.
The owner is always bringing the best instructors around the world. He brought Eddy Vents from London, Lucia from Portugal, Cymeon Mopao from France, all Kizomba instructors. As well as famous salsa and bachata instructors from the U.S.
This is the place to come and learn how to dance. Also don’t miss out on the cheap membership prices.

I love this studio. Everyone is super nice and friendly and they all get along. It is one of the best studios in San Diego. The studio is centrally located and it’s the place to learn all the latest dances. Javier has some of the best instructors in town and they are all extremely dedicated to their their students.
I love how Javier wants all his students to learn from some of the best instructors in the world and going out of his way to bring them to San Diego to give workshops.

I went there to take a class of Kizomba and I wasn’t disappointed!
First, let me start with the studio. It is very clean, spacious and the lighting is great. It’s very difficult to learn a dance and follow instruction when the space is little and you can’t move. Lucky, it’s not the case in this studio. Then, it’s also awesome that there is two rooms. The smaller one allows for small groups to meet without disturbing the main room.
Secondly, I want to acknowledge the customer service. As soon as I walked through the door, the lady at the front office directed me and informed me about the class I wanted to take. I was very happy to see that their advertisement is real and that the first class is free.
Finally, I want to command Javier on his class. It was really easy to follow. He’s a great instructor.
I know that they offer a variety of classes and I will definitely go back from some bachata and salsa lessons.

This is by far the best Studio in San Diego… Javier is an amazing instructor who has so much patience! He really works hard to bring KIZOMBA to the San Diego community, by bringing international teachers and superstars DJs! All of the classes taught at A Time to Dance have a «All stars» line up for Salsa, bachata etc. I also love the friendly atmosphere; I met so many great friends here as the studios regularly host social events. It has the perfect location, parking is good too! Overall, A time to Dance as the best instructors in San Diego PERIOD!!!

Really great studio. I would highly recommend it. I practice there with a team and the floor is great plus the sound system is good too. I have taken some workshops and sometimes take the On2 class with Iran Castillo. Parking is not the greatest but it is worth coming to a quality studio. Everyone is super friendly and nice. No partner is ever needed! I go by myself to everything and always meet great people and feel very welcomed.

This is a great place to learn to dance and make friends. All of the instructors are extremely nice and knowledgably and will bring their own style to the class. I recommend doing monthly membership, there is a lot of classes to choose from and you don’t want to limit yourself. ATD is also under new ownership, Javier is awesome and is bringing a lot of new variety and life to the studio!

This is the place to go. For one thing it’s the only studio in the area that offers Kizomba dance classes and workshops with international Kizomba instructors.
It’s a nice space, good instructors, cool people, with a tight knit community feeling. I come all the way down from Encinitas to attend and it’s worth it.

The Kizomba classes are amazing, in such a short time I have learnt loads! Javier is an amazing instructor and brings international well known dance instructors to do workshops. My boyfriend introduced me to Kizomba and Javier’s studio only 3 months ago and I am picking up Kizomba smashingly and my salsa & bachata dancing has grown in leaps & bounds!!! The regular patrons are friendly and encouraging & really make you feel welcome.
Javier is a doorway to all things Kizomba in the So Cal area & I would highly recommend his classes! He has a love and dedication to Kizomba that shows. The Kizomba socials he holds or suggests you attend are a must, social dancing as well as classes is the way to grow in leaps & bounds.

This place most definitely has the best instructors for Salsa & Bachata. Tien, Mambo, and Cathy are the are pretty amazing. ATTD also offers the only Kizomba class in SD. As a bonus they have a free Casino Rueda class with nonstop laughs on Thursday nights. I decided to sign up for their membership because the new instructor line-​up is so worth it. I can take unlimited classes as opposed to paying at different studios and save about $ 100 per month. The best part, though, is the camaraderie. This group and all of its members are so much fun. Ever since I joined I’m constantly at their get togethers having a great time. It’s not just a studi. it’s like family.

The new ownership gets 5 stars and then some for including KIZOMBA in the line up of dances and workshops.
They are very focused on providing a good value and QUALITY instruction. It’s rare to find dance schools that really CARE about their students and get the humility and humanity of wanting to learn more. I definitely recommend that you check it out and you will walk away with a smile. The staff is very friendly, approachable and helpful. Their Kizomba students are soooo funny and easy going that you will fall in love with the place and feel soooo at home, yet at the same time, the instructor, Javier, will challenge you to grow and BE better.
