Wow this place is amazing. Ordered the belly flop and gangnam style banh mi with pork belly fries. Let me tell you, the pork belly is cut thick as fudge! And cooked to a nice crisp. Coupled with fries and sauce and a sunny side up egg. Their cilantro ranch is pretty righteous.
As for the banh mi, cmon man! It is SO grrreat! Bread is crispy toasty on the outside and soft on the inside. Pickled carrots and daikon radish with cilantro were fresh. Noticed they added cucumber also. Very generous with the meat unlike shady lee’s sandwich.
This place will do well, hot and new still

I had the Grass Hog and it was very flavorful with a nice subtle taste of lemongrass just the way I like it… came with fresh daily pickled veggies and the bread with on point!
My girlfriend is a vegetarian and had the Mr. Tofu and OMG, it was even more flavor than mine!
I usually have Vietnamese coffee, but my gf wanted to try the Nutella coffee and if you love Nutella, this is a must-​try.
I highly recommend this place!

Hands down the best Banh Mi I’ve ever had. I ate the Grass Hog and my boyfriend ate the Pork Belly sandwich. While I could barely taste the lemon grass on my pork, it didn’t bother me in the least. The pork was cooked to perfection. The bread was soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The daikon and carrots were much more thinly sliced than I have had, yet loved none the less. My boyfriend loved the pork belly sandwich he had with the only caveat being the fact that some of the piece were way too hard to eat and he had to keep spitting them out. Even with that in mind, he adored the sandwich. Then there was the fries… My God the fries! I love fried potatoes of all kinds, but these were bar none the absolute best fries I have ever had. Seasoning was spot on. As was texture; crisp on the outside while nice and soft on the inside, much like the bread. Topping off all this deliciousness was the dipping sauces offered. Cilantro Ranch was perfect on the fries. They had a bottle labeled Ketchup, but this was no ordinary Ketchup. It was way less sweet that the bottled stuff and had some chunkiness to it. Much more tomato flavor as well.
As far as the service goes that was excellent as well. The only bad thing I can say about the place was the parking situation. Be ready to fight for a spot or walk a ways to get there. Small price to pay for this quality of food!
Can’t wait to go back again and try their other sandwiches.

I got the GrassHog Banh Mi ($ 6) and the Bulgogi Fries ($ 8) to split and they were so good! It was packed with meat and flavor. And the fries were perfectly cooked. Thin and crispy but still could hold up against the Bulgogi and fried egg on top!
TIP: you have to try to house made ketchup and cilantro lime sauce with everything!
Service was also great and the staff kept checking in. The owner even was walking around to see how everyone was doing! The extra attention was appreciated! :)
Con: wish they were open later! Bulgogi fries would definitely replace carne asada fries for my late night snacking!

My roommate and I enjoy our lunch date here. We ordered pork belly baguette, chicken wings, fries, and drinks. Chicken wings and fries are def a must have!!! Panan coconut drink is special and delicious.

This place has their shit down! I’ve eaten my fair share (and your share, and your mom’s share) of banh mi but these guys hit it out of the park. There are three key issues to address with any good bahn mi.
1. Bread — Its gotta be fresh, not soft on the outside and doughy but it needs to have a slight crunch and be soft in the middle. My sandwich had the perfect combination of crunch, a soft center and it was warm. Clearly made fresh and I’m betting it was in the last 8 hours.
2. Meat — The flavors have to be on point and the amount of meat should be significant. I don’t want to go looking for meat under the veggies and I certainly didn’t have to. Lots of meat and great, I mean GREAT flavor with the bulgogi sandwich.
3. Veggies — They need to be crisp, fresh and the amount needs to be such that you can bite into the sandwich without having a blow out. These guys got it right. Perfect ratio.
Seriously, as I write this I want to go there now but it’s 9:00pm and they are closed. It’s a great spot. Go there, find out for yourself and then bring me a sandwich! Please?

My Order: GrassHogger Banh Mi & Pandan Coconut Milk Tea
I’ve had better banh mi elsewhere. The sandwich was tasty but it just didn’t meet my expectations. Meat was okay and veggies were good. I’ve had better barbecued meat at hole-​in-​the-​wall places for cheaper than the one in this sandwich. However, I did enjoy the shrimp chips and pandan coconut milk tea.
Service was super. Décor is cute. Parking is horrible during the weekend.

