History

Established in 2008.

Dirty Dogs was born from the Btesh family’s love of animals and their youngest son, Joel’s quest for healthy pet food. In 2008, they opened their first location in the Torrey Hills neighborhood of Carmel Valley and local dog owners were quick to support the cage-​free washing facility and its healthy pet food offerings. Dirty Dogs in Cardiff was opened in 2011 to provide a beach-​side cleaning facility and expand healthy pet services to more of North County.

Dirty Dogs in Carmel Mountain Ranch is a result of all of our learnings and all of our customer’s suggestions to bring you a premium dog washing facility that is quick and convenient and as-​always, cage-​free. Manager

Ashley is a San Diego native who has been in the Pet Care Industry for more than 4 years. She shares her home with 3 cats; Arlo, Toby and Simon as well as a bearded dragon named Daenerys. When she isn’t working at Dirty Dogs, Ashley spends her free time mastering the art of vegetarian cuisine, lounging at the beach and learning everything there is to know about dog and cat nutrition.

Previously, Ashley was the assistant manager at our Torrey Hills location and her in-​depth knowledge of raw feeding and cat nutrition made her a true asset to our organization. Thanks to Ashley, Dirty Dogs has expanded their cat food and supplement offerings. Additionally, Ashley is one of the friendliest people on the planet and she will take care of your every need.

I had a great first time experience here doing the self serve dog wash! Jeremy was awesome, from the time I walked in the door to when I was done with washing my husky! I’ve never been to one of these dog wash places so I didn’t know what to expect. Jeremy welcomed me and explained to me how everything works. He also carried my 70+lb husky in the tub since she was scared and didn’t want to go on the ramp. He asked if my any allergies or skin issues so he can he me the right shampoo. He gave me tips and what I like about this place is how unbelievably easy it was. I was not stressed at all! He told me I can take my time especially since I have a husky and will need to do some grooming. I felt that this place really cares for your pets and for their customers! I’ll definitely be coming back here regularly for my dog’s bath! Thanks Dirty Dogs and Jeremy!

I go here about every other week with my Old English Sheepdog. The do it yourself wash is convenient with all the towels and soap. I’m normally there for almost 2 hours getting my dog dry and fluffy again. No one has ever complained about the time I take, compared with most customers who are in and out in a quarter of the time.
The groomers often come by with products or suggestions to get my dog looking her best.
Kim is my dogs groomer. She’s great and cuts the right amount for the season without making my dog look shaved.

Love this place. I have two dachshunds one is a wire hair and needs full grooming. I am able to have him groomed while I self bathe my smooth hair. It is really terrific. They provide everything you need even ear cleaning stuff. It is so much more comfortable to use their set up thank my home bathtub. Saves my back! Everyone is great their. Happy friendly and sociable.

I called in the morning after having a hard time with the people at petco grooming and they were able to fit Nova in within minutes.
This was novas first pro groom and she was so scared I thought they wouldn’t be able to get her done but they were so patient and understanding. She looks so beautiful and happy now.
I will most definitely be back I’m so glad we went. Deffinetly try them out.

I called to inquire about getting my dog bathed the same day. Super flexible first and foremost. They asked for a current Rabies vaccination (definitely made me feel safe). I scheduled an appointment for 4pm, was definitely running behind schedule, arrived almost 20 minutes late :-(I was greeted like there was no issues. Anne was super attentive to my Blossom’s needs with her skin issues. Blossom was in and out in probably 30 minutes. Which was great! They even gave her a cute bandana to wear as well. She was happy and excited!!! The place was in immaculate condition, clean, smelled appeasing, friendly staff, happy dogs! Definitely coming back again!

Brought my dog Lulu here after my dads passing and me inheriting her. They did such s wonderful job I just wish it wasn’t so expensive. For nails cut, trims fur around toes and face and a bath blow dry was $ 90. Maybe it’s normal fee, but I won’t be bringing her back but maybe 2 – 3 times a year.

So disappointed. I thought I had found a great new place for my dog to be groomed. She’s been once and it was a great experience. But I stopped in today to buy food and schedule her next appointment. The moment I walked in the store I noticed there was a dog on the grooming table in the room with the noose on and no person in the room to attend to the dog. I watched the entire time I was in the store and no one entered the groom room or was with the dog for close to 5 min (I left). This is the number 1 practice in grooming facilities that will turn away clients. Safety first and always.
Update: They have shown great concern for the impression that was given during my visit above. My service has always been quality on every visit.

