I’ve been here quite a bit and I usually love this place but when I came here on Sunday it changed my mind about the place. They have a café and restaurant section, I believe it’s the same price for the menu but for the restaurant side you get waiter service. I’ve tried both before. I don’t know why but it seemed hard to get service on Sunday, as in you have to wave both hands for attention. When I asked for refill on soda I went up to the bar and the guy working behind the counter just looked at me so I asked the girl next to him and she asked someone else to do it… uhhhh does it really take 3 people to refill a soda? Slow service. It wasn’t like that before. What happened?

I love this place for breakfast, lunch, or just to sneak in a get a desert. The service is great. Food is outstanding. It is not soaked in grease to enhance flavor. It is just quality ingredients prepared well to satisfy. Give it a try. You will love it as I do.

Their food is so good! Whenever I’m craving a sandwich, this is my go to place. I recommend the parisian salad, the apples and candied pecans always satisfies me. Also, you can’t go wrong with the chicken pesto sandwich! When I’m feeling like both, which is mosy of the time, I get the combo selection. Also, if I’m in the mood for dessert, their pastry selection is off the charts. I always recommend the strawberry or mixed fruit tart, or for parties my family always gets the 3 layer chocolate mousse cake. Definitely recommend this place, 10⁄10

Good coffee and the French onion soup was decent. The workers were very polite and friendly. But they don’t have wifi which is kind of crazy for a café where people like to come drink coffee and do some work. Disappointing.

The service is so inconsistent, depending on a server. Some servers are absolutely lost. He put butter in my hands instead of putting them on the table. They got the order wrong. They never checked back to refill the coffee and overall they didn’t act friendly this last time we visited the bakery! I think the management should work on the service and its consistency!

Had a really bad experience at this location today. Came in for a quick lunch. Was craving soup bc it was rainy and cold outside. Ordered french onion soup, the server mentioned that they also had a vegetable soup that day, but politely declined and I said I would like to stick to french onion. 5 min later, they brought out vegetable soup. I went up to the counter and asked for the french onion soup that I had ordered. He rolled his eyes and took the soup back. 5 min thereafter, they brought me a bowl of cheese and bread and cold broth. It was definitely not french onion soup and it was not edible.

I came to this place to get one thing an almond croissant on a sat morning. And they were sold out. I should have just skipped it seeing their crappy reviews.

This is a fantastic little café in my backyard. Their are baguettes are to die for. The prices are slightly higher than most sandwich places but it tastes so much better. My favorite is the chicken pesto sandwich on a baguette. I also enjoyed the desserts and a wide variety of tarts that they keep.

My boyfriend loves this place… so I go. But I must say, the only thing that is worth ordering are pastries and coffee. Great tarts and chocolate croissants. But, here goes… Bypass the breakfast! We ordered the bacon & egg crepes and the eggs Benedict(apparently only offered on weekends.) Crepes were so dry, like a dry tortilla, with no flavor that I honestly thought there was a mistake. And the potatoes … no seasoning. The most bland meal I’ve had in a long time. The Benedict? The hollandaise was so watery and lemony, again, I thought it might be a mistake… ie bad batch. No seasoning at all. Maybe it was a chef in training? I hope so, for their sake. Service was with a smile and very accommodating. So no complaints there. All in all, Meh. I wouldn’t go there again for breakfast. Getting pastries or a special dessert for a special occasion… Definitely on my list. Sorry Champagne Bakery… need to step up your game on the breakfasts.

Located in the Del Mar Heights plaza on the second floor, Champagne Bakery Bistro sits up high next to the escalator! We passed by it two times, once to see what they had, second time to actually get something. The first time was exciting, looking at dessert, cookies, crème brûlée. It looked promising. But between the first and second time, my stomach rumbled. I was hungry… and I knew I had to get something that was not dessert… Had myself a french roll. Was dry, not really too much of a fan. It was $ 1.35 and included was butter. Meh for me. Had a tomato cheese roll as well(I forget the name per se), but that one was more flavorful. It tasted really cheesy but there was only 1 – 2 tomatoes on there [I shared with a friend] and I didn’t feel it was worth the price that it was for it. Dessert, however, was a better option. My friend had the Princess Roll and if you love chocolate, they do have flavors in there. After you finish, you either leave your plates and silverware on the table for them to take or you hand them/wave down an employee there and they’ll take it for you. tl;dr: don’t get the bread, get fed with desserts!

I went for a quick brunch to Champagne bakery. They seated us in 25 min which was ok. The décor is cute(old parisian) but the service is terrible. The server was lost and messed up our orders. I ordered the meditteranean veggie sandwich which hardly had any veggies. He forgot my friends coffee. The eggs itself were cooked well.(But they ran out of egg whites which was a blah :|) We asked to switch our potatoes for salad(low carb option) and we got a potato salad instead. :|. The check took forever and even longer to get it back. Overall a mediocre experience. Would may be try again for desserts.