What a great new restaurant in the area and to San Diego! This reminds me of a Vietnamese sandwich shop meets modern day vibe meets San Diego/​California cuisine. Their bulgogi fries remind me of what you would get at a taco shop-​carne asada fries.
My boyfriend and I decided to stop by on a Sunday around 11:30am. We came at the right time. They open daily at 11am, but there were already people inside eating away. The place is decorated really nicely, everything very modern and clean looking which works perfectly with their traditional yet unique options. We sort of ordered. A LOT! We had to try it all since we had been talking about this place since it first opened a few months back. Here is what we got:
Bulgogi Fries (fried egg on the side)
Regular seasoned fries
Tofu Banh Mi with no onion cream sauce
Green apple green tea and peach green tea
Nutella and cookie butter coffees
No, we did not consume all of this. Not even half of it!
My boyfriend LOVED the bulgogi fries. He ordered that as his meal. I don’t eat meat, but I wanted fries, so I ordered the side of fries which is seriously a massive serving. It looks like I didn’t even put a dent in them at the end. I’m usually not a green apple fan, but I preferred the green apple to my usual peach option. Also, you can get a large for $ 1 more.
The sandwich was huge, too! I only had half of it. It comes with shrimp chips at the beginning which are extremely addicting with a little sriracha sauce. The tofu was plentiful and marinated really well. The bun/​baguette was soft and delicious.
We ordered both of the coffees because we had to try them, where else are you going to get those flavors? I was sure I wouldn’t like the nutella as much, but I actually enjoyed it just slightly more. They both are amazing! Note: they do not have non-​dairy milk at this time.
Parking: convenient lot with plenty of spaces. There are other businesses around, so I’m not sure how it gets later, but when we went it was easy and open.
Service: Great, helpful staff that knew the in’s and outs of the menu. Also offered popular items to those who weren’t sure what to get, which is always helpful.
Variety: Lots of variety for meat-​lovers to vegetarians. Also, they serve beer, coffee, tea, jarito’s and soda. Lots to choose from!
Timing: 11:30am was just right. When we left around 12:30 there was a good sized line, but they move pretty fast in there.
Note: next time, 1 sandwich and 1 side of fries to share. Or don’t, and indulge in it all :)

Baguette Bros is still in it’s soft opening stage which I think means they have yet to advertise of their ‘grand opening’. Plus I don’t think the restaurant name is displayed anywhere on the building. They are located in the same plaza as China Max, Jeong Won, and Spicy City. Parking can be cramped during peak lunch and dinner hours.
The location is bright and spacious. They offer craft beers (bottled). You order and pay at cashier. The food is brought out to you once ready.
We ordered:
Fried Wings (6) $ 6 — FISH SAUCE
— The six wings were deep fried and then coated with a sweet fish sauce glaze. They sprinkle deep fried garlic and fresh scallions on top of the wings. There was a pool of sauce on the bottom of the wings so these are ‘wetter’ wings. The wings were nicely crispy but perhaps a bit dry.
Fried Wings — HONEY SRIRACHA
— The wings were meaty but also a bit dry in this order. The sriracha had a small spicy kick to it and you could taste a bit of the honey sweetness layered into these wings. I still preferred the fish sauce wings over these but friend said no way.
GrassHogger (BBQ Lemongrass Pork) $ 6
— Each of their French banh mi sandwiches come with fresh greens and pickled vegetables. I asked for extra cilantro and jalapenos. I was impressed by the amount of veggies and pickled carrots/​daikon they put in my banh mi. Look at the beautiful grilled lemongrass pork in this sandwich. The pork tasted tender, well seasoned, and plentiful. This was a HEARTY banh mi as the bread is thick. The toasted french bread was out of this world good. The crust was perfectly crunchy but the interior was pillow-​y soft. The bread worked wonderfully with the tender pork and the fresh greens stuffed inside this banh mi. It was one of the best banh mi’s I’ve had thus far.
Belly Flop (Roasted Pork Belly) $ 8
— This, too, was a nice banh mi but you must love fatty pork belly. The roasted pork belly, I think, is sliced and then seared to order so there’s a crispiness to the belly inside this banh mi. Friend isn’t all that keen to pig fat so this sandwich wasn’t really his cup of tea even though he mostly enjoyed it.
We joked that the banh mi’s here tasted hip, young, and cool — kinda like the staff that manned Baguette Bros that day. You bus your own tray after you are done eating. Service was cheerful and helpful. They still aren’t sure when they’ll have their Grand Opening but I definitely will be back to try out more of their banh mi’s very soon.