The do it yourself tubs were nice and big. I was able to put two dogs in at once. Staff checked with with me twice to make sure I had the shampoo I wanted and everything was going well.
They supplied the towels, shampoo, brushes, and an ear cleaning solution to use with cotton balls.
Minus 1 star because $ 15 seemed like a lot to wash my own dog. I don’t know the going rate for do it yourself dog washes. I had two dogs so it was $ 30. Seemed akinda high…
Minus a second star because of the blow dryer and brushes. The brushes hadn’t been cleaned from the last dog and were flimsy and hard to use. The blow dryer only had one setting, (REALLY HIGH AND LOUD.) The dryer was too much for both of my dogs. They were scared of the noise and the forceful air pressure.
I liked the concept but think I’ll try a different place next time.

I have an Australian Cattle Dog. Diesel. He isn’t a fan of water and it’s a struggle for my husband or I to cut his nails. Dirty dogs is amazing. They are very professional. Diesel every time looks and smells great! Melony is the best. She takes care of diesel. I know whenever I set an appointment up with Dirty dogs diesel is in great hands!!! I started diesel off a little late in the grooming game at 8 months old but he’s now over a year and getting better. I highly recommend dirty dogs and their amazing team!!!

The staff is really nice and you can tell that they are truly dog lovers.
I cleaned out my garage the other day and brought over a ton of old blankets and two crates. They happily took it and gave it to a dog rescue that they work with. I am happy to support a local Mom and Pop shop that gives back to the community.

Thank you Dirty dog for completely disregarding my request to ONLY wash and dry my dog, for making a decision without my consent to clean my dogs teeth «because his breath was really bad» and as a result he got snippy with you. I didn’t know that his breath would impair your ability to only give him a bath and dry him.
There was a reason and clearly explained to you as to why I only wanted a basic bath and dry service. I recently rescued him from the pound and this was his first time getting a bath and coming from the pound a bath was really needed but I shared my concerns and warned you that this was my first time I took him to get a bath and I didn’t know how he was going to react.
Strangely in the first 10 minutes I was there and he was getting bathed he was fine in fact he even had a smile on his face. I leave and within 10 minutes I get a call from you to tell me that he’s getting very snippy and you mentioned the «complimentary» teeth cleaning in which I asked you at what point he got snippy and you said when you were cleaning his teeth which again, I didn’t ask for.
Congratulations for admiting your mistake on taking it upon yourself to complete a task that wasn’t requested, for verbally admitting your mistake and for charging me full price for a service that was not fully completed.
You’ve earned yourself ONE whopping star for washing him and you have chipped yourself of 4 stars for 1) doing something I didn’t ask for, 2) charging me full price for an unfinished service, 3) for returning me a wet dog and lastly 4) for losing a customer that will not be referring you to friends and family any longer. Congratulations!

Kim and Vanessa are pretty much the best groomers on the planet and quite possibly the universe. I’ve had four grooming appointments this year for my golden — two a piece with both groomers — and all four times they’ve been grand slam out-​of-​the-​park home runs. Jenny comes back expertly cleaned and smelling fresh and I know she’s in the best of hands when being cared for by these two. Jenny is my third golden and these gals have skills and talents that are exemplary of the craft. They hone in on details and hold themselves to the highest of standards and likewise you see their own expectations passed along in their work in what has always been a spectacular job. Couldn’t be happier. Jenny likes their work too, even if she does accidentally headbutt them occasionally.

