Due to complications from a badly-​healed fracture (from fifty-​years ago), I was losing strength in my hand and experiencing numbness in my fingers. Two years ago, in Boston, I saw a hand specialist for the same problem: he did not seem confident that the problem could be solved, and so nothing was done. Now, two years later and with a rapidly worsening condition, it was my fortune to be examined by Dr. Brooke Ballard. She carefully reviewed the problem; requested specialized testing by a neurologist to assess the damage to the nerves– and then performed surgery to remove accumulated scar tissue around the arm nerves. One month after surgery, my hand is already fully recovered and I have regained complete mobility in my fingers and the numbness is gone.
Aside from superb competence and careful and caring approach, Dr. Ballard also stands out as a genuinely caring old-​fashioned doctor: arranging for physiotherapy, follow-​up checks, etc.
