I was really excited when i knew they are going to start a private badminton court and that too near work. SD doesn’t have a lot of dedicated badminton facilities.
However i have had nothing other than bad experiences here. i have been buying badminton supplies from owner Mike for a long time and had good experience with him. airclub is managed by his wife Sunny. Be it playing there with drop in, or buying a racquet or re-​stringing my racquet, its been a pain. She has opinions and has to be done that way. She is outright rude and she makes sure you get it. I really dont want to use the ‘R’ word, but with what i am hearing from my friends and badminton group. seems like thats what it is. [Correction 1/​25/​2016] Looks like she is rude to pretty much every one ! and from the timing of their courts, looks like they are not interested in keeping courts open and getting more ppl to play.
Unfortunately this is the only place with a decent collection of racquets and some discounts within SD limits. Another option would be to get racquests from seaside rackets in Encinitas managed by Mike, if you dont want to upset your mood :). Don’t get me started on the outrageous membership fees: P

Played here once, and had a birthday here once! Sunny was very accommodating, and understood I was a beginner level player. Came here with my gf who offered to teach me the basics; we were able to play on a single court uninterrupted on a weekday night, which was good. Normally you’d worry that other people are impatiently waiting for a court, so if you’re a beginner, just call or arrange ahead of time, and you can likely work something out if the owner knows that it will be busy with regular players, or if it will be relatively slow so you can get some newbie practice in.
Only $ 8 to play and there’s a $ 2 rental fee for shoes (mandatory, to protect the surfaces).
Totally recommend if you want to try out a new sport and in a non-​intimidating environment!

I took a lesson with Sunny… It was my first badminton experience. It was a very in depth 2 hour lesson for less then $ 60…Can’t beat that. She goes over more then just basics of the game… how to condition yourself etc to play your best… I’m going to continue taking lessons and hopefully play with other members as well.

Its a not friendly badminton club. Owners Sunny is not so friendly and is rude. Besides that the membership fee is too high, 195 $/​3 months. I am not going there again!
Lot of my friends have the same opinion.

Came down to hang out with a close friend from high school whom I played badminton with. I love how the owner has a strong passion for badminton which clearly shows on how well she handles the customers, and the upkeep of the courts. I haven’t played in a very long time so it was quite a nostalgic feeling swinging a badminton racket again. Would come back more often if I didn’t live too far. Sunny, apologize ahead of times if I misspelled your name, thanks for taking care of me. Will definitely come back in the future.
*FYI — Entrance to the club is actually a badminton shop called — Seaside Rackets…

I’ve played badminton since high school and since then, I’ve only played irregularly. The reason for this is because of how difficult it was to get court playtime. To illustrate, going to Balboa’s free badminton play is like roulette. Is it going to be crowded that day? Will I get to sign up for more than an hour? How long will I have to wait in order to get a court?
No other badminton gym in San Diego has the option for you to call ahead for a court reservation. Call ahead to reserve your court, play for 90 minutes straight, then if you STILL feel like you haven’t gotten enough, you can usually get in more games until you drop.
However, if you are like me and don’t want to wait for 1 – 2 hours in queue at Balboa or one of the other public gyms and only play for 30 mins, then you might want to consider joining the airclub.
