Ahi Sushi & Grill

Trying out something new. .we got chicken terraki dinner, crunchy roll. .yum!
And mine!

Expected much, much better. We eat out at sushi restaurants ALL THE TIME. First time we’d been here. It was a dud.
Con:
* Soy Sauce was diluted
* Rice was dry and not fresh
* Fish was very thinly sliced (do not get a lot for your money)
* Rolls had lots of creamy sauce (too creamy)
Pro:
* Service was nice.

Try the Salmon Tataki, Battera Fantasy and the Lady Roll. They are all deeeelicous and reasonably priced.

Prices were good, and the sake special did the job, but the American-​Japanese-​Chinese was lacking. The presentation of the japengo roll was cool though.

The place is very accommodating! Placed an order for a plain udon and there was some confusion and they made one with meat in it (I’m a vegetarian). I called and they quickly made me a plain one and were very nice about it! Also the food is delicious!

Fire of Love was bomb. Service was not slow. Good vibes. They even have a Chinese menu xD

I ordered the ahi boat and it is alright. Service is good! Recommend! If u check in u can get the green tea ice cream as well!

Some of THE best San Diego Chinese food around. If you loved the now closed China Inn in PB, this is the next best thing!

I don’t usually care to rate cheap sushi places because I don’t have any expectations for taste.
However, one of my friends, who is known to have a strong stomach (statistically proven), got sick from eating here.
Menu is not too creative and the sushi tasted cheaper than its cost (which is pretty bad).
I’ve been here a long time ago and I remember it being okay. Maybe their quality has been degrading.
Warning: Tuna x Tuna: This does not taste like tuna.

This place is confused on if it’s a japanese restaurant or your local chinese food joint.
I was craving japanese and ordered the katsu chicken bowl and a california roll. Both easy items that you’d think can’t be messed up.
The katsu bowl was horrible. Instead of japanese short grain rice, it was long grain chinese rice. Good for a chinese food takeout or fried rice but not for a japanese entrée. The chicken katsu wasn’t even katsu. The chicken was cooked nicely. It was just fried chicken breast with little flavor. The sauce drizzled on top was not even katsu sauce and was a sweet teriyaki sauce.
My husband ordered the a variety of sushi nigiri which he said was good. My california roll was decent.
So if you’re in the mood for japanese, stick to the sushi ONLY. I’d be skeptical to order any other entrees unless it was from the chinese side of the menu.

Great little lunch place near my work. I can reliably go here for really good lunch specials for sushi or bento! Checking in gets you 10% off your order!
Garlic chicken lunch — one of my favorites. The garlic sauce is great and there are generous portions of chicken and vegetables. The lunch comes with miso soup, salad, potsticker and cream cheese wonton. All of it excellent for less than $ 10.
Nigiri Mix — 9 pieces for $ 10. Really good. You get a large variety of fish and a generous portion of food. If there is anything to criticize, I think that they put too much rice for their nigiri but it does make me feel full.
Best Choice Combo — this reminds me of what made Sushi Deli famous. This plate is a lot of food but all really good. You get 4pcs Rainbow, 4pcs Crunchy, 4pcs Albacore Special, 4pcs Happy Roll. All of them excellent. I highly recommend it.
Sashimi Lunch — It is okay. I didn’t expect the sashimi quality here to be amazing. I think the strength in this place are the rolls.
This is a really good lunch spot for an often overlooked area. The service is consistent and having everything be 10% off is awesome.

Stumbled upon this place that did not even know existed until of course Unilocaling it. Came here with my fiancé and we got the party tray D, it was for a great price and waitress very attentive. Will be coming back avain because they also have Chinese food!

This place is actually a lot better than I thought it would be. Let me preface by saying that I normally don’t trust places that serve both sushi and Chinese food, and I abhor eating at most fusion restaurants (FYI, this is not a fusion restaurant; just a place that serves both Japanese and Chinese cuisine). I don’t like mixing entrees from different cultures; most of the time the food ends up being too greasy or just so Americanized. Plus the 50 percent off banner they always have hanging made me a little wary, but…
We came here on a whim after reviewing some of the Unilocal reviews on here. We only ordered sushi; our food came rather quickly (it’s not busy here)…and surprisingly, the sushi was fairly decent! Some of the rolls were really good! And because we ordered 4 rolls from the happy hour menu our bill was just under $ 32, which is not bad at all. Since then we have come to this place one other time and our food has never been bad. And we’ve never gotten sick, and that’s always a good thing, haha! Just letting you know, we only have ordered sushi here; I can’t comment on the other food that they serve.
If you want to get more bang for your buck, try the rolls on the 50 percent off menu. Everything else seems to be a little steep on the regular menu. Try the snow white roll! We get this every time and it’s always a good one.

