Our facilities are complete with radiology, dentistry and an in-​house laboratory. In addition to general medicine, we offer low-​cost spay, neuter and vaccine services as well as year-​round flea, tick and heartworm prevention.

Outside specialists in fields such as cardiology, orthopedics and radiology can assist in diagnoses. History

Established in 1990.

ABC Veterinary Hospital has been providing superior medical care to San Diego for decades. The doctors and staff are dedicated to providing exceptional, compassionate, and first-​rate care to all of our clientele and their furry family members. To enhance our commitment to our clientele, we have added an online pharmacy to our website (abcvets​.com) offering the convenience of home delivery. The products are puchased and shipped from the manufacturer and are never diverted from an outside source.

Meet the Business Owner

Michael W.

Business Owner

Dr. Michael Weber is a graduate from Texas A+M University. His life-​long dream was to become a veterinarian. Dr. Weber fulfilled another life-​long dream when he moved to San Diego in 1989. His special areas of interest include internal medicine, preventative and wellness health care, dentistry, and general surgery. Dr. Weber describes himself as a «dog person», but he loves working with cats and rabbits too!

Dr. Emily Fassbaugh was born in Baltimore, MD, but has lived in San Diego most of her life. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from UC David and then graduated from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007.

Dr. Chari Wessel was born into a career military family and grew up on Navy air stations all over the country. She has practiced in San Diego since 1992 and has been a relief doctor since 2000. When she’s not working, she raises canaries and is a volunteer tall ship crew member for the Maritime Museum of San Diego.

We are so very lucky to call this place our second home. They have always answered all our questions honestly and have never tried to sell us on an idea or a treatment. Thank you for all you do you Ming-​Ming (our 3 week old Kitten) and Troy (our 5 year old yorkie). You always give us the comfort of knowing our fur-​babies are in great hands.

Took my bull terrier mix in yesterday because she got into an altercation with another dog and had three puncture wounds. knowing that I did not have the funds to pay for the full thing upfront. I was hoping that could take some sort of payment and let me do a payment plan. they were worried about the wound on her chest and said that X-​rays needed to be done to make sure that her chest cavity was not punctured. They told me that it would be $ 1,172 for everything. I told them the best I could do was 400 and if they could please work with me and give me a payment plan and told me they do not offer that. After crying and pleading and making any calls I could make to see what I could do (all while my dog is bleeding on their floor) the vet (I don’t remember her name) comes in and tells me that «I’m thinking of the well being of the pet and if you can’t not provide care for her, to surrender her to the humane society» and that she «didn’t want to put me in an awkward position». at that moment I knew that this would not be the vet I would take my dog to anymore. They could not even make one expect ion or anything to a poor dog who is hurt and bleeding on the floor. Instead they made me feel as if I was a terrible pet parent. I understand that they do need to get paid and that it is not cheap. BUT DO NOT tell me or any person who is crying their eyes out cause they can not pay $ 1,000 dollars up front that they need to surrender their pet cause they can’t «provide care» for them. Whoever the hell this Dr is she is cold and not warm or friendly and sad to say, only in it for the money. Then some vet tech Charla or whatever her name is, came to me and said «this is what we came up with for your «budget» «came out paying 100 for them to give me solution and meds cause I had no idea what to do for her. They didn’t bandage her up or anything or even clean it.
There is one vet tech that is so sweet and I forgot her name, and for that I am grateful and gave it one star, also cause it’s close. but never again will I take my pets here.

Do not take your pet here. This place is all about money and that is it. Took my dog in 6 months ago for a Heart Worm check so we could order heartguard. Now I am trying to order more heart guard and they want to see her again and will not release the prescription. They say she needs to be seen once a year. So they now want me to bring her in again though she was seen 6 months ago.
This place is a complete shake down of your wallet. DO NOT TAKE ANY ANIMAL to this place. They also made my friend pay money to watch them put down his dog. This was an extra fee just to watch and be in the room. Disgusting.

These guys were so amazing! I was so upset that my sweet baby girl was limping, in pain and not able to run by the side of my wheelchair or even ride on it:(I was very well informed of what is causing her so much pain, explained the different options I had, gave me printed info and pamphlets for other clinics that take financial assistance, even though they new they wouldn’t be the ones doing the surgery AND that it was a free 1st appointment coupon!
I really appreciate the time they spent with us, especially easing my concerns of whether it was life threatening or repairable!

This is bet vet ever! They really care about the health of my cats and they always print out what you might need done before charging you for it. I like that I can do some now and some later without them making me feel like a bad owner. The staff is always friendly both on the phone and when I go into the office. I highly recommend this facility for your pets.