Started by three brothers that I openly dub «the triplets», I can confidently say that I’m a «phan» of their Vietnamese sandwiches (banh mi).
My partner and I ordered the following:
— Grasshopper banh mi that is generously filled with lemongrass BBQ pork loin and glazed in fish sauce. The glaze is light, so definitely ask for more glazing if you’re feeling fishy. Wakka wakka
— Gangnam Style banh mi stuffed with bulgogi ribeye with kimchi aioli and grilled onions. The meat is very juicy and nicely marinated (not too sweet), and definitely something I would order again and again.
Per the usual banh mi standards, each butter and toasted baguette is filled with picked carrots and daikon (Asian relish), cilantro, and fresh jalapeño slices. I prefer my baguette more crunchy, but my partner thoroughly enjoyed his. Best believe you won’t be leaving with the roof of your mouth chafed from a dry baguette, which I’ve unfortunately experienced at plenty of other banh mi places. Each sandwich is served with a fresh batch of shrimp chips, which brings me back to my childhood. Everything here is made (aka grilled) to order, so don’t expect a bunch of cold cut meats laying out, slapped together in 2 minutes.
What sets this place apart of others? From a simple and well-​thought out menu, to friendly service and generous portions, this is the kind of place I’d take my friends to or study at (free wi-​fi, anyone?!) on any given day. This place is a hidden gem next to China Max and hopefully they’ll expand their hours on the weekend. I’d also like to see taro chips or a durian shake as additional menu items in the future, but a girl can dream, right? Be still, my late-​night Vietnamese banh mi-​eating heart!

3.5 stars, but room to round up due to good customer service. Walked in not knowing what to order, and the staff were patient and helpful in offering suggestions to their most popular items (bulgogi fries, gangnam banh mi). The man friend and I settled on the fish sauce wings and the bulgogi fries which collectively came out to about $ 15 and we left with full times and leftover fries for days. I wanted to try their boba because they have a Pandan coconut milk tea! But I’m glad I didn’t end up getting it because the items we ordered were extremely sweet in it of itself.
+ Fish sauce wings: Very pungent, come topped with dried garlic shavings, but lost it’s crunchy texture from all of the fish sauce. I was expecting it to have been marinated in a fish sauce concoction instead so it could keep it’s crispy texture. It would also help relieving how pungent the flavor was.
+ Bulgogi fries: To be honest, we were kind of thrown off because we thought it would be a Vietnamese joint, but a lot of their options (Thai chicken, bulgogi banh mi, bulgogi fries) are far from the traditional, but it might be what others are into. Anyway, the bulgogi fries are plenty – it could feed at least 2 people if not up to 5! It comes with a lot of fries and a measurable amount of meat, and a dash of melted cheese. It’s kind of a struggle to eat the meat as they are given in whole chunks, so it would be helpful if they cut it into pieces so that we wouldn’t have to bring the meat to the side to cut down into pieces ourselves. It comes topped with an overeasy egg.
They do have condiments like a cilantro sauce which is good, and a house ketchup which tastes like a salsa. This place oozes fusion which is more modern and I could see how it could become a hit. Unfortunately it is in one of the worst Asian parking lots (run far away, park far far away on the street), right next to China Max.
Overall, fan of the dishes we got to try but again a little too sweet and this place threw me off from your average Vietnamese foods.

Came here on a Sunday and ordered the fish sauce fried wings, Grasshogger banh mi, and the Gangnam Style banh mi. Each sandwich also came with a side of shrimp chips.
The Grashogger is filled with lemongrass pork with a light fish sauce glaze, and the Gangam style consists of bulgolgi ribeye, sauteed onions, and is topped with a kimchi aoli sauce. Overall, the sandwiches were decent but nothing to write home about. There are definitely some better banh mi sandwich places in San Diego.
While the baguette was fresh with just the right amount of chewiness and crispiness, the bulgolgi was definitely lacking in flavor, even with the aoli sauce. The Grasshogger was a little better in terms of flavor, but also not very impressive and maybe even a little dry. The fish sauce wings were good (piping hot and fresh), and tasted more like white pepper wings than fish sauce wings. While I personally like the taste of white pepper, steer clear of the fish sauce wings if you don’t. And if you don’t know what white pepper tastes like, you’ll definitely know after taking a bite of these wings.
Decent, but I probably won’t come back again given other options here in San Diego.