Came for lunch on a Friday with co-​workers craving some rolls. There was plenty of seating available just after noon and we were seated immediately. Service was attentive, no complaints!
We ordered 3 specialty rolls on the main menu (not sushi menu) and one roll from the half off sushi menu. They were all presented well and rather large! We loved them all aside from the spicy salmon within one, seemed «fishy» but overall a good experience. We left full (3 girls) and checking in on Unilocal got us 10% off! Ended up right around $ 50 with tip.
Overall, probably not my first choice, but reasonable and decent. Would return if in the area.

This place has sushi and Chinese food.
My inaugural visit last night was a quick dinner with my mom.
I got a 180ml bottle of Hakutsuru Draft for $ 6, which was a perfect size for me, and I like the smoothness of this cold sake.
For sushi I ordered two rolls:
The Ichiban — a winner that I look forward to enjoying again in the future
The Paradise — it was fine, but it didn’t have enough exciting flavors for me
My mom, who is not a sushi eater, opted to order from the Chinese side of the menu. She went with the sweet and sour shrimp. The first time it came out she let the server know that the pieces were too hard; the server quickly and cheerfully offered to take it back and whip her up a new one which was less well done. My mom really liked the one they prepared the second time.
The prices are good for the quality and size of the orders; my Mom’s chicken at $ 9.50 was enough for her to enjoy for dinner and still have enough to take home for a meal the next day.

I love buffets. You may ask why? Buffets are gross sess pools of children’s germs. But the thing I love about buffets is OPTIONS. I love sharing food, I love sampling. And Ahi Sushi is one place where I can have these options all in the same experience. They’re a sushi place, they serve chinese food, they have pad thai. I can sit down and make my own little buffet arount Southeastern Asia, and I love that.
They have great deals, half off a lot of their cut sushi rolls all day. Lunch specials on sushi combos and chinese food.
I’ve only done take out orders, but the food is fast, hot and fresh when you get it. The only slightly odd thing is, that this IS a sushi restaurant. So if you order chinese food on the lunch special, you are getting a Japanese version with white rice, a side salad with ginger dressing and miso soup. I love this about Ahi Sushi, but it’s not what some might expect.

Ahi Sushi is a mid-​range neighborhood sushi joint that makes decent sushi. The menu is very expansive and would definitely be a great restaurant to take a non-​sushi eater. I saw yakitori, udon, katsu/​teriyaki bowls, and quite a few bentos on the menu.
The garlic edamame was okay. It had a sauce on it that was sort of garlicky, but flavorful, none-​the-​less. My friend and I split the Ahi Boat that was literally a boat with a Dragon Roll, the Fire of Love roll, 6 pieces of nigiri (salmon, ahi, and yellowtail), and a crab sunomono salad. It actually had a cucumber that the server lit on fire at our table and continued to burn throughout our dinner. Most sushi places I go to don’t have that as an option, but that type of stuff is fun every now and then.
Overall the rolls were good, the sushi was fresh, and I was satisfied with my meal. I would go back if I was in the area and craving sushi.

My husband and I came here for an early dinner on a Friday. We were seated right away and the service was swift. We ordered the Las Vegas and Spider rolls, which were 50% off, the sashimi deluxe platter, miso soup, egg drop soup, and garlic edamame.
The sashimi was sliced thick and tasted fresh. My least favorite was the garlic edamame simply because I thought the flavored overwhelmed the edamame and it was soggy.
I liked that there were other soups than just miso. The egg drop soup hit the spot.
This is a family friendly place that can get a bit loud. If you’re planning a date, come here after you’re already comfortable with each other.
There are TVs, which is either a good or bad thing depending on your viewpoint.
Overall a great neighborhood joint with a lot of variety and creative choices in their specialty rolls.

I like Ahi, but it’s really not a four star sushi joint. It could be, but lacks some of the features that their competition have implemented years ago. The staff always deserves high marks for their service and attention! But their sushi — just average. Really lacks the imagination. Sad to say that because I have had good meals before in the past — it’s the quality of the ingredients which seem a little off. The spicy tuna tastes like it came from a mix — really no bite to it or personal touch to it. The sashimi had that chemical aftertaste to it. Unlike the other sushi joints, when you order tea, it comes out in a tea bag (really? Folks still do that?!!). The miso was a little too salty for me. I had a far better sushi experience with Nozumi’s down the road. But, perhaps, this brings me one step closer to my sushi sensi badge…