I don’t know what has changed in the last year, but their prices seemed to have doubled and tripled. In the last 3 months they have gone through 3 vets and all the long time techs are gone. The newest vet Dr. Winston? Watson? Is not friendly and doesn’t seem to care about the animals. She was not warm or friendly to us or our pets. Time to find a new vet.

This place use to be 5 stars, but I give it 2 because of they have become outright greedy! They wanted 1300 dollars to clean my healthy dog’s teeth! I was so stunned that I just walked out of there.
This use to be a great vet with reasonable prices, but something really changed recently. They must be either on the verge of bankruptcy or have gotten really greedy. It’s sad because Dr Wessel, who has seen my dog over the years, seems to have changed as well, in order to suit new management practices.
They have become all about the money!

The care is pretty good and the staff is friendly but they nickel and dime you. My dog needed to be checked out for a neck wound and they bandaged her up and sent her home with antibiotics and pain meds. Everything was great except they needed me to bring her in every couple of days for a bandage change and to monitor her wound. Not an issue until I realized they weren’t really looking at the wound and they were charging me $ 40 a visit for something I could easily do at home for $ 5 in supplies. When I asked them if I could just do this at home and let them know of changes they acted like I was asking them if I could perform surgery on her myself. My dog gets really stressed every time we go and I’m capable enough to change an ace wrap with some ointment on a pad. Severely disappointed because it became clear they just want the money and have no regard for patient care or respect for owners. Their cost for services is steep and I wish I had known that the humane society offered most of the services my other puppy needed at a very reasonable cost from the start because I wouldn’t have returned with my older dog.

Very happy with the way my kitties’ appointments went! I adopted a new kitty who needed his initial appointment for vaccinations and to be neutered. They were upfront with the costs. I also took in my older kitty for a check up on his eye the same day. I was impressed with how kind and gentle they were with both of my cats– and me. I will be back when my kitties need help from a vet. Thank you!

I went in for a free exam from a mailer. I expected a quick once over and be done with it. INSTEAD, my appointment with Dr Chesi Wessel was a delight! She explained what could be going on with my dog, gave me options. I did not feel pressure at all. I felt listened to, understood and respected… not rushed. The appointment was on time. My dog was not nervous or afraid in this new environment… everyone had excellent rapport with her. I was very pleased.
My dog and I had a positive experience. Dr Wessel ‘caught’ or diagnosed or pointed out to me a condition no other vet in town had mentioned.
I certainly would recommend This clinic to others.

Horrible service, I was treated like a criminal there because there was a mistake in the microchip information that showed the dog stolen, even though I had brought my dog there since she was adopted for years. I would never go back and in fact I pulled all my records. They do not care for your animal and they could not see beyond the paperwork mistake to even treat her. Go to someone else who cares, these people don’t and are only interested in the money.

I recently took my kitty here to get spayed as part of the SNAP program. Vets who participate in SNAP charge a special price for spay/​neuter & basically donate some of their services to do this, and as a result, many vets have dropped out of the program.
Although a little concerned about some of the prior reviews, I was SUPER HAPPY with how my kitty & I were treated. The staff was kind, did not try to hard-​sell other services, and seemed competent. I even got a follow-​up call to make sure my kitty was doing OK the next day. In no way was I treated poorly being part of SNAP, and I think that is a great credit to the office.
I can’t speak as of yet to their other services, but so far this office has left a very favorable impression on me, and I plan to use them the next time I need to take one of my pets in for a vet check-​up.

I took both of my dogs in today and had an amazing experience. The office was very easy to find and was clean and the staff was very professional. There was plenty of parking and making an appointment was very easy. I LOVE this place and I will be doing all of my follow ups here with this vet. I highly recommend this place. The doctor was the nicest doctor I have ever met, he kept me informed and ran necessary test that had to be done. I paid less here then I did at my previous vet, so that was a MAJOR bonus !,