If there was a restaurant where the Fung Bros. decided the menu (with a shout out to Richie Le for the Viet influence), and Wongfu took care of the style of the joint, then you would get Baguette Bros.
The décor isn’t too «in your face» with being hip and cool with the wall mounts and chalkboard menus feeling comfortable rather than forced. There is communal sitting and high table seating that encourages actually talking to your group or date here rather than staying on your phone… go figure. The music in the background is top hits, but is not played so loud that you would have trouble having a conversation.
When I first stepped in, I was going to try the #1 Broguette as it seemed a bit more traditional and a good gauge of the menu’s quality. However, since I hinted it was my first time, the cashier made a few suggestions, telling me the most popular sandwiches are the #4 Belly Flop which sells out quick and the #6 Rise and Shine. The same cashier also let me know that the pork belly JUST came out, so I decided to order the Belly Flop. The pork belly in my sandwich had the right amount of crunchiness without being too tough and enough fatty texture without feeling like I was drinking a batch of oil. My taro milk tea which I ordered on the side was the perfect amount of slight sweetness to offset the salty and meaty taste of my banh mi. It did not go overboard with sugar as other nearby boba places whose taro milk teas are too sweet even at «75% less sugar» designations.
For those who long for the K’s Sandwich days before the fire (my regards to the family), this does night fit the niche of the hole in the wall and old-​school banh mi shops. Still, if anything Baguette Bros. manages to pay homage to the banh mi tradition while adding minor tweaks to the benefit of the upcoming Asian-​American culture. As a side-​note, this place also offers both coffee and variety of local and national beers, not seen at many other Asian places on Convoy!

Bulgogi Fries, served with a fried egg on top — Good! I do wish the bulgogi was cut into smaller pieces rather than 4 big chunks for a better ratio of meat to fries. After a few bites, we only had fries left. Bulgogi is tasty & tender. I enjoyed the sauce it comes with but they only put a scant amount & I recommend asking for extra.
Gangnam Style Banh Mi Sandwich = Bulgogi, onions, & Kimchi Miso Aioli, served with a side of Shrimp Chips — The sandwich was great. Bread is thick & soft on the inside. Bulgogi is again tasty & tender. The sauce was amazing, I had to ask for extra.
Fish Sauce Chicken Wings (6) — The best item to order here! Yummy! So flavorful, meat is juicy, & pieces are big.
Pandan Coconut Milk Tea — No boba served here, only lychee for extra $. Pretty good.
Customer service was good but the server forgot to put lychee in my drink & when I told her she seemed irritated… I mean if I am going to pay extra for lychee then I should get lychee…

Glad to see a modernized Vietnamese sandwich shop in town! That’s something you don’t find everyday. They play upbeat music and provide patrons with free WIFI. Features stools and benches, which are great for groups. Some regular table seating available as well. The spot is definitely attracting the younger crowd, reminiscent of a local bubble tea spot.
Features interesting assortment of menu items: Grasshogger, Bangkok Chicken, Belly Flop, & Gangnam style are among some of the sandwiches you will find.
I ordered their signature Broguette. Original cold assorted ham with pâté and roasted tenderloin. I got my order «to go» and decided to add some of my nifty Sriracha Mayo and black pepper to an otherwise flavorless landscape. In other words, the bread was good, the meat was quality and the pâté was on point, but the sandwich lacked the flavor you usually find in really good Vietnamese marinated meat. Nonetheless, their sandwiches deserve my second chance for other menu items and I will return to explore my options. I will keep you all posted on my next findings.
They also have a variety or awesome coffee, beer, teas! That’s right, there’s alcohol. Nothing like beer with your banh mi sandwich, right?

