Are you a hipster that likes to be crumpled between more hipsters that get soy lattes while the baristas prepare your coffee with a pissed-off face and they play horrible, pretentious music? Then Dark Horse is your place.

If you’re unfamiliar with the North Park area, it may be a bit confusing to get here via GPS, but don’t give up! This place is worth the search. I’ve only been to this location, so I can’t use the other locations as a comparison point. It’s a small coffee shop that you can spot by their horse sign hanging outside. With only three tables inside their shop, I wouldn’t recommend coming here to sit down and catch up with a friend. The place is too small for that and is usually crowded(for a good reason). As you walk in, there will be Dark Horse merchandise ranging from coffee mugs to shirts and of course coffee whole beans. I usually end up getting their cold brew and try not to steer away. Not because I doubt their other drinks are good, but because I just love their cold brew so much! Prices are standard, same as any other local coffee shop(about $ 3 – 4 a cup), however I’d much rather spend it here for the quality they provide. They also have lactose-free milk alternatives(score!). My stomach appreciates it. I hear great things about their cold brew on nitro, but have yet to try it. Every time I’ve been here their tanks are all depleted! Tough luck for me, but I hope to try it the next time I’m here.

Smallest coffee shop I have ever seen. They deliver on all ends. From the time you are treated to being knowledgeable about their products and the execution of your order. The only negative? So far away.

Excellent tiny coffee roasters in North Park. Very vegan friendly with a selection of the best barista-style almond milks. Great frothiness and flavor in their drinks. I tried an almond milk cappuccino there(after dumping out my oversteamed drink from Streetcar Merchants, see my other review), and it was fantastic. They use the Pacifica Barista Almond Milk which is perfect for foaming up, and they also have Califia Farms Barista Blend as well. PLUS, all their pastries and donuts are vegan. The donuts were a little dry but very tasty. Drinks were served up fast and with a smile. The interior isn’t really a hangout spot(it’s tiiiiiny), but you can get in and get out quickly and get on with exploring the cool little spots around North Park. This will probably be my go-to coffee shop anytime I’m down from LA visiting San Diego.

Hands down my favorite coffee shop. I am a little new to the coffee scene and have been trying different shops from SD, LA all the way up to SF and always come back to Dark Horse(specifically in North Park) and call it home. The staff is amazing and so are the drinks — they give good recommendations too. We always get the nitro and I usually get the Mocha Eclipse with almond milk and extra chocolate. The chocolate comes from local Eclipse chocolate which I am looking forward to checking out. Highly recommend supporting this shop!

Submitting second review on the other page for this spot. Why do people who work in customer service act like they’re not working in customer service. Take your order. Give change. Immediately go back to talking with fellow coworker about something not relating to work. No good bye, where are you from, see you next time.

Amazing coffee, friendly staff, would be five stars of they had better pastry selection, but hey nobody’s perfect. Best cup of cappuccino in town and their t shirts and other branded gear is superdopefresh.

Friendly staff, great coffee and right in the middle of North Park. Always, always go for the pour over or maybe the cold brew on nitro.

Amazing coffee walking distance from my home. Yes!!! The space it’s self is small but the coffee is excellent. I had a almond milk lattee and it was one of the best lattee’s I’ve had in awhile. The staff were friendly and efficient. This place is a perfect addition to the neighborhood!

This place is the bomb! Yes I did just say«the bomb» :) Im not a coffee drinker so I can only speak for there incredible spicy hot chocolate, it has the perfect balance of creaminess, sweetness and a powerful kick at the end. The staff are awesome and the atmosphere is chill. Welcome to North Park xx

Let me just begin by saying I love Dark Horse Coffee, so this review for their new location may be a little(or a lot) biased. I had the champ. It’s a new type of drink that is not available at their original location which provides mostly pour-overs for you genuine or otherwise hipster coffee enthusiasts. I believe the champ has milk, cinnamon and honey in it, or you can just say it was full of «goodness». The place is pretty small. They rent out a small portion of Waypoint Public. It mostly just 3 tables and a bunch of coffee stuff, but the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The barrister even tried for a new shape on her coffee after I ohhh and awed her tulip foam art. A + is that Waypoint public is totally cool with you bringing in your coffee while enjoying their food. They serve their roast there but if you would like to venture off into more complex drinks the option is available.