This place is great because of its versatility. You can stop in for a great latte or espresso in a hurry, or sit back and relax in the bistro. While their breakfast food is great, it doesn’t stack up to snooz which is right around the corner. However, it makes up for it in great quick service and other lunch options like sandwiches and soups. Come here if you want a great del mar breakfast/lunch experience with little to no wait.

A chain restaurant — I can’t complain. I personally would rather come here for dessert than visit the little bakery downstairs. What wins me over about this place is the pastries — not necessarily the food. I’ve been here in the morning before work, and that’s definitely the best time to get a full selection of baked goods. Coming later in the day it’s completely picked over(expected) and a lot less to choose from. I was surprised to see they had a jesuite — and I had to try it! With a hot cup of coffee, it hit the spot. Very flaky and full of custard, it doesn’t disappoint. I have to say the hot chocolate was nothing special though — made with steamed milk and a chocolate sauce, it was just standard. If I were to order it again, I would prefer nonfat milk because they use whole by default. Lots of seating available outside, and there always seem to be spots inside. Good place to grab coffee with a friend and catch up!

I’ve been coming here for years for the desserts but today finally decided to have a meal. Now I know why the line at Snooze is so long all the time. I came early because they too often fill up, although I don’t know why. They have indoor dining and a nice outdoor patio which is where I sat. There were only two tables inside occupied and maybe four tables outside so I was a bit surprised at how long it took for my server to even come over and get a drink order. When she finally came over she was pleasant and introduced herself and offered to tell me about the specials. I knew what I wanted and pretty much anytime I’m at a new place for breakfast I order the same thing. I like to make comparisons. I was actually surprised at how limited the menu is but I ordered my usual of egg white scramble with spinach, mushrooms and feta cheese. I typically prefer sourdough toast but went with their baguette. The egg dish comes with their signature red potatoes. And to drink I had iced tea. Okay, while the iced tea was fresh brewed, it had a terrible taste to it. I didn’t have to wait long before my breakfast arrived and right away there was a problem. They were clearly not egg whites. I have no idea how hard it can be to get an order like this right. The server wasn’t taking an order for a table of 10. I was by myself so how hard is that really? She wasn’t swamped with several other tables. Or is it the cooks who just can’t follow an order or just don’t care. I asked the server if they could make it with veggies and cheese and she told me no problem. The eggs did come with the spinach and mushrooms but no cheese. The whole meal came with one small piece of a baguette. Panera Bread gives a large piece of a baguette when ordering a sandwich or soup. I should have asked for a croissant. And the red potatoes were just that. They were red potatoes cut into quarters and cooked. That’s it. No seasoning other than pepper. Very plain tasting. Onto the bakery part of this restaurant. As I mentioned, I’ve been coming here for a long time… about 20 years. They have been nice to go to for an after dinner dessert or late at night craving for something sweet but lately they are no longer the«go-to» place. For starters, they close at 9pm. Now during the week, I can sort of understand this although I would think during the summer they would extend those hours. They are located right next to movie theater and four fairly nice restaurants that stay open much later. Many times after a movie or dinner I would like to get something from here but they are already closed. And although they close at 9pm, really they start breaking the place down around 8pm so if you come in at 8:45, good luck getting anything. If nothing else, I would think on Friday/Saturday they could stay open easily until 10pm and just for desserts, not the restaurant. But the biggest disappointment lately is they seem to never have or run out of extremely quickly… crème brûlée. WTF?!? You’re a so-called french bakery and you don’t have crème brûlée? They used to have it and they made it quite good. But lately every time I’ve come they’ve been out. One day I came and they were out at 2pm. Hey, if it’s that popular how about making more? Well, they did resolve the problem… they just don’t even have it anymore. It started to rain while I was outdoor eating my breakfast and my server never even came by to assist me with my food inside or out of the rain. I literally had to hunt her down to pay for my meal. There was no point in finishing a meal that was now wet and wasn’t even what I had ordered. Your iced tea might be brewed, but it’s terrible. I highly recommend getting your tea from a local place in National City, Café Moto. I’ve had their tea in other restaurants and it is the best. For a full plate of eggs, I think a couple pieces of baguette is warranted not just a single piece. Overall, a huge disappointment both with the lack of desserts(crème brûlée is a staple for this type of place) and the food. I can’t imagine coming back here when there are better choices within walking distance.