They’ve been open less than 3 weeks now and I’ve been wanting to check this place out after hearing that they make Asian fusion style banh mi’s! The owners are friends of friends and I met one of them last night. He was very nice and asked for feedback.
This eatery is located next to China Max with no signage (just a banner), so it might be a little hard to find at night. This place has a modern, rustic design. When you walk in, you’ll see plenty of inspirational quotes hanging on the right side of the wall and cute little Christmas trees on each table. Besides banh mi on their chalkboard menu, they also have wings, fries with toppings, specialty coffee, boba tea, and craft beer!
We wanted to try a lot of things so we ordered the bulgolgi fries, honey sriracha wings, fish sauce wings, grassHogger banh mi, and belly flop banh mi. Everything is fresh and made to order, but luckily it didn’t take long to get our food since my stomach was growling. Our drinks came out first– I ordered the pandan coconut milk tea with lychee jelly and finished it in a minute LOL. The drink was a little too sweet and there was way too much ice, but still pretty good.
When our food was ready, I tried the wings first. Both varieties were pretty good– I liked the honey sriracha more since it had more flavor than the fish sauce kind. The bulgolgi fries looked very tasty and the meat was really good! Too bad the fries were not as crispy as I would like though. These appetizer usually come with a fried egg, but they ran out of eggs that night. As for the banh mi, it was just okay. The bread was alright and the meats inside each of the banh mi’s was bland. Each sandwich also comes with a side of shrimp chips, which were so yummy and crunchy!
For the prices that we paid, I was disappointed in how little meat there was in the sandwiches. This place has a lot of potential and I’m sure they will listen to their customers and improve on their menu items. I was told that they will be adding salads and maybe more things! Even though I’m not a coffee drinker, the Vietnamese coffee made with Nutella or cookie butter seems decadent and worth a try.

Huge parking lot, used to be slow, but now it’s crazy competition to get a parking spot here cause there’s so many good restaurants in this plaza now.

Bulgogi Fries $ 8
I took my order to go and by the time I got back to work to eat it, the fries were half soggy and half hard. They definitely need to work on better, crispier fries. There was a good portion of meat but the meat was partially burnt on the outsides and was dry. It only tastes good because of the spicy mayo sauce.
Belly Flop Banh Mi $ 8
I was excited because the pork belly slices were actually fat chunks instead of thin slices and were very crispy. I just didn’t like the baguette bread. The bread was very chunky and chewy. I prefer thinner and crispier bread. Only other thing I enjoyed was the side of shrimp chips.
Overall, everything on their menu sounds and looks good but food was okay.

This place may just have better wings, than they do Banh Mi’s, not to say the bahn mi’s are not good, because they are quite tasty. I stopped in for lunch and order the Lemon Pepper Wings for $ 7 and the Gangnam Style or Bulgogi Ribeye Banh Mi with a unique kimchi miso aioli, tender thinly sliced rib eye steak served on a french baguette with a side of crunchy shrimp chips for $ 8.
I really enjoyed the the lemon pepper wings. I was especially fond of the light batter and the well balance amount of lemon seasoning and pepper. The breading was crunchy and very good flavor. The wings had a good amount meat and was tender. I would of liked to have seen and tasted juicier meat however in the wings. In the end, they were very good lemon peppers wings. The wings were an easy four stars.
The Gangnam Style Banh Mi, although good, was a mix bag. The rib eye steak inside was tasty and had a nice char, I did think it was a little over done. Then again, I like me beef medium rare. Anyways, it was well seasoned and tender for the most part. I liked the kimichi miso sauce but it was very mild in flavor. I think I was expected more with those ingredients, but it was probably for the best, given I would rather have the beef shine, in this particular sandwich.
The French baguette was a little problematic. The ends of the roll were a little on the dry side or perhaps stale. The closer I found myself towards the center, the softer and moister the bread was. They need to find a ways to keep the bread more consistent throughout the sandwich. The banh mi earned three stars in my book.
The girls at the counter were very nice. The food came out a little inconsistently however. For example, I received my food clearly after customers who ordered after me. I was not upset about it, but just bringing it to attention. For now, I am averaging the the 3 and 4 stars to a 3.5, but at the upper end for the nice service at the ordering counter.
Oh yes, those shrimp chips were good but needed more seasoning.

I love me some Banh Mi! Stumbled across this new business via Unilocal and decided to give Baguette Brothers a try.
The «Grasshogger» Banh Mi (lemongrass pork loin with fish sauce) was just okay for me. I expected traditional charbroiled BBQ pork flavor but I didn’t get much of the lemongrass. The pork loin was tender but the flavors were lacking for me.
The «Bangkok Chicken» Banh Mi (Thai satay chicken with peanut sauce) was, on the other hand, much more flavorful than the Grasshogger. And, although I don’t normally order chicken banh mi, my palate was thoroughly impressed with this sammie!
The Fish Sauce Chicken Wings were good but the flavor seemed to rest only on the outer part of the wing instead of flavors that are infused into the wing.
The Bahn Mi sandwiches came with a few large pieces of shrimp chips. Just the right texture to complement the sammies.
I thought the prices were generally good but, if you’re comparing it to other Vietnamese shops, their Banh Mi is almost double the price. Still, I would prefer Baguette Brothers over a combo meal at a fast food chain! Worth a try!
