Established in San Diego, California Susan and Pierre instruct ballroom dancing to all: from beginners to competitors. They teach International and American style but also all the club dances like Salsa, ArgentineTango, Merengue, Swing etc. All of it!

Full disclosure I have not taken lessons with Pierre yet, but consulted with him for advice on a wedding first dance. He was super helpful and patient and responds reliably via email. He was also very understanding when a sudden change of plans made it so that we wouldn’t be taking our lessons with him anymore. Cheek2Cheek is a classy establishment and I would recommend this studio for anyone looking to take ballroom dance lessons!

Pierre is an amazing, patient dance instructor. He was very professional about dancing with us, yet laughed at joked with us too. I could not have asked for a thing more for my first wedding dance! I still can’t believe how much we learned in 6 lessons and know we will knock the socks off our guests with our two types of dancing (foxtrot and swing). We are already talking about going back to him to learn more types of dances! We met his wife and she was sweet, watching the two of them dance was incredible. Their prices are great too. We started just 6 weeks before our wedding and did weekly lessons. We also practiced every other night between our lessons, for 15 to 30 min depending on how we were doing with the new moves.

I called cheek2cheek a month before our wedding and asked about dance lessons. I was told the timing was perfect and they said Pierre would be our instructor. He ended up being perfect for us. Pierre does not choreograph a dance but rather teaches you to dance. He taught us a few turns, a dip and some other moves and a finale. We had a good time taking lessons with him (3 lessons) and when it came time for our dance night at our wedding we felt comfortable and relaxed. We have already recommended him to friends.

We really loved Dancing Cheek2Cheek — the beautiful studio, wonderful instructor and great music!
Our goal was to dance our first dance like the folks on Dancing with the Stars. Pierre was a wonderful, patient instructor and refused to laugh even at our first few attempts at the box step. By the end of our sessions, we had a choreographed, smooth dance routine that was exactly what we wanted.
Pierre worked in different options and was always encouraging and positive.
I would highly recommend Pierre and Dancing Cheek2Cheek to anyone looking to polish their dancing skills or to start from the ground and work your way up.

It is true, the old Cheek 2 Cheek location is no more. However, lessons are now held in a new location off of Convoy Street!
For my part, I am taking salsa lessons there and LOVE it! Through Cheek2Cheek I am doing a 6 week progressive beginner Salsa class. My first attempt at salsa was a total effin’ epic failure. This is NOT my experience at Cheek 2 Cheek. The class is lead by Susan (her husband Pierre teaches tango and other ballroom dances), and she is fantastic at breaking down steps and moves. Taking her class makes salsa make sense to me. After a couple of lessons, I felt confident enough to join a couple of friends at the local Salsa Festival and held my own on the dance floor. I was no salsa king, but I able to apply what I learned in class. Bottom line: class times was 100% relevant!
Susan keeps the class fun and helps each of as needed. She will dance with the men and the women, helping each of as tweak that day’s particular lesson. One thing that is pretty cool as well, is around week 5 or 6 she leads the class in an outing in actual salsa club. Another great about the class that I appreciated was, she teaches salsa etiquette for both men and women. At the end of the day salsa is a social dance.
The progressive class I am taking builds in complexity each week. Some of the moves are intricate (for my salsa infancy skills), but Susan is patient and breaks the all down. At no point are we rushed — something I could not say for my previous instructor!
$ 70 nets a 6-​week progressive class. If you join a related Meetup group, there may sometimes be a discount. Either way, you really can’t go wrong!
I will be joining the Intermediate class as soon as it starts!