I live a few minutes away(walking distance) and absolutely love french onion soup. They are one of the few places around that boasts serving it, so I stopped by. Parking here is busy, but you will find a spot if you look… it just might take a few minutes in the huge lot. I ordered it to go, and was surprised at the cost for a cup(about 12 oz — estimated), was $ 6. I was surprised by this, but figured I was going to get a hefty cup and maybe a roll, so I let it go. When the bag came out to go it felt empty. I checked and the cup wasn’t even full. I asked them to fill it up more(for that cost it should at least be full!) Overall I won’t be back. The small amount of soup that I received was outstanding but the service and the cost just don’t make it worth it.

I met a new client for lunch at Champagne Bakery and actually sat in the restaurant for the first time(as opposed to ordering at the counter and eating outside). The restaurant is nice and the service was great. I believe it’s the same menu on either side of the restaurant. This time I decided to try the Chicken Pesto sandwich, which comes with swiss, tomato, onions(which I removed) and pesto mayo on a baguette. The sandwich was delicious! The only thing that I would change would be baguette as although it was tasty, the roughness tore the roof of my mouth. Perhaps I’ll see if they can use a softer bread next time. I was very impressed with the french fries. Even though I didn’t have any ranch to dip them in, they were incredible and actually didn’t need any dipping sauce.

HAVEYOUEVERGONETO A RESTAURANTANDGOTSTUCKWITH A SERVERTHATHASABSOLUTELYNOBUSINESSBEING A SERVERANDSHOULDHAVECHOSEN A DIFFERENTVOCATIONBECAUSETHEYARECOMPLETELYINCOMPETENT? HAVEYOUEVERGONETO A RESTAURANTANDWAITEDFOREVERFORYOURFOODORDERANDTHENHAVETHEWRONGFOODBROUGHTTOYOURTABLE? If so, then the Champagne Bakery in Del Mar Heights is exactly like that. My girlfriend and I reluctantly went to Champagne Bakery, because Snooze was slammed with customers and there was a 30 minute wait for a table. In retrospect, we should have waited the 30 minutes and ate breakfast at Snooze! After we were seated at Champagne Bakery, it took the server over 10 minutes to welcome us and take our food order. Over the next 20 minutes, four other tables full of people were seated after we were and they all received their food orders while we were still sitting there waiting … and waiting … and waiting for our food order. At the 30 minute mark, I asked the hostess to speak with the Manager. I told the Manager what had happened and she promised to «resolve the matter» immediately. If «resolving the matter» means going into the kitchen and grabbing the first food order that is available and bringing it to our table, then she«resolved the matter». Unfortunately, the food that the Manager brought to our table was NOT what we ordered. That was all I could stand and I couldn’t stand any more. We walked out of the restaurant at that point and have no plans of ever returning. I hope that the young man that was masquerading as a server ended up being terminated and hopefully the customers that ordered the food items that were incorrectly brought to our table actually received what they ordered at some point. I apologize that I cannot provide you with a proper review of whether or not the food is good or bad at this restaurant. However, in my opinion, if THESERVICESUCKS this bad, the quality and taste of the food doesn’t matter, because THEENTIREDININGEXPERIENCEISCOMPLETELYUNACCEPTABLE. I wish that there was a way to give this restaurant no stars as a review, rather than one star.

Champagne is a great little French bistro in the area! The bakery in front is by far the best feature of the restaurant. I had the croissant egg sandwich one morning and thought it was pretty good, a little dry, but good. It came with these diced potatoes that tasted good but they are not French by far, haha! French people don’t have potatoes for breakfast. I do wish that the plate came with some fruit, but otherwise it definitely satisfied my breakfast craving! The little seating area outside was my favorite part, that was very Parisian indeed. Our server was also very friendly, and highly attentive to our needs. I will not hesitate to come again for lunch or dinner and explore all their French options. And my visit will not be complete without a pastry! It’s not always very easy to find a French restaurant or bakery, so I highly recommend Champagne!

Came here after surfing Del Mar in the early morning. I didn’t know of any other place to grab a bite after a tiring surf session, but i remember seeing Champagne Bakery when i went to Cinepolis so i decided to head here. They do have sit down table service, but also an order at the counter and eat in or to go option. Since i was still in my surf shorts i ordered at the counter and ate outside. I got the Breakfast Croissant sandwich, it came with roasted red potatoes(between $ 8-$ 9). The food came out surprisingly quick and was nice and hot. Hot crispy croissant, crispy bacon, eggs and cheese; a yummy breakfast sandwich with some roasted potatoes. The sandwich was delicious, light and delicate, and the potatoes were crispy and delicious, i just wish there were more potatoes. The portion was on the smaller side but I enjoyed my breakfast, so it was good but a tad overpriced. I guess its to be expected for a Del Mar Mall. Food 4 Stars, Value 3 Stars over all 3.5 stars