I am by no means a crazy over bearing dog owner.
I believe you should be able to trust your vet and accept their knowledge.
This place is horrible.
I have spent a lot of money here here in the last month, it all started out great and I was willing to spend the money to insure my puppy’s health and well being.
We went in for an initial exam and to get his first shots, $ 375 dollars later we left thinking everyone was friendly and nice and being completely naïve to anything involving veterinary care for my puppy.
We were back a few days later because I was worried about his mild diarrhea and a limp, more useless tests and $ 175 later test we left.
I look back on that trip now and realize I should not have gone back, they never asked about his diet or activity level or really anything at all, they spent less then 5 minutes with him and I.
Then he went in for x-​rays for his limp and spent the whole day there. 250 $ later we left with no information.
They gave me no advice on how to help with his hip, just that he will have to wait to grow and see what happens. Why waste your customers money and time on something that was totally pointless to being with?
Days later we were back and he was sick with Kennel cough he got while being there for his x-​rays, they first refused to admit he had kennel cough, then the lady let it slip when I called to ask how contagious his «respiratory infection» was so I knew how vigorously he needed to stay far away from other dogs and she said «he has kennel cough» even though the vet lied and said he didn’t.
They made me pay for his treatment because apparently kennel cough is so contagious even passing on a street a sick dog might have been is enough to contract it. (BULL$HIT!!)
They sold us EXPIRED medication!
Get my dog sick, tell me its my fault and then have me pay for EXPIRED medication.
They also charged me for a blood test but never said what they were testing or have given me any results.
Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else.
I wish I would have checked these reviews before going there and spending so much money that lead to even more money and time being wasted.
They may be friendly and nice but that doesn’t make up for bad veterinary care and selling expired medications.

I only went to this place with a friend. I was shocked they had pet meds on the counter (heart worm in form of treats) that I picked up and fed to my dog as a treat when I got home. Wasnt till much later I found out it was heart worm meds.
My friend has a cat with Urinary Crystals and is grossly over weight how ever I found none of my questions were answered (that is why my friend asked me to go with her) and the Vet actually rolled her eyes at me when I asked how much should the cat weigh and how do we go about helping him to lose the weight.
I am not a cat owner but I am a dog owner and would never have taken my dog here after the staff insulted the way other places buy in huge lot forms and sell expired meds. (1−800-pet-meds and other places.)
Only one of the team acted professional at all times while we were there.
One of the gals actually got sarcastic with me when I asked how do you know they sell outdated and bad meds and she said «I purchase the meds for all of our clinics and have been approched to purchase in large quanities for several of the discount factories»
To have to put down or make another place look bad sounds like a desprate attempt to make you look better when your failing.
The staff should probably go through customer service classes and realize that the true customer is the human paying for the service.
Way to go ABC maybe its time you took some classes on the fact a disappointed customer will tell 10 friends how rotten their visit was while a satisfied customer will only tell 3 how wonderful the visit was. (these are factual numbers)

Horrible experience!!! In short, took my 6 month old puppy there to get antibiotics for Kennel Cough. ABC Vets turned a simple visit into a $ 720 bill saying they needed to take x-​rays, give her an IV, and a bunch of other unneeded crap. I left in a hurry and went directy to another Vet and within 15 minutes recieved a 7 day dose of DOXYCYCLINE for $ 26 and within 4 hours of her first pill she was breathing normal, eating again, drinking without choking, and doing great!
DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH ABC VETS!!!

I got my dog neutered here because it was so cheap compared to most places. For the surgery, antibiotics, and the cone, it was around $ 100. That is CHEAP! Most other places charge around $ 200 – 300. So why the 3 stars? Because I love my dog. He is my baby! The staff did not seem very caring and nice compared to other veterinary hospitals. When going to a vet, I want to know that he’s in «good caring hands» but I didn’t get that feeling here. I got Boba’s (my chihuahua) rabies shot here too. The nurse took my dog to the back, while I was left waiting in the front room. I personally want to be there with my dog when he gets shots. I know how scared he gets in a stranger’s hands. (He’s only 3lbs!)
You should take your dog here if you don’t mind not being able to be with your dog during exams and shots. This is probably okay for bigger dogs, but my little 3lb chihuahua was terrified. I know some might read this review and think I’m silly for caring too much about the way my dog feels… but I LOVE my dog. I want to be there with him and hold him during shots. This is a cheap place to get your dog neutered but I honestly didn’t feel the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly.

This has been my vet since 2003 when I got my lab. The reason I like this vet compared to most is because you can usually get in if you call that day. I don’t like to plan ahead so this works out good for me. I dog just recently had surgery so ABC contracted an outside surgeon to come and perform the surgery. I just went in for the final check up today and my dog is in tip top shape so I am very happy with the results.
The only negative about this vet is that it seems that one hand doesn’t know what the other is doing sometimes. With all of the visits that I have had to make in the last 4 months, there have been 3 unnecessary visits due to miss scheduling. But I have heard some horror stories about vets in the past so if this is the worst thing to come out of this vet, I consider myself happy.

My initial experience with this place was great! I took my cat in for a
check-​up last summer and the vet was nice. I even recommended it to a friend.
tl;dr edit:
My dog was sick with giardia, they presented false evidence and pressured us into paying for extra services, then overdiagnosed him and tried to sell us several hundred dollars worth of medication for his «deathly» ailments. We took only the giardia meds and since that illness, he has been fine! That soured my initial good impression and I realised they were just money-​grubbers! SO UNETHICAL
