Over the last year I’ve been focused on taking better care of myself. I’ve been running, I’m eating better, and I’m down 30 pounds. But even still I’d been rather self-conscious about trying Charity Workouts on a Sunday morning. Stupid stuff, really. I won’t be as fit as everyone there. I won’t know anyone. I won’t know the exercises. But after months of nagging, my friend finally convinced me it was time to go down to Balboa Park on a Sunday morning and give it a shot. I’m glad I did. The trainer Brian is great. He’s amazingly friendly, patient, and a great teacher. He walks everyone through a bit of cardio to start the day, and rolls from one exercise to the next over the course of the next hour. He keeps things light and friendly, and encourages camaraderie among the entire group. I never once felt like I was holding the group up nor out of place. And the people that participate are a great bunch. It’s donation driven. It’s a great workout on a Sunday morning allowing you to enjoy the great San Diego weather. It’s great people. It’s fun. What more can you ask for? The one little note I would make is to keep an eye on the website. The location/time may change depending on availability.

Brian is a great coach. The workout was perfect, and I think I exercised every muscle in my body, including a few I didn’t know I had. The best part about the work out is the all the money goes to a San Diego based nonprofit, Outdoor Outreach. Keep up the good work Brian!

This is a great workout for a Saturday morning. All proceeds benefit local charities — including Outdoor Outreach, a non-profit where I volunteer. Brian started this as a way to help the community by promoting a healthy lifestyle and more community involvement. Usually he gets a group of 20 to 30 — and there are always new faces. Really fun vibe. Very highly recommended — especially for those that want a fun way to start the weekend.