1st time client:
Booking the appointment was interesting to say the least. A young man answered, I briefly told him that I am a new owner of a yorkie puppy and asked for the next availability for full wash/​groom/​cut etc. He puts me on hold for a few moments, returns and says there’s an appointment available in the next 20mins. I booked it and he closes the conversation. Not long after we hang up I receive a call from the same young man @DirtyDogs requesting further information such as my dogs name, Tonka + my name and email address.
Upon checking in, my appointment was booked in a completely other name, which is fine, but odd. Continuing on, the ladies at the front desk proceed to explain to me that the services I requested couldn’t be done because Tonka is too young (5 months) and suggested a puppy intro like a sanitary trim of paws, bum — not including the body for $ 30 +/​-​
All in the interest of not to traumatize the new pup with full services (whereas full doggie salon package I wanted with a full body cut/​wash etc was $ 50+/-)
Now, I understand and very much appreciate the care taken not to overwhelm puppies, however for these prices, my whole intention was to fully groom Tonka and not have to take him to his vet (which I assume may be more traumatic for him) for sanitary trims anymore. Knowing him, he is very well behaved, far from spastic and great with my 9 yr old. I certainly wouldn’t bring him in to be groom if wasn’t ready for it. Furthermore, I did say he was a puppy when booking the services over the phone, why was this not told to me then?!
After some time, Kim was willing to take on the task of fully grooming Tonka. She was honest mentioned that puppies tend to loose their patience and move quite a bit, she’ll do her best, yet expect realistic results. I agreed, as I wasn’t looking for perfection, just clean.
Kim was great! Gentle, soothing and Tonka wasn’t overly nervous. All 4 stars for Kim. I would have made it 5 stars, but the booking and checking in process was confusing and frustrating at times.

Took my King Charles there today and was SO happy I did.
I wish I remember the lady’s name who did his haircut so I could give a proper review, but it’s fled my mind :(never the less, I did think the place was a bit pricey but I had a 15% off coupon that made it a tiny bit more affordable. But for the price I don’t feel duped one bit, my pup HATES crates or cages so I was pleasantly surprised to find out that its cage free grooming. Not only was I pleased that she executed exactly what I wanted for his haircut, but it was done efficiently!!! His appointment was scheduled at 11 and I got the call he was done at 12:30…I’ve taken him to places where it takes 3 – 4 hours!
I highly recommend this place, everyone there is so friendly and you can tell they genuinely care about animals, which is important to me.
I’ve also used their «wash yourself» stations they have and loved the experience and convenience of those too!

I’ve been shopping at Dirty Dogs for several years now and the staff at any location has always been friendly, helpful, and kind. This location is no exception. The location is clean, easy to navigate and fairly easy to get to. The parking lot is large, but sometimes it can be difficult to get close parking.
I’ve only used the washing facilities once, but the staff was available to answer questions, offer guidance, and I even learned a few new tricks for washing my yorkie.
My primary reason for going is for the dog food. They have a good variety of high quality foods that all score VERY well on the dog food indexes. I’ve been to a few events with different vendors where the information was freely given and I was able to find the best food for my pup. And more importantly, I know I can trust the quality of any item I can find the store.

This place is really great for washing and grooming your own dog. They have everything you need and are very helpful .
If you want to leave your dog for grooming the will do it for you. Best part, the place doesn’t have a wet dog odor! I highly recommend this place for do it yourself doggy grooming!

So the 2 stars is an average of 2 experiences.
The first time we took our German Shepherd here, they earned 5 stars.
Our rambunctious puppy (11 mos and 80 lbs of love) had never been professionally groomed, so I took him in on a Tues for his first ever professional bath. (Previously I’d climb in the tub and bathe him myself.)
The female groomer (can’t remember her name) was very nice, calm and took GREAT care of our fur-​baby. When he didn’t like the blow dry, she called and let us know that he’d be a little more damp, but didn’t want to stress him out. She recommended bringing him back a month later to get familiar with grooming. We were impressed with how beautifully clean he was.
So we made another appointment, but unfortunately didn’t get the same type of service the second time around. I made sure to tell the booker that our dog DID NOT LIKE the blowdryer. They told me they would towel dry him instead…
However, this time, the male groomer chose to ignore all the notes and when our dog got upset with the dryer, called my hubby as «it was best to pick him up early» and claimed he tried to bite them. Uh, no… our dog probably did try to bite the air from the blow dryer… because he doesn’t like it! Read the notes.
Anyway, a pity that they earned my business, but lost it as the second groomer had such a non-​caring attitude. No, I will not be patronizing again.

Best 15 dollars I have spent in the last year, period. Super friendly staff (megan was really nice and helpful), hypo-​allergenic shampoo, clean tubs at great heights, mega powered dryer hoses. If this place served drinks it would be our new hangout.
I have washed out doodle in the shower, and those days are over. The tubs at dirty dogs are so clean and at the perfect height, even for a tall gal like me.
Great selection of food, toys, treats, full grooming area… And close enough to grab a breakfast burrito at my favorite taco shop next door.
